Sure but his point is that more and more games are doing it just for the sake of it...so that (if he didn't want to listen to it) he would be able to play less and less games. Gears 2 had a mode to turn it off...can't be that hard for devs to do that for those that want it.

Did you read the article or any of the comments. There is swearing and then there's gratuitous swearing trying to look cool and looking stupid.
That's because it is. They are trying to be like 'real' military guys and instead sound like wannabes because they do it so over the top. Even if real military guys do swear a lot, they probably do it in better context or they'd sound like idiots to each other too.
Uncharted had some of the best dialogue that fit totally in context. Killzone not. 50 Cent you have to expect that, but the game didn't need him. It would have been better without all the swearing. Some of it was a bit funny though.
As for kids...you can't even play those games with surround sound without the whole neighbourhood hearing it.

I didn't realise Gears of War 2 you can choose to filter out bad language. Maybe if you are going to make it a feature of your game that might be a good option?
Zeitgeist no offence but...YOU HAVE TO PUT THE TITLE IN AS IT IS IN THE ACTUAL ARTICLE. Can't change it....read the rules. And who cares if XBox and GCN are dead...they have a channel for it and games back then had less swearing. Therefore relevant.

Yeah that movie Wanted was over the top and it sounded stupid there too. Yet it was funny in In Bruges... It has to be done with some context. Sure I know a lot of people actually DO talk like that, (like 50 Cent in the example) but all these scripted swear phrases in games just to sound like cool baddies do make a game seem a bit silly.
I think Riddick, Killzone 2, Conflict: Denied Ops, Kane & Lynch are good examples...
I think Operation Flashpoint is doing something like that.
I don't mind death being slower or not existing myself. Those old school games used to frustrate me so much that they simply were not fun. Thank God for better save points and thinking outside the box.
If in PofP I had died all those mis-timed jumps or poor camera angle jumps, I would have thrown my controller again like the old days.
Maybe that makes me less hardcore, but I play for fun not ac...

I agree. I like my environments to be diverse. Sure you can have great story and gameplay (sometimes together...) but when everything goes together with a great variety in envionments...bliss.

I soooo hope Thief is being made for consoles like is rumoured. Thief for Xbox is still one of my top games of all time, along with Goldeneye and Resident Evil 4.
I liked Brute Force too, actually. Some of those studios had some pretty quality titles.

It really depends on the 'red flags'. I'm all for getting rid of all the fanboy rubbish...but if smaller commentary articles are accidentally or purposely eliminated by the system, then I don't like it.
News is just boring announced facts with PR attached and everyone can get it from anywhere within a day. Opinion on news and commentary and debate on gaming is much more interesting and why I'm here.

Oh I don't know...I think the Nazi Zombie thing is a good addition to multiplayer.

I'd much rather read an article with details or something to say about a game or gaming than some short line that is there just to catch interest and has nothing much of substance behind it.
