I think we had this conversation last gen.

3rd party developers will take about 2 years to start making games that use the potential the consoles have to offer. 1st party exclusives will be our earliest first look into what these consoles can do.

We know the drill at this point. No need for inflammatory articles.

I think in general if they can make every mechanic feel good, that is a step in the right directions. Far too often you get open world games that are so large in scope that lots of the mechanics fall by the way side.

By mechanic i mean: combat (Melee, ranged, magic), looting, crafting, mobility (climbing, running, jumping, etc. ), lockpicking, etc

The common thing I always say when i play a game that i like but am not really into is, i wish it had the (inser...

Speed.

Time is money, and we all know that games are now costing more than ever to make. Asset creation is very time consuming for artists.

As far as I could gather, the following is a grossly simplified artist workflow in game development.

--> Create high quality asset
--> Downgrade said asset to meet the performance demands of the machine
--> Add visual trickery techniques to make the lower quality asset...

That looked absolutely stunning.

That was all without ray tracing by the way. Their global illumination essentially gives you this quality without the performance cost of ray tracing. The engine can support ray tracing as well. Absolutely nuts.

This is also remarkable for game creators and artists who can import high quality assets directly into game without having to spend the time and effort to purposefully downgrade assets and add normal maps after t...

It matches based on input. If not now it will later. Other crossplatform titles do this.

Crossplay lobbies generally detect input and match accordingly. I would assume that this will be the standard. The ability to opt out of crossplay is becoming an option as well so I don't see this becoming and issue.

Additionally I am not sure if you are being purposely dishonest or just ignorant to the main reason why crossplay is appealing.

I want to play with my friends regardless of the platform. This is smart. This makes sense. Crossplay is the f...

What an stupid take.

You cannot even pretend to hide your inner fanboy. It is a win for the industry. The only reason you would not like it is because you are anti consumer. Plain and simple.

Crossplay is amazing. Especially during these times. I have lots of friends who I connect with through games. They do not all play on the same platform. Being able to spend time and play with them without worrying what console they have is fantastic and WILL BE STA...

My hope is that this is the first of many moves towards a normal business model.

First they make stadia pro free for two months, than permanently.

Then they allow you to play games that you already own on pc and then on console without additional purchase.

If this is the path they take and the cost to me is minimal I will give it a shot. Just not at where it stands right now.

Well think about it. The whole reason for the delay is the fact that they dont want to alienate the "physical for life" crowd. They could easily release the game digitally but that would cause that crowd to go in nuclear meltdown.

We will see. I'm curious if Sony will maintain this stance.

COVID-19 Dumbass!

Yes we can and should judge. Fuckers like this are going to make this virus last longer than it should. Ridicule is our responsibility at this point.

Buy digital.

Yea. If they pursue this model going forward (f2p multiplayer) they will become relevant again. I thought Activision was too stubborn to go this route but this move will keep them in the conversation going forward.

It is substantially more polished than pretty much any other BR on the market right now.

I am not even that much of a BR fan, but it is instantly noticeable when you start playing the game.

The pace is more akin to PUBG as op...

What is the easiest way to see a dark object? Put it on a white background.

Contrast allows us to easily see the impact something has. By having such a stark before and after image, we get to really understand the impact Ray Tracing will have on games generally. While the benefits might be difficult to see in a modern games, there is no question of its impact in minecraft.

This is also a good way of letting the less technic...

@ Godmars290

You mention that MS has not learned a thing.

What do you think their business plan should be going forward? (this is not sarcastic, just curious)

Do you take issue with the lack of exclusives out of the gate for XBSX?

Do you take issue with them even pursuing streaming in the first place?

What would be your ideal xbox in the current environment going into next gen?

I think I commented something along those lines in an article about guerrilla games response to the criticism over releasing horizon on PC. Fiduciary duty to shareholders is what guides decisions, not fan backlash.

I understand that my temperament predisposes me to fall in the glass half full camp when discussing things with potential upside and downsides. More of an optimist, but I do see the concerns people have.

Good points.

Although my argument is that most things are always online. If anything Microsoft was early, and telegraphed where the industry would go years later. The hurdle is not as high as it once was. Most people outside of games don't really bat an eye at the notion of always online.

They are all big babies who don't like to share their toys. lol

How could their beloved Playstation stoop to the level of Microsoft!

OH THE HORROR!

It makes them sick to their stomach to know that they can't use this line of argumentation when they rush to comment on articles that paint Microsoft in any positive light.

Finally PS developers are getting a close up view of the stupidity of PS fanboys. They rec...

"Sony already tried that. Didn't work."

Sony doesn't have the money or the technical expertise to make game streaming work well. Microsoft does. It wasn't that the concept was bad, just that the one doing it did not have what it took to do it well.

"MS is doing it cause they don't know what to do with their own platform, and are too focused on always online."

One thing that most people should know by ...
