That's true, though I'd say raytracing is still not quite there yet so it's more of a demo atm, I had my first SSD in 2009 however.. and even the early ones made a huge difference to overall system performance.

@WireMucks 1/3rd of the price is complete rubbish, and as I said a fair comparison would be when next gen CPUs and GPUs arrive by summer, because that's closer to the timeframe that the new consoles will arrive. How do you expect to do a fair comparison right now when the new consoles aren't likely to be out until Q3/Q4 next year?

"Half the price with the same horsepower"

Try comparing more fairly, like when Zen 3 and Nvidia 3000 series cards are out by summer. Plus last gen Zen 2 CPUs and other GPUs will also be cheaper.

Hopefully that means the next gen 3000 series cards are a proper leap in performance, not like the RTX 2000 cards.

A 3070 should be nice for the money and hopefully at least 2080Ti level perf, but we'll see.

Yes the Havok Physics in HL2 are still pretty good today, which says a lot about the Source engine considering it was released in 2004. There should be a lot better to come soon.

Buying a 16 core processor for gaming is just dumb, anyone with sense would get a 6/8 core chip, then upgrade when the new faster ones come out by Summer. And save even more by getting a 2070S or 2080 GPU and then sell that when the 3000 series arrives around Summer too, then pick up like a 3070 or something.

You can build a top notch gaming system quite a lot cheaper than this.

I liked what I saw, except I'm not sure of one thing from the other gameplay I've seen, what's up with the camera angle being kind of sideways looking? The other games were front view.. just seems kind of off putting.

Yes, i wonder if Source 2 uses similar physics? Havok was and still is quite decent for a physics engine, now Valve are using Rubikon so i guess we'll find out soon.

FEMFX looks to be something that game creators can easily put into their games, and this uses the CPU over Nvidia Gameworks which usually tanks performance and uses the GPU.

Looks like interaction in games is going to go up a lot soon.

I think the next gen consoles will probably be decent value for money, no doubt they will have good performance and graphics for a little while. Nvidia cards are currently quite overpriced on the PC side, AMD ones are decent at the mid range with the 5700XT.

We've yet to see the next gen 3000 series from NV yet though. Not sure what Nvidia are doing with the price/performance, the 900 series was good, the 1000 series was pretty good too, then the prices started getting ...

Nah, PC is more versatile. And you can get more power when you want it, a Nvidia 3070 should be 30-40% quicker than the new Xbox when the new GPUs release by summer. The 2000 series was overpriced from the start, it's about time we got back to decent jumps in performance for better prices like before.

You're getting downvotes but what you said is pretty much fact.

There's articles out there showing games like Rise of the Tomb Raider among others hitting 53FPS minimums on a 2080Ti at 4K resolution: https://www.tomsguide.com/u... The PS5/Xbox series x GPU are both said to be similar to each other, both are going to be around 40% or so slower than that 20...

The size should be easy to judge since the controller is in the screenshot, looks about a foot tall give or take a little. The cooler is probably a square shape as well, Zen 2 chips need decent ish cooling so maybe that's where the bulk of the size comes from.

That said though the stock coolers for the PC chips are rather small and are clocked quite a bit higher than the next gen consoles.. so probably designed that way just for decent airflow overall. Even if they used...

Think I would've preferred a game like was shown on the TV there.. At least it would be different to the usual.

2242d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

Guessing it needs to be this size because of the cooler for heat dissipation, that said though the CPU in these next gen consoles are still clocked more than 1Ghz slower than equivalent current PC chips.

Guess that means no speech about the other games they're working on?

I'm a huge fan of the series too, played L4D2 as soon as it came out on Steam. A sequel has been needed for years tbh, there's so much more that can be done with it, a new game would probably make the first 2 look almost bare in terms of stuff going on.

I hope Valve makes it accessible to all players, not just VR, for player base sake at least.

2243d ago 3 agree0 disagreeView comment

VR is not the problem, it's whether the game can be played by VR and none VR players is the question. Alienating players from a multiplayer game would be a mistake unless they want a small online player base.. Which I'm guessing they don't.

2243d ago 6 agree2 disagreeView comment

@SolidGear3 if Valve has any sense a new L4D would be both a VR and none VR game in one, whether that's VR players playing with none VR players or a separate VR mode I don't know.. I think they would cut off too many players multiplayer wise if it were VR only. I mean it is really a MP only game, I know you can play with bots but lets be honest that gets boring after a little bit.

2243d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

Except it's not going to be just "one game" there's more titles Valve are working on.. It's debatable that they'll all just be VR though, I think making a VR only L4D will be a mistake.

One of the things Valve said before was that they don't like the "walled garden" or something, of consoles and prefer the freedom of PC.

It obviously will be a lesser experience on consoles but we'll see what happens.
