I bought a used PS2 and wireless controller for my ten year old son last year because he wanted a DVD player for his room. I think it was like $30. It's been great since it does everything a DVD player can do and more. He picks up used games for $2-$4 a pop here and there and his buddies are all jealous: even though most of them have access to 360s or PS3s (as does my kid) in their family rooms very few have a gaming system in their own room.

@Ulf: I doubt there is hard data to support your wild assertions. Without any data one could easily assert the opposite with equal authority.

+1. It reached most of its potential for me personally. I had a blast with the Syphon Filter Series, MGS, GTA series, GOW series, LBP, and off beat stuff like Chili Con Carnage, Patapon, and Loco Roco. Not to mention the nonstop JRPGs.

Really got a lot of mileage out of the multimedia features on business trips and stuff as well. the PSP was a great product for the time and more of the same from the Vita would leave me as a happy camper. Can't speak for the other 70 milli...

BF3 locks up my PS3 every time I play it. So, no, for me, they didn't "nail it".

@Wintersun616: +1. No reason to exclude any platform. The more the better. That's why I own four PSPs, two PS3s, an X360, a Wii, a DS, a gaming desktop PC, a laptop PC, an Android Phone, and an android Pad. They're all valid in some context. And I'm glad I'm lucky enough to be able to grab all that gear. It's too bad people have to take a black and white view on things sometimes.

+1. LOL. I came in here just to say that now it only needs to come down by about $5 more to be worth it.

BF3 freezes my console sporadically. :(

COD Haters:

If you don't like it, don't buy or play. Vote with your wallet. I like COD a lot and can hack $60/year (I don't buy the map packs) to play the current skin/map set/campaign/co-op mode. Like any fad, it'll eventually die down. (I remember reading somewhere fads usually last ~3 years on average so it is already due somewhat).

In terms of cost per hour of entertainment, I'm quite happy with the value it provides and hardly expect...

The Ao2 games are a blast with a buddy and some beers! Admittedly, I picked both of the first two up after they had been discounted, so I'm not sure if they are full price day one titles, but they're definitely fun titles if you play the co-op mode.

They should have had a beta! LOL!

As someone who has preordered a Vita, I am pretty darned happy about it! :)

To be honest,it may sound wimpy, but I would much rather have an easy boss fight than one who is overwhelmingly difficult and kills my progress in the game. I tend to be a completionist so it really bothers me when I am blocked by a boss that is just ridiculously challenging or, much worse, CHEAP. There have been a couple of occasions I have very nearly quit a game I've poured hours into because of a cheap boss.

The game is very much worth it, IMHO. The boss battles may be a weak point but they are hardly a deal breaker.

How about free online multiplayer gaming? Oh wait, we get that every day! :)

LOL. I hope that's sarcasm. If you think the technical staff is making major bank just because the company is doing well, you have no idea what it's like to have a real job. Technical staff members will be paid what the going rate is for the industry. I.e. just enough to keep them chained to their desks.

The extra will be paid out as bonuses to the people who control the finances of the company not the people who actually do the work to make it successful. True story...

I've known maybe one or two female hardcore gamers. Just because someone on FB plays a few games does not make them a gamer. You can fuss about equality all you want, but the thematic elements in games are inherently masculine (competition, destruction, action) it will remain a male dominated thing.

Sure some game types may widen the gender appeal of certain classes of games but no amount of statistical spinning will change the reality of the fact that there will probably...

Just think how much money those poor guys are losing to the rental and used market. It must be 10s of billions. LOL. How will those starving devs and publishers ever survive? We better buy some DLC to make up for it.

Re more than one Vita.

I probably will eventually. I have four PSPs. I don't see myself owning just one Vita if I like it as much as the PSP. They'll release some newer, slimmer version, with an HDMI out and 4G in two or three years and I'll be all over it.

FWIW, I have about 50 to 60 UMD games (and four PSPs, huge PSP fan). And if it comes out to ~$5 in the US after conversion rates, I'll be a happy camper. I won't transfer everything but GoW, Syphon Filter, Resistance, Socom, GTA, and Dante's Inferno would all be lovely to have on my new toy come Vita time. For titles that aren't worth it, I'll just pass.

Plus, I'm sure I'll have at least one of those 4 PSPs functional if I get an itch for a UMD cl...
