The simple logic (Which doesn't apply as much this late in the gen) is that it does help you understand where the market is going to head/back. Traditionally, the best selling console gets the bulk of major releases, and a good selling game usually means you'll get a sequel.
So its important if you want a health console with a steady stream of games, but that isn't always the case as the Wii is proving this gen.
I assume, the 10 million is probably from MS? So if anything, I assume it was the total amount they shipped for the quarter.
Because yeah no way Europe and Japan is making up 6 million for the Xbox.
Yeah a solid number, but it does show a decline of 8.6%, which is odd since thought Nov was up huge.
But they haven't failed with their "Experiments" which is why they continue down that root.
I'm expecting that Retro has expanded to do two games at a time.
The first one will be a new IP, and the second will be Donkey Kong Country Returns 2.
I don't think they need DKCR 2 this year if they are launching with New Super Mario Bros Mii.
Like anything on the internet, from themselves.
Nintendo will be at CES... OMG they are going to blow the lid off of Wii U!
Nintendo, we're only showing it behind closed doors to those who didn't see it at e3... somehow, that doesn't get picked up
I would point out that the DS sold pretty damn well "after the Mario games" were done as well. Since NSMB and Mario Kart DS were both out roughly in 2005 or so.
@DragonKnight
I think the difference is that MS was spending a ton of money to break into the industry. They've really kind of evened out in recent year (not saying they've recouped all that they've invested)
Where as Sony has been a force in the industry, as you mentioned for 2 gens, and really have fallen on hard times. And its not just the gaming division. They can't continue to bleed money.
Though not saying ANY of the 3 are going...
A lot of that really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things though.
Technology, if the last 5-6 years hasn't proven it, is nothing if not at the right price with the right combination of software.
And you mentioned Sony's biggest Achilles' heel is a LOT of what they need doesn't come from them. Almost all of those sans 3 games... are multiplatform titles, and can go anywhere.
Gran turismo does well, but there has b...
Nintendo is as vulnerable as any company especially if they don't show that hunger and desire that they showed last year to get the 3DS where it is now.
Sony as well needs to start turning favor on their side.
Aren't they just shy (Sony still hasn't sold out of the launch shipment of the console)
I don't believe the PS Vita is doomed or whatever. I think its hyperbolic to the utmost.
But I also don't get the 3DS/Vita comparison. Nintendo took major steps to ensure that the 3DS had a major turn around. So unless Sony has the same sort of tricks up their sleeve, it isn't exactly a comparable situation.
As of right now, they don't really have THE title to spark sales in Japan yet, but that could change between now and the end of the year...
I think you have some of your facts mixed up.
Sony was working on a CD based add-on for the SNES, not a console that Nintendo would develop for.
And I believe Nintendo licensed out Zelda to Phillips, they still didn't make the games for those consoles.
Neither of those are really instances of them testing out being a 3rd party.
More like trying to expand their business.
Nintendo would be fine, though I think their games.. would take a hit.
I'm more curious about the rest of the industry. The common belief is/was that 3rd party developers could never sell games on Nintendo platform because Nintendo dominated them.. what happens when that spreads to every console? Do 3rd parties just pack it up?
Then the Dragon Borne must be Hogan and Flair since he never was able to defeat them
That doesn't make sense.
While the price drop helped, the sales have done better and remained higher since the slate of games you mentioned.
Not to mention each of those 3 games you listed have sold about 25% of the userbase which is great, no matter how you cut it.
I agree with the abundance of PS Vita is doomed articles. But I do think, you can't stick your head in the sand and say, just wait until Feb or March to see how it does in Europe and the States.
Sony has a real issue at hand in Japan, and if it doesn't begin to look good, you can see Japanese developers take a more wait and see approach with development. Which would mean less titles for the Vita overall.
~Edit
And reading the article, I don...
Even still the PS Vita is still lagging behind the 3DS on the same timeline, and was released during a holiday season.
Second, and speaking of ignoring thing, yeah the 3DS sold 4k in a week, but you seemed to have ignore the fact this was the week before the price drop. Where most people probably held off for that week.
Well that's not true, Mario Kart and Mario actually sell better than CoD, but seems to be an HD thing.
Also think mixing up facts with Halo, yeah Xbox is 6, but will be 7 years when Halo 4 comes out, if it is a 2012 title.
I never once said MS lied, but Europe/North America/Japan makes up the bulk of the industry. That much hasn't changed recently. And we know Japan really doesn't support the Xbox. I believe less than 20,000 for the 3 months or so.
