If any of you can remember, this guy's review of Halo 3 was also controversial because it also deviated stangely from the general consensus. He also felt compelled to issue a separate defense of his review of Halo 3. That he has been forced to do it again for ME suggests that he may have credibility issues.
Sony is not the IPTV service provider. It is the Korean cable operator that provides the service, determines the content, sets and collects the monthly fees. It is misleading to imply that Sony may provide the service in other areas.
Whether you receive IPTV service on either the 360 or PS3 depends on whether your local internet provider offers IPTV. All Sony or MS do is provide support for the integration of the service with their consoles. In MS's case, it provides a whole IP...
The scores don't just vary between sites and publications. Within each site or magazine scores also vary between reviewers. I don't know how many reviews Jennifer Tsao has done, but we don't know what the score would have been if Dan Hsu or somebody else over there did the review. No doubt game publishers will try to manipulate the system by steering a review copy towards the editor with a history of generous scores.
As far as I'm concerned, the best reviewer is the one that ag...
At this point it's looking more and more as if Square is deliberately slowing down progress on the white engine to see how the console market shakes out. I'm not sure if Infinite Undiscovery and/or Last Remnant will be coming out before FFXIII, but if they do, you can bet that Square Enix will be using those games to gauge potential consumer response to their brand of JRPGs on the 360. Square will also be looking at how Lost Odysey and various Atlus releases perform on the 360 worldwide. If ...
What a disaster. From the Kotaku post and comments it appears that the PS3 version got the short end of the stick. Perhaps these were the visual glitches that IGN noted in its review?
If this franchise can survive its calamitous first outing I can see the seeds of a magnificent sequel. I hope enough people pick this game up despite the suck factor so that the concept gets the chance it deserves.
Heat, as you know, is generated by resistance to the electric current flowing through the conductive elements in the chips. With smaller chips you reduce the source of heat in two ways: 1) there is less current flowing through and therefore less heat-generating resistance, and 2) there is less conductive material to heat up.
According to the article, they were able to measure and confirm that the new smaller chips do indeed run at lower voltages. So to the extent that the RROD ...
I think the real reason UBI doesn't find the cartoon funny anymore is because the game sucks arse and this may actually be what it would take to make it sell.
Even if Sony hadn't paid them squat, Epic was smart to delay the 360 version. Between Halo 3, Orange Box, Bioshock and COD4, there's already a significant amount of sales cannibalization going on, and that's just among new shooters. New 360 buyers will also have bins full of discounted and pre-owned copies of older shooters like RB6 Vegas, PDZ, Crackdown, etc. The vast majority of gamers will only have so much money for games this season, and there are simply too many things out for the 360 a...
This is a great game that deserves better sales than it has had so far. It's not as if PS3 owners have a lot of other good games to choose. I'm afraid the the same thing could happen to Uncharted. If Uncharted follows the same sales trajectory as Ratchet, then why should MS worry about the likes of LBP or KZ2? Even if they turn out great it's no guarantee that they'll make much bank. So far releasing great games on the PS3 has been like casting pearls before swine.
Well, we assume that having been out longer, 360 has many more titles, new and old, than PS3, giving 360 gamers more opportunity and occasion to spend for their console than PS3 owners. Either way, defending the PS3's abysmal attach rate is a tough argument for a PS3 fanatic to win, because he has to admit that the 360 has either a superior game library or superior owners. He cannot logically deny both and must accept one or the other.
Actually, the biggest portion (90+%)of the PS3 weekly sales lead in the EU comes from Spain and Italy. These are small markets that cannot sustain the PS3's worldwide sales momentum. The 360 still outsells the PS3 in the crucial markets of the UK, Germany and Oceana, while the PS3 weekly sakes lead in France, Scandinavia and the rest of the EU is statistically insignificant. So the only major market where MS is getting stomped is Japan. Based on this, I expect MS' worldwide lead over Sony to ...
That would be a big improvement for the PS3, which was outsold more than 5 to 1 in September and more than 3 to 1 in October. But I have a deep distrust of the Sim-exchange forecasting system, because it's based on human desires or wants. While desires and wants are infinite, purchasing power isn't. I think the system will have a natural tendency to inflate predictions, and the higher the price of a product goes, the higher the error rate will be. On the other hand, the cheaper (and therefore...
The idea is not to compare your TV image with the Gametrailers image because that says nothing useful. If you want to make a meaningful point, compare the PS3 and 360 version on the same TV. Read kordy6 below - he gets it.
Edit: Just to make my point clearer let me spell it out again. When viewed by itself, the PS3 version will almost always look splendid, because AC is a good looking game regardless of platform. But whether it looks washed out compared to the 360 version is s...
It doesn't work that way Sheng. In every experiment, try to cancel out or quantify all variables. You have to make the comparison on the same TV screen. Don't compare the computer image with the TV image because that may just reflect that your TV is better or worse than your computer monitor.
EDIT: Also, with respect to your point about "close enough only fanboys will argue the differences" I can say the same thing about component vs HDMI image quality. I personally ...
It's not exactly fair to compare total 360 software sales directly to the PS3's, because the 360 has been around much longer and has more games. The fairer and more informative comparison would be on a per title basis of multi-platform games. If the PS3 installed base is currently slightly less than half of the 360's, then PS3 sales of each multi-platform game should also maintain the same proportion of just slightly less than half of the 360 version.
Even on this basis, it's n...
To those of you above claiming that the PS3 version looks nothing like that on your TV, congratulations on revealing yourselves to be total asshats. That is not the relevant comparison. We don't care whether the PS3 version looks better on this or that TV. What we are concerned with here is how it compares to the 360 version on the same TV, all other things being equal.
The normal human eye cannot discern such subtle differences in shading and image quality without a direct basis of c...
Is the PS3 version's frame rate really worse or better than the 360's? This is not an issue of editorial opinion but a question of fact. It can be verified by a neutral judge. And as soon as we find out which publication screwed up, its reputation must be made to suffer. I DEMAND BLOOD! We gamers cannot let gaming "journalists" get away with saying whatever the hell they want. We owe it to ourselves to hold them accountable for publishing something that is not true. Otherwise, if o...
@Resistance100 & Lodossrage:
Don't shoot the messenger. I didn't come up with "muted" on my own. I was only quoting blogs like Kotaku and 2 CH.
Anyway, about new skus generating excitement, I can think of a few recent examples. Last year everytime the DS introduced a new color there were long lines outside all the Yodobashis and BIC Cameras and there were shortages of the new SKUs for weeks. I thought the new white PS3 would generate the same kind o...
I'm not sure these numbers are worth anything, but if they are true, the great bulk of the PS3 sales lead in the EU comes from sales in Spain and Italy. I'm sure Sony will gladly take sales anywhere it can get them, but these are two relatively tiny markets that will get saturated before long. Sony is not going to meaningfully cut into the 360 lead by relying on Italian and Spanish sales much longer.
Moreover, Italy and Spain are two countries in Europe that don't have signific...
If more than two thirds of your company's revenue comes from one console you would show it some love too.
