Well, it's a rough estimate. The console uses shared graphics memory for the whole thing unlike a PC, which uses dedicated RAM like DDR4 for the main system, and whatever memory is on the GPU for the graphics. So PC has a little advantage there.
You can't really say the PS5 uses a 3700x though as the console CPU is clocked more than 1Ghz slower. But yea overall it's a close estimate of performance you can expect from PS5.
The dedicated physics processor cards that used to be sold showed better promise than most/all current stuff they have in games, the company was swallowed up by Nvidia tho..
Now we got the stupid Gameworks crap that mostly tanks performance for what's essentially visual fx only. Half Life 2 did well with Havok physics built in since everyone could benefit, and it carried over to all the Source games, plus it wasn't just a visual effect.
Waiting on Nvidia 3000 series personally, i have no desire to play any recent games. Next year tho possible Back 4 Blood, and maybe new Half Life (VR).
You generally want at least near, or above recommended specs with games, I'd think my 980Ti from 2015 should run it decently at 1440p though.. Whether I'd get 100+ fps with my high hz screen is another thing, i doubt it. Guessing it would run surprisingly well tho. I've recently upgraded to a Ryzen 3700x so CPU isn't going to be a problem at least.
Rumours of a new Half Life coming soon will definitely push me to a new GPU when Nvidia release their 3000 seri...
To be fair it's only now PC tech has started to become exciting again after stagnation, only graphics cards have been advancing at a decent ish pace in comparison to CPU's, but they are also expensive.
The CPU space is getting good movement now and we could see even more decent advancement within 2-3 years from now. Let's hope Nvidia give us a nice GPU boost next year with the 3000 series and that the cards are fully unlocked to begin with, none of this Super m...
@darthv72 Remember the Physics processors they sold separately from GPU's ? Check out some demo's of those, they actually have better physics than most/all current stuff. Since Nvidia bought AGEIA and merged, they never sold physics cards again.
All we have now is gameworks which mostly just bogs down performance, and of course is an option to enable/disable, so is not required as part of the main game.. Making it visual effects only (at least mostly, i think) which...
Maybe if people grew some brains and stopped being idiotic there would be no need for this. The amount of abuse I see daily in online multiplayer is beyond pathetic, some people shouldn't be allowed an internet connection.
How come this trash still isn't banned from N4G? Put it in a section where we choose not to see it, or let us block this garbage by our own accounts please.
Maybe this guy gets excited by minors seeing porn..
PS5 games will likely be 1080p upscaled to 4k at 30fps if they are running ray tracing. Non ray traced games i expect nearer native 4k and 60/30fps.
Too bad it didn't get just another 1-2 years on the market, it could've done that easily. Support started off fairly strong at first too.
Eh tbf those specs aren't all that high, just disk space.
3000 series cards are apparently just around the corner, releasing early next year. The whole thing they did with the 2000 series was complete ass, overpriced, then they released the fully unlocked Super cards to try and milk even more.
I look forward to the 3000 series i imagine even the 3070 should be rather powerful. Hope there's a good increase in overall performance and not just ray tracing.
Anything related to new games might be on encrypted drives.. That said, too bad nothing on L4D3 ( if it even exists after the last one was supposedly scrapped ) or HL VR, or any new games they've been working on for that matter.
Pfft.. people still use 60hz monitors? But nah, they're ok, I wouldn't go back to one after having a 120hz 1080p and now 1440p 165hz screen. around 90-100 or so fps is the sweet spot IMO, gets less noticeable as you go up from there.
That's personal opinion, i originally had the SNES version and enjoyed it. Played the Sega version and didn't see what the fuss was about. I guess everyone just mentions the fact you get a sword and that's it.
That's what they should do, I wonder why MS even bother to keep the rights to these games if they don't even do anything with them.. pointless.
All i can say is, if they release HL3 as a VR only game, i imagine not many people will be happy about it.
Valve are apparently working on a VR Half Life game, but not HL3. Supposed to be a prequel.
Meh, this was the worst of the 3D GTA's. Acceleration/speed on cars felt so limited, little/no humour and too serious.. Vice City, San Andreas and the stories games were way more fun IMO.
Waiting for when some devs can make an FPS that doesn't look like a swaying boat when moving around.
They're good GPUs for the money, if you can wait tho Nvidia 3000 series is out supposedly early next year, which could be a big leap in perf we've been waiting for.
