Some copied ideas by Nintendo:
Mario Galaxy (stolen from unreleased Ape Escape, how could Miyamoto allow it)
Riding the wave of 3D
Motion gaming (no they didn’t invent it)
There are three pillars to an RPG, and launch from them to varying degrees to form sub categories:
1-Exploration
2-Collection
3-Character build up
If you look past labeling you will find that some games are actually RPGs, and others -while labeled as such- are not. Based on this you could consider Red Dead Redemption an RPG, while FF13 is less so.
Those games are great, but I mean traditional JRPGs, VC is a SRPG and DS is something new (don't know what to compare it with).
Microsoft started this generation by trying hard to appeal to Japan, thy commissioned lots of RPGs, some are great others not so much, but not long afterwards that just disappeared, did they want success overnight?
I consider Lost Odyssey the best JRPG so far (more of a FF than FF13, it had that feel to it), and ToV was the best produced Tales series, but I'm disappointed to see them give up and just look to get Games go multi platform.
Me and my brother loved the first GK, its right up there with grim fandango in my book, tried to get into the other sequels but was disoriented by the changes, guess I was too young and not savvy enough to cope.
This new game came out of the blue for me, can't wait to try it out, hope I find the same level of mature storytelling.
The water animation in KZ3 are fantastic, I have a fear of the sea and looking at the E3 demo my legs were shaking, don’t know if I can handle that in 3D.
Don’t know about whether it will be open world or not, but its non liner.
An advice, play Fallout new Vegas first if you're planning on plying both it and Rage, I have a feeling it will be hard to look at after experiencing that level of graphics on a similar themed game.
Carmack, himself says the consol versions will be look identical, but the PS3 version will render more of the environment because of Bluray (360 will be 4 DVDs), but if you have a gaming PC then maybe that’s the best option.
The story sounds in character for Activision, they think too much about money, not much passion for the industry, the pleasure and pride of making a great game is getting smothered nowadays.
I hope bungie covered their bases with the deal they made.
What?! Where is FF6, its only the best FF ever, people are starting to forget it because Square remade and rereleased every FF except this one.
I'm a little depressed after finishing this game today, wish it had an alternate ending depending on the fame and honor system, but an epic game ether way.
I don’t get why 360 owners are happy the casuals are coming in, it's like being happy your girlfriend is seeing other men.
I'll give you a hint; it was before the merger of Square Enix.
portablegaming:"Well you could mean Chrono Trigger"
the one and only, 15 years and they still can't make anything close to the classic
If they give this franchise the same high production of the FF series, it may sell around 10 million, that's considering it always gets an automatic 4m minimum in Japan. Hope they wise up like Level5 and make another HD version.
Trivia: what RPG was made by the makers of DQ & FF?
The handhelds distracted Japanese developers, and gave them a cheap and easy option to work on, think about all the great DS and PSP games that could have been made in HD.
Take Ni No Kuni as an example, what a beautiful game it turned out to be on the PS3.
Let's settle this and declare what games we will get.
I'll be getting SOCOM4, Sorcery, Time Crisis and Echochrome2.
The developers ignored storytelling, thy sold millions to gamers who love just doing "fun stuff", but they also missed out on gamers who love good storytelling.
RDR was a game that had both, I would finish a mission and then go hunting wolves, waste a day trying to clean out a poker table, another trying to figure the odds in Liars Dice. This stuff could have gotten old real quick but the story kept me coming back for more.
What is the problem with scoring a 7, its actually a good score, Heavenly Sword got 7s but it's one of my favorite games this generation, in fact a lot of my favorite games averaged 7s. Don’t let scores distract you and forget about hype.
"nothing can stop the reach,fable3, kinect momentum train"
And Skittles, how could you forget about little cute Skittles.
Unreal games do have similar physics and graphics, Batman AA felt like GoW a bit.
The problem is the engine is over used, hope devs mix things up with CryEngien and Id's Rage engine (do thy license it?)
