I just hope the new engine isn't full of kinks, like some of the lesser known engines are...
Yeah if this was only on 1 console there would be one side saying it is the best idea ever and the other saying it is going to be crap and is insensitive!
This game is one of those things: I'm looking forward to seeing it to see how they deal with the material. I have some reservations, but we'll see how they go with it. Fun, horrible, mindless, thinking...gross, violent, cartoony....It could be so many things.
I think they are worried that film is passive and games are active...you participate in it and so the degree of sensitivity depends on the player. Then there is the issue of if it would be fun, if it was a serious look at the war...or if it should be fun.
There have been some really thought-provoking articles on N4G in the last week or so about this game. Have a look through 'search' if you are interested in the different perspectives.
Some kids who are horrified by dusty board boxes coming out of the cupboard might be more tempted to play with the family if it's a video game???
Otherwise...
Yes, I can imagine how many folks thought the original was family friendly and accidentally saw that...
Never been to Bologna, but I've been to Pisa, Florence, Volterra and San Gimignano...Beautiful area for sure. I'd love to go back.
I agree totally that it is good we aren't always going sci fi, or modern-near future, WW2, or fantasy all the time in games.
Those medieval towns in tuscany would make great places to plan assassinations. The towers do look very similar...certainly not like Venice.
I don't think it'll be AAA stuff but I do think it'll be worth playing.
Do you remember the days you could enjoy non AAA games almost as much and not have to compare graphics, AI or whatever and just enjoy the gameplay and concept? I'm hoping this title does well as it has an interesting concept.
But then so did Legendary and that one was fun in bits and would have done well to release at a budget price.
They used to do that with films too...it took awhile after before there were a lot of holocaust films out or Vietnam films. I'm not saying this is the same, but I wonder if a game on a real event and an active war could at least provoke discussion or empathy for what soldiers go through?
Or would it just be propaganda that cheapens the sacrifices many have made? I don't know...but it is an interesting and brave decision to try this game. Or a very cynical and crass one.
There are a couple other articles I've read recently about this on N4G that have been interesting too:

There certainly is room for debate and I'm personally glad we aren't just talking about PS3 vs 360 for once!!!
If all that is true I am so pumped for this game...
But I loved the original....
Looks like we get to see how the little sisters came about...
Too right...If the title said exclusive MS or Sony Game based on Iraqi war to be released....it would go ballistic: arguments would rage.
Here not much comment...
It is an issue that gaming has to tackle: how close to realism can a game get before being insensitive.
Well if it is an Americas Army or gung-go crap then it deserves to fail miserably.
@ Super
Too right.
Do you think video games give young people the idea that war is glorious and fun, or do you think most know it is sheer hell and that games are different?
It's a tough question...
If it is standard shooter stuff without a deep focus on the story and trying NOT to kill everyone in sight it will be insensitive but it could also not be fun being so serious.
And these games are always from one perspective. I still wonder what the Japanese thought of World At War...though I guess the younger gen are far removed from WW2.
Mate the guy who wrote the article looks to be Dark Armada (Lee Edgerton) and the guy posting comments looks to be XboxOZ360 (Grant somebody).
What pisses me off is that all we hear about for weeks before and after an exclusive is about that exclusive: Killzone 2 is crap or is a masterpiece or whatever.
It seems nobody seems interested in other games or gaming ideas...only which console is better (which is subjective).
It really looks like this game will be good: they are keeping the good stuff from AC1 but fixing the repetition. I love the new time period and location too.
I wonder what he meant by 'seductive'? Side missions?
