I'm actually using an MSI gx660R laptop right now with a 5870m graphics card and 6gb ram. The CPU and even graphics card can be upgraded on this model (rarity for laptops)

Works well, i play L4D2 a lot on it and it rarely drops below 60fps full settings.

Obviously you can build a better desktop for the money also.

PC's sweet spot with a mid-high end video card is 1920x1080 for games to run at a consistent high framerate.

Go higher and you need a dual card, this introduces microstuttering. Until microstuttering is ccompletely eliminated i don't see a point in higher res for games.

For films yes, for games definitely not unless video cards can magically become over 100% faster on next release, and we all know each new card is usually between 10-20% faster than th...

Looks really good, really about the price of a Gaming PC or just under. So it's not cheap by any means.. however, the resolution is good so that it won't strain the hardware too much and this should mean smooth framerates.

I have to wonder if it's possible to upgrade any of it though, i mean sure it'll probably run new games for a couple of years or so but what then?.

For me yes, as long as they have some good funny games like Conker.. as usual it'll probably be boring titles like Halo and other rehashes.

Yeah but honestly, there is nothing a console has that makes me want to get away from my PC.

it's always the same thing, nothing new. I never played Conker on the N64 but it looks really funny, if they made games like that it would make me want to get away from my gaming rig.. but as consoles stand there are barely any games that make me want to go from my PC to a console. it's just not as fun for me.

I have a 5870M in my laptop, and there hasn't been a revolution in GPU's for years. I mean if you look at performance per card each year it's been about a 10-15% performance increase. it's like the Desktop 5870 which i also have, the 6870 released a year later was actually 10% or so slower than the 5870. So card numbers don't always tell the true story.

However, my laptop plays some games like L4D2 @ 1080P full details and rarely drops below 60FPS. On my d...

Dual cards introduce microstuttering, single best card and 1080P 60+fps is the way to go.

Crytek are only interested in making games that look a bit better than other great games while performing crap on brand new hardware. The first crysis could barely get 30-40fps on top end cards on release.

Games are bought to be played on release, not 2 years later.

Anyhow give me a great Valve game over Crytek's anyday.

I miss the early 2000's when we had great pc games like Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Soldier of Fortune 2,

Raven software needs to make a comeback to show how fun FPS games can be, these days we only have Valve and possibly ID(if they don't screw up Doom 4) to make great FPS games.

How does that make it better than Vita?, both systems are in the same boat atm.

You can only play older games through backwards compatibility.

Vita is also a fair bit more powerful over 3DS, if you played any great games like Uncharted you should know this.

Half Life 3 likely to be released or shown off next year on Source 2, Doom 4 also likely.

Can't wait personally, Valve make way better shooters than just about any other dev, especially against overrated ones like Halo.

PC will show consoles who's boss like 2004 all over again. Love to see what they do with L4D3 on Source 2.

That better be sarcasm, don't ruin games with religion now.

more like under ten seconds for me, my isp recently upgraded all 50mbps connections to 100.

Uh, not a good idea, multi gpu setups still suffer from micro stutter.

This is why when i upgraded my monitor to a 27" i got one with 1920x1080 resolution with 120hz refresh.. framerate is everything, and as long as i keep a high end single card for 2-3 years tops i can run at this res with games at a silky smooth 60+FPS.

4782d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

60fps is totally smooth, 30 is like slow motion.

That's why i bought a 27" 1920 x 1080 120hz screen earlier this year, as long as i buy the single best vid card every 2-3 years i will maintain a nice smooth framerate.

FPS really does matter, for the people who say it doesn't, try playing a first person shooter and limit the FPS to 30 then unrestrict it,big difference.I personally can't play any games when they run that slow. Just not enjoyabl...

That's true if you already own a good PC there is little point in this, that is of course unless Valve can somehow make the hardware for people cheaper than you can build it for yourself..

highly doubtful.

Personally i don't care if they don't, the games they make are way better than others.

I can't wait for Source 2 and HL3, L4D3 to come, hopefully this means it will come next year to PC.

it's a PC, which is my favorite and best gaming platform.

You do know FPS games were born on PC's and they control best on KB and mouse right?. Give me a mid-high end PC any day over a console for FPS games.

Consoles are ok for adventure/party games though.

Also Valve make much better games than other console games like Halo and COD and the same old crap, Half Life owns both.

I miss the late 90's and early 2000's of PC gaming to be honest.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Soldier of Fortune 2.. both had great multiplayer, hell it was a blast when i first got broadband all that time ago, 128k and 256k way better than dial up and games were very playable with pings of below 80.

Not only that, but DLC or (add on content) at that time was completely free. As it should be.

Plus SOF2 online multi completely owned c...
