Although I'm the last one to complain when ND delivers yet another technical masterpiece, the polish isn't because of love, it's because of long crunch time, way longer and harder than at many other developers.
And it would have been amazing if they tried to do it with a new IP. The fact that it hit so hard was only because of the established values and characters from the first game. Yes, it evoked strong reactions but being able to do that doesn't make it great. It makes it memorable, but in this case for all the wrong reasons.
I agree, it's a technical masterpiece. But best narrative? And the lack of proper criticism about its weaker points are rarely mentioned. So we're getting beaten with praise constantly about it. It's tiresome when the game has obvious flaws.
Didn't deserve it though. Bit tired of seeing the same bs excuses though. Didn't like it = automatically didn't play. Sure because everyone who played it loves it. It's this pushing of your opinion is what's infuriating. And this: look at how many awards TLOU2 won, isn't it the greatest is just putting wood on the fire.
Wow, look at you guys. Just because you think it's so makes it true. You can chalk yourselves up as game journalists...
It was predictable TLOU2 would win GOTY for the journo's. They really want to stick it to those that didn't like it, it does seem. Just look at all the other wins it got, many of which it didn't deserve. Oh well, just as long as the media keeps telling themselves this is 2020's greatest, it must be so...
TLOU2 is not a must have. If anything, not playing it ensures the TLOU franchise doesn't get tarnished in one's experience.
@Knushwood Butt - And very present female leaders/strong figures, so on paper it should have been protested by those not liking agenda being shoved down their throats. But you know why? Because it executed it in a natural way, so even with all the political input, it didn't impact the experience. TLOU2 did not succeed the same way. Convenient coincidences and the opinion of 100 individuals that care more about pushing their own opinion than actually doing their jobs - reviewing games - do...
The issue isn't that people like the game. It's the opinion (or "fact" as they call it) of those that do like the game, claiming it's a masterpiece with little to no faults. This general view is what irks those like me, who obviously see the quality it delivers, as much as its lesser parts.
At the end of the day, it IS a divisive game, just as Neil intended. And as for all the praise it got, there's a considerable amount of people who were left agg...
@TheGoodestBoi - and that exactly is the main issue with this game's defenders. Your opinion is not objective, let alone fact. If you were, you would see that although it's a game that does many things on a whole new level, its flaws certainly can't be minimized, as they severly impact the experience.
LOL tlou2 being gotg :)
Technical yes, but overrated as hell story wise. It wasn't mature, it was just bad story telling. Great that ND went with the story they wanted to tell and admittedly did something rarely tried in gaming. Too bad the execution was bad, yet they all continued to pat themselves on the back, as if it's the greatest thing ever conceived.
That's why it's important to have someone with a critical view speak out within a ...
It goes both ways - it could be a warning against trying a subpar game. Or, like in quite a few cases media outlets docked it too many points for small imperfections. I'm also looking forward to playing Vampyr.
Ps fanboys: it's MS exclusive, so it will suck
Ms fanboys: it's MS exclusive, so it will be awesome
I see the images and don't think anyone can tell the final game's quality from them. It suppose it has potential to be something great. If MS can pump out enough interesting exclusives, I might consider getting an Xbox next gen.
Once in a lifetime because unlike the first game, most that pick this up will never play it again. So in that regard, the article is quite spot on.
Not applicable for the 2nd game.
Nice to see that it's getting a sequel so quickly. Guess the "thick thighs" and "where are her organs" controversies started by non-gamers couldn't hurt the 1st game's stride.
Do you guys even know who you're agreeing with?
Maybe look up his gameplay from Doom Eternal or Cuphead.
A casual gamer would be embarassed to have their name linked to those "gameplay" captures.
It's as shameful that someone of his "skill" can be a "professional" games journalist.
It's like trusting someone who's never/rarely driven a car with in-depth car reviews.
