I am excited to play anything from them, but I also hope it is Episode 3. Or is there any chance that they would just jump into a full blown Half Life 3? Either way, I just want some more Half Life.
IGN reviews are crap. It seems like so many of their reviewers are just fanboys of established franchises and they automatically hate on any challengers.
This review and the Castlevania review are two recent examples. Neither game got a fair shake. They were not judged on their own merits, but criticized harshly for not being some other game. MOH isn't Modern Warfare and Castlevania isn't another 2D metroidvania game. Boo hoo.
Just watch, they&...
Nobody can say that Gears 3 will be the best-looking game in 2011, but I do think that it looks better than anything out right now on consoles.
We'll have to wait and see how other games like Killzone 3, Crysis 2 and Rage stack up.
A lot of it is because of the new dynamic lighting engine. It makes everything look better and more "real". Texture detail seems better, but I'm not sure if that is because they have improved the textures or if they just look better becaus of the way the lighting is playing off them.
See, this review was reasonable. He didn't mark it down for not being another rehash of the metroidvania games. He also recognized the good qualities of the game that make it so great.
@HollyOrangeCows
No, but it's like if a reviewer gave Uncharted 2 a 7, would you stand behind that? I wouldn't. Uncharted 2 is another game that is clearly not a 7 or 8 type game.
That's what hearing such low scores and negative reviews for CLoS is like for many of us. It does not compute.
Playing the game and then trying to imagine anybody giving it a 7 is just mindboggling.
There is no stuttering in the retail 360 version of CLoS. I have it and what you are saying is simply not true. Nor is there any freezing.
I have the 360 version and I didn't encounter this bug or any other bugs.
OR why not by a console (because you want a console, not a PC) that has the best performing multiplatform games 95% of the time and still get to enjoy great looking exclusives like Alan Wake, Halo Reach and Gears of War?
I own a PS3 because it has some great exclusives and it plays Blu-ray movies, but I don't understand the incessant put downs directed at the 360. Personally, I would rather have a console that looks better on hundreds of games over a console that has be...
Except when IGN claimed that the PS3 version of Bioshock looked better than the 360 version, which was a total lie and proven to be false by many other sources.
I have the 360 version of Castlevania and it has very minimal slowdown similar to what was found in the PS3 demo of the game, but hardly noticeable at all. The game is beautiful and runs great. I think the devs were telling the truth when they said that the slowdown IGN talked about was only in the review copy of th...
If you can't feel the Castlevania in this game you are just being obstinate. No, it isn't a clone of older games brought into 3D, it's a reboot of the franchise.
When other reboots came out they didn't get the same treatment as Castlevania has got from some sites. For example, the Prince of Persia reboot that came out in 2008 was far different than previous Prince of Persia games, but most reviewers stuck to judging it based on its own merits. Castlevania L...
Except I rarely, if ever, see Xbox fans act this way about similar comments. For instance, Gabe Newell says Xbox Live is a mess and I don't see Xbox gamers saying "oh yeah f*ck you, Gabe Newell, I'm not going to buy any of your games anymore!"
Well, that's fanboy logic for you. Hate on anything or anybody that has anything slightly to do with a comment that is negative towards the PS3 to the slightest degree.
"I'm not going to buy such and such game because the husband of the sister of one of the game's artists said that he doesn't like the PS3." That might be an exaggeration, but it's not too far from the truth.
I don't see what is so offensive about any of the ...
They also post plenty of articles that put the 360 or its games in a negative light.
It seems they are more interested in writing flamebait articles that get fanboys on both sides clicking on their site. I guess they don't realize that many fanboys on either side are just choosing not to click on their trashy site at all.
No, it's stupid for developers that are either owned by Sony or only make games for Sony to constantly be spewing this marketing hype BS.
Other 3rd party developers have directly contradicted what they say. Besides, they don't make games for the 360 so they really aren't qualified to be talking about its limits or capabilities.
Again, you are just stating your opinion. You haven't proved anything.
Infamous 2 is not doing anything special. Sorry, it just isn't.
As for the upgrade from Infamous to Infamous 2, I'd say it is decent, but not any greater than we saw from Halo 3 to Halo Reach. Probably less.
Moreover, the first Infamous was an average looking game, so even with the improvements it is not a bar-raising game.
If Sony didn't own G...
I agree that people aren't doing a very good job of explaining what they mean by advocating more objectivity in reviews, but I think their basic impulse is correct.
It's not that reviews could ever be devoid of opinions, it's that those opinions should not be colored by bias or illogical thinking.
Imagine if a reviewer marks down a game simply because it isn't on his favorite console. Or imagine a reviewer marks down a Castlevania reboot simp...
Well, that's the freaking point, the contents of their review does not match the score they gave it.
So let's see, it has great gameplay, amazing graphics and sound, excellent voice acting, depth, and replayability, but it deserves a 7.5? WTF?
7.5 is a score that nowadays is applied to mediocre games that deserve a rental at best. Go look at all the games that have a 7.5 on metacritic and then try to tell me that Castlevania is in that same camp. <...
No it isn't. The cobat system is quite different, with the way you have to balance your focus and light and dark magic. I also don't find the movements that much the same. There is also more variety in CLoS. You do things in Castlevania that you don't do in GOW3 at all.
The fact is, GOW did not invent most of its mechanics anyway. That is a fact. So when other action/hach n slash games use those mechanics that work they are not copying GOW, but rather simply...
That's insane. Half Life and Half Life 2 are two of the best games ever made.
I know that people have different tastes, but that only goes so far. It's one thing to say that Jessica Alba isn't your type or that you think somebody else is hotter, but you can't say she is ugly. It's kind of like that.
