I think what's interesting is that the original Ape Escape was used as a title to justify the first DualShock control scheme way back on the PSone. And I'm getting a similar vibe with Ape Escape PS3 -- that it's being developed to justify that new control scheme. Could be the killer-app needed to rocket propel Playstation Move.
This is so stupid. I'm sorry, but this is just flash to cover up the actual product they're trying to promote.
Sadly it will work. Good move Microsoft.
It also sounds cool to say, right? "Shmup". I like it. Whoever coined it deserves a medal! :)
Thank you for pointing that out DJ. I've corrected the error. Apologies in advance! :)
It's up now here in Europe. Presume it's coming today (if not already up) for the US.
Very true, but they have said they'd like to do more on the PS3. I wouldn't mind seeing a PSN game or something from them.
But yeah, I expect DS too.
The statistic was released today in Japan so I doubt what you read was confirmation.
I kind of wish Cox would come out and clarify his statements. Either way I'll be looking to the release of the issue of PSM3 where I can read the full interview in context.
As clarified by the people on these boards: his statement seems a little odd considering the pedigree of many "exclusive" releases.
Exactly. I'd take a polished five hours over a drawn-out fifty hours any day. If you look at any game that takes longer than 20 hours to complete, it's subsequent "bulk" is usually a result of a repetition anyway.
Give me a well considered, well designed, and well constructed 10 hour experience and I'll likely play through it multiple times.
Pad the experience out with filler and it becomes much less of an exciting proposition; with the good being watered d...
Please read the full story before commenting folks. It sounds like the developers are pretty into Playstation Move, claiming internal tests have got it working much more accurately than the Wii. Matt notes that he didn't see anything on the show-floor that particularly interested him, but did like the augmented reality stuff.
On the other hand, this report basically just straight up says that Natal is plain busted, and developers can't get it to work.
I'm sorry, but how can you rip-off "table tennis"? Does that mean Wii Tennis is a rip-off of SEGA's Virtua Tennis?
This would kinda be huge. Firstly: it's kinda awesome that Sony might be taking such a high-profile franchise to showcase their tech.
Secondly: 1:1 motion control coupled with stereoscopic 3D is closing in on virtual reality. VIRTUAL REALITY.
You're right, it's best not to get too excited prematurely.
If it's MotorStorm 3, I want it to be on water like WaveRace.
Sales have nothing to do with quality though do they?
When the EA/Microsoft rumours popped up though, that's why no one should have worried about sports games on the PS3.
They could EASILY do it. I'm pretty sure Sony used to do a soccer game, they obviously do MLB, and they could easily extend that.
But, while EA are around, I think it's fine for them to just do this baseball game. Although I would like to see what else this studio could produce.
Aside from some copy & pasting, even the crowd is amazingly well animated.
Absolutely. It feels so close. I'm glad they've still got the 6 months polish they need.
Fake.
If you read the review, you'd see our opinion is totally justified. Feel free to disagree, but don't claim we're biased. Thanks.
It sucks because it's a really good game. It's been well marketed too. It's just that it's a niche title.
HOWEVER - I expect the game to have some decent legs. It'll likely float around the charts for some time, and then end up being bundled with systems. It's perfect for that.
Therefore, I wouldn't particularly worry about these sales results.
