VRR - Variable Refresh Rate.
The game will look a lot smoother and reduce tearing as the tv will match the frame rate output of the console. Jutter is reduced or gone entirely. Think G-sync or AMD's free sync.
I have a 65" LG CX OLED and I can attest to it looking really good.
@SirBruce, ya I think developers should aim for really good Global Illumination like in the unreal 5 demo from many months ago. If that solution can look as good as it did but not be as computationally intensive as full on ray tracing, I would rather have the additional frames.
So I am confused after reading the article.
As far as I can tell the xbox has a slider that lets you choose between 4k and a higher frame rate mode.
The PS5 does not have the same slider, but DOES have a raytracing toggle. Is that raytracing at 4k or raytracing at higher frame rates?
So are we comparing apples to apples? What does the game natively run at on both consoles? Do both versions of the games have a performance mode? If anyon...
Ya this is not a big deal. Playstation will get these games, just not first. Thats okay.
happy to report I snagged a Series S and X. Now need to snag a ps5 in Canada
Yea for TV gaming you are probably right. But I often play with my brother in the same room and he usually pulls out a 1080p monitor. In such a scenario 1080p will be fine. Probably will go with a Series S for him and a Series X for myself on the tv.
As someone who has sunken a decent amount of time into this game, I will say that lore is not a focus. It is nice table dressing but by no means the hook. If you were to ask the majority of the Overwatch fanbase they would not be able to articulate character backstories and significant events in the universe. The closest thing Overwatch has to lore would be the interesting and diverse character designs.
There is a desire to see the world of Overwatch developed further, and ...
This is disappointing. I was kind of shocked when looking at the halo infinite gameplay reveal. Nothing here looked like an increase in fidelity. It looks worse than destiny. New mechanics looked sloppy (grapple mechanic looked slow and clunky) compared to the games where they were first introduced. Nothing in halo looked next gen except for the CGI cutscene about the construction of the spartan armour.
Ya, Ubisoft does not optimize their games well for the PC platform. Every game I have on pc from Ubisoft does not run well. It is a shame.
The gains that could be had by making optimization a primary focus would be remarkable. IF their goal is to get as many people playing their games as possible, then having the games being capable of running well on lower spec'd hardware is a must.
Preach!
I guess wearing your fanboyism on your sleeve is one approach. Makes identifying idiots much easier.
The author of this article seems to have taken the, "How to piss off N4G commenters and get a shit tonne of engagement" course on udemy.
Yes, I agree. Xbox needs more IP.
I am hoping that they do something this gen to address this issue. With the studio acquisitions I believe that they are moving in this direction. I look forward to seeing the resulting games.
It is exhausting and depressing seeing people actively advocate against consumer friendly business practices.
Class is in session. Chapter 1.
lifeisgamesok, here is question 1.
Jimmy has 60 dollars to spend on a video game. Video game 1 can be purchased once and be played on every subsequent generation of the hardware of his choice. Video game 2 has to be purchased every time a new console generation come out. Which option is more econ...
@RazzerRedux
I think that the conversation is moving in a direction where we imply the innovation moves into the software domain. Games competing against games. Overhead costs of console manufacturing either offloaded to a 3rd party and Sony and Microsoft focus on their IP, or Sony and Microsoft agree upon a console platform that they would both like to see in next gen. One immediate benefit of Microsoft not having to focus on hardware would be that they focus on creating g...
Imagine what they can do when Dreams supports PS5 hardware. if THIS is the creative output we are getting right now, imagine what can happen with stronger hardware and time. Dreams is super exciting to watch. What the player base is coming up with is awesome.
I will be 100% honest, if I only have to buy 1 box instead of 2, I don't think I will complain that much. I believe this to be the endgame anyways.
I was not implying that they should demonstrate a proprietary engine, but rather a Sony/epic like demonstration with UEV.
I think some demonstration would be good. The first Xbox20/20 event was lacklustre. We need to see what the SeX can do. I want to learn more about the "velocity" architecture, which is supposedly Xbox's response to the PS5 "Kraken" architecture.
I just want to see a better demonstration of the xbox hardware.
...
Microsoft needs to respond with a tech demo of their own, very much along the lines of the UEV demo. I will hold judgement until then. It is crazy how there were all of these articles about Microsoft being in a better position this gen, and then BOOM epic releases this demo running on a PS5. These companies are keeping each other honest. And we get to benefit from this rivalry.
The competition in this space is something the whole gaming community should be happy about. Righ...
As an owner of the LG CX, there should be some good developments that come out of this.
I have had a few annoyances that should be ironed out with this partnership.
- The annoying "instant game response" popup that comes up every time your switch from dashboard to games is annoying as all hell, plus it covers up the top right corner of the screen where you would usually see the quick resume text.
- Another rare issue I have be...
