Capcom obviously thinks it can make money off of the small portion of wii owners that are serious gamers. These are the same people that buy Zelda/Metroid/Biohazard. The strategy obviously involves sprucing up last-generation assets for as little cost as possible. They are not going to invest 360/PS3 level development money because they know, despite the big wii hardware sales numbers, that the market for hard core games on the wii is actually not that big.

Aha! Don't say I didn't see this coming. I don't think the bundle was the reason for the surge. Even if you bundle 2 games with the 40 gb model, people won't be in a rush to buy it because they know there will be plenty of those for a long time. On the other hand, people know that BC is going to get phased out, and if they want it, they will have to act quickly before the 60 gb model is gone for good. That is the only plausible explanation for the sudden jump in sales. I predict PS3 hardware ...

I liked it a lot. I'm easily pleased by shooters, but I won't hesitate to recommend Lost Planet to anyone. I think most people will enjoy it unless they've become too jaded.

360 fanboys should be happy that other games besides Halo are doing well on the 360. That means other developers besides Bungie will make money and will want to develop more games for the 360. Let Halo languish at no. 5 or lower selling 100,000 a week. Make Orange Box a million seller too and the 360 will get more love from Valve, a top tier developer. Make Ace Combat 6 a million seller when it comes out and maybe Namco will bring Tekken and its other franchises to the 360. Get the drift? <...

This game might have had a chance had it come out when it was supposed to. But now it has to compete for gamers' time and money with some very high quality shooters. At this time of the year it's not good enough to be just good enough. The game has to be excellent, or it will get lost in the crowded release calendar. I'm an FPS fan myself, and I usually buy a game as long as it doesn't suck. I will eventually play Timeshift if the reviews are decent, but I won't be able to get to it until nex...

Kids, let's not get too excited yet. We should expect PS3 sales to jump because if nothing happened, that would have been a really bad sign for Sony. What I want to know is how much of the current sales are for the 40 gb or the 60 gb model. If it's mostly the 40 gb model, that would be really good news for Sony because that's the model that will be around from now on and its popularity would strongly indicate the PS3 will maintain its high sales momentum. However, if it's mostly the 60 gb mod...

The podcast was about a lot more than just the PS3 BC issues. But this is the last 1up podcast I'll ever listen to. Time and again these guys have proven to be almost as clueless and misinformed as a lot of the punks that post here. In the previous episode they called BS on initial reports that PS3's BC was cancelled, and we know how right they were on that one. Worse, one of them even admitted that he had not known until then that Sony's software BC actually relied on some hardware. This sho...

Let me do it step by step:

1. I want a new Elite with the 65 nm falcon chip but I have no good reason to buy one because my current Elite works fine (it's one of the more reliable later models, but not a falcon).
2. I also want a PS3 but I'm not in a hurry to get one.
3. Then Gamestop suddenly lets me trade my old Elite for a whopping $200 off a new PS3.
4. I now have a good excuse to get a PS3.
5. I also have a good excuse to get rid of my old Elite...

If retailers like Gamestop offer a 360 trade-in deal for PS3s, they may actually move a lot of 40gb units. The only downside is that shops are gonna end up with a lot of pre-falcon 360's that would be hard to sell.

I own a zephyr Elite and I'm thinking of trading up to a new elite with the falcon chip. A PS3 trade-in may be tempting for me because it allows me to hit 2 birds with one stone: I finally get a PS3 for less and with the money I save I can buy a new falcon elite. I'm...

This is old news, but I still have something new to say about it. Removing BC may actually be a good move for Sony in the short-term. People that want BC will be forced to buy the 60 gb models before they sell out, or they will lose the chance to get a PS3 with BC for good. This will create a big jump in sales over the holidays despite a lack of big system movers and give Sony something good to show developers that may be thinking of dropping PS3 support (ala Monster Hunter). This may not be ...

Tecnically, the 40gb model is not a price cut. As long as Sony continues to offer the 60/80 gb sku, the 40gb is just an additional option for people who don't want to pay extra for BC. More options = win. If the price of the 60/80 gb models are lowered, THAT'S a price cut.

This guy should not be bashing Sony for offering consumers more choices. Sony saw that its single sku strategy was not working out while MS's multiple sku strategy was actually paying off. So like any ration...

It will be a long time before there can be any winner in this format war. Even if one format drops out tomorrow, market penetration by high-definition players is still so low that there is no guarantee that the surviving format will become the industry standard and replace DVD.

I hope dual players get cheaper more quickly so consumers will not be forced to pick a side.

MS doesn't own ATI. The die shrink is ATI's job. Maybe if Takahashi asked ATI about it, they would be able to explain to him what's taking them so long. And Falcon just came out, for pete's sake. People aren't even sure how to get hold of one, so it's a little early to be talking about the next hardware revision. Instead of getting all worked up about a die shrink that may not be coming for another year, I would be more interested to find out if the Falcon finally solves the thermal dissipati...

There's some money to be made with the wii, but it's not going to be the same business as the 360 or the PS3. After observing how my girlfriend, parents and their friends took over my wii over the course of the year, I learned that the wii tends to be used and enjoyed differently from the other two consoles:

1) First, on the 360 and the PS3, you usually need to spend serious effort and concentration for some time to become skillfull enough to enjoy and complete a game. In contr...

Halo 3 sales are a harbinger for any well made shooter for the 360 that is properly marketed. PGR and Forza are harbingers for any well made racer on the 360 that is properly marketed. Oblivion and Mass Effect are harbingers for any well made WRPG on the 360 that is properly marketed. Heck, almost any kind of game will sell well on the 360 if it is well made and properly marketed. Every developer looking at 360 sale's numbers should feel a little better about their prospects on the console an...

"PS3 moving in the right direction, I know that much"

Analysts have been nagging Sony for a cheaper sku even before the PS3 came out. There is still no statistical evidence that PS3 is moving in the right direction (40 gb isn't even out yet), and yet you already claim to "know that much." The only thing backing up your comment at the moment is, guess what? Analysts' predictions! So while your comment is probably accurate, you should acknowledge that you are ...
