This. For me there could be no bigger system and software seller than cross buy. Vita already has some cool and unique stuff released or in development (ex: Gravity Rush, Tearaway).
These features, cross play, cross buy, accessorized apps (like Dust 514 where the portable app supplements a console main title), PS One Classics, PSN+, are fantastic in terms of their potential and add significant value to Vita.
Sure Vita NEEDS system sellers and I don't thi...
I'm not sure I fully agree with the above but I do think losing Monster Hunter was a big problem for Vita, particularly in Japan. MH single-handedly kept the PSP relevant for a long time. It made it a huge seller in Japan which made it viable as an RPG dream handheld for a very long stretch which was really nice to see in its twilight years. I really wonder why it is Nintendo exclusive and whether Sony can do anything about that.
Now that I think of it, I wish my PS-certi...
Agreed. I'm a PSP owner who upgraded to Vita in the middle of replaying metal gear solid. I put that on hold after upgrading and I'm looking forward to getting back to it on the new toy.
It's called providing a great feature for your existing customers. I'm confused at all the negativity here since I don't see how this is anything but good. If you don't care about older games feel free to continue not playing them. It's not like PS1 classics are g...
I'll be happy if they hit the highlights in the first round and add stuff later. I'm sure that'll be the strategy. They'll look at the top sellers as the priority list.
FF7, MGS, Castlevania: Sotn, Crash Series, Spyro, they key/classic JRPGs, etc.
Then more obscure gems can be brought on over time. Maybe they'll let you transfer stuff via PS3 early too. Like they have for PSP titles. No reason to be negative, this is a very positive develo...
Welcome to the new internet/blog-based "media".
FWIW, a free (or voucher for a significantly discounted, say 50% or something) Vita version of a console title would likely sway me to buy the $60 console version of a particular game if I were on the fence. $60 > $0. It's strategic type thinking... which admittedly does not appeal to many American companies who are measured on direct quarter to quarter revenues and profits.
But really, the bottom line is, if I spend $60 on a console version, I much less likely to spen...
I agree. Since I would guess nearly every Vita customer also owns a phone how can having a system that allows you to purchase apps and get them for both devices be a down side? There are tons of phone/android apps/games I would sure like to have on my Vita.
Apps, too... cool. I will check it out. Thanks for the info!
@CSG: Is there some reason that you think Sony will never drop the price on it? That would be completely unprecedented in the history of technology. :) IF it's like the PSP or even the 3DS, it's okay to let it float as a premium priced product for a year or more. Why is it such an emergency that this thing put up big sales numbers just a few months within launch if they are committed to the product as a long term platform?
@sikbeta: Name one major technology product t...
Agreed. If the gfx are subpar it is certainly due to the dev. Vita has a lot of horsepower for a handheld and should be able to consistently generate striking visuals for such a small system.
So is this basically PS Minis that support both Android and Vita? That sounds pretty cool. My ASUS Infinity Tablet is going to be one of the Playstation certified devices, so I'm all set.
I love my Vita and nothing beats REAL controls but I agree, they look a little old school to people.
Because they gave the license to one of the worst devs in the industry: Nihilistic. It's certainly not because the Vita hardware is lacking.
Killzone looks insane because GG is actually implementing it.
Media Molecule is Awesome. It was an extremely cool idea for Sony to let them loose on a totally new IP on the Vita.
The new firmware update will be a great thing too.
Media Molecule is BRILLIANT. And Sony were smart to buy them.
Agreed. I think lowering the memory card price might even be a better move than lowering the base unit price. An expensive completely proprietary memory card is a bitter pill to swallow when I can get a very similarly sized but generic 32gb MicroSD that I can use in any other device I own for <$20.
I agree this is an important step. I'll bet a strong majority of Vita owners are PS3 owners.
I mentioned the need for a something like this in one of my other Vita posts on N4G recently. They had already done it with the pinball arcade game and I thought it was a brilliant move. A huge incentive for me to buy that title even though I already owned a couple.
I'm not likely to drop $60 on a AAA PS3 title and turn around and drop another $40 for a porta...
Thanks. This sort of info influences my opinion on the matter. There's always three sides to every story as they say.
They need to dust off Kevin Butler and have him deep in the Jungle "Apocalypse Now" style and rocking COD on the Vita.
The awesome thing about this, is any game that runs on it can be ported across platforms easily. So that means that theoretically GG could do a new PS3 game using this tech and have a very similar portable Vita version. Or they could do some kind of KZ3 port (good luck with all that gfx data ;) ).
