i know exactly how you feel, whooop.
even i found myself slowly being affected by reviews, then i thought: "who cares what these people that *AREN'T me think of this game? all i know is *I want to play it!"
ever since most of my trusted reviewers (most of the old US OPM staff had very, *VERY similar tastes to me, but in the last two years of it's run, they all quit, and the new guys were clearly from the "Halo Generation"), left the writing in...
reviewers get paid to review a game.
how can they, in good conscious, review a game if they haven't *COMPLETED it?
my opinion is that reviewers *RUSH THROUGH these games to get their reviews out on time, and to beat all the other thousands of sites doing the same thing to the punch.
as a result, they aren't really giving these games their fair due.
i beat God of War in 10 hours. i felt satisfied with the game, and that length.
...and Naughty Dog themselves even *SAID that they were considering continuing the Jak and Daxter series, but they wanted to take a break, and try something new, hence, Uncharted.
i'm *POSITIVE they'll continue one of the Playstation's best-selling franchises in the future. hell, who knows, they may even do an Insomniac, and release a title every year: this year, Uncharted, next year, Jak: Lost Frontier, the next year, Uncharted 2, the next year, Jak Lost Frontier 2.

have any of you guys seen footage of Haze that *WASN'T off-camera?
the game is by no means up their with a lot of the games with $20 Million budgets, but the pedigree of the studio making the game is rock-solid.
it's amazing how the young forget gems like Golden Eye, Perfect Dark, and Timesplitters.
i guess a developers previous contributions to gaming don't count anymore, eh?
so i guess, Halo 3, MGS4, FFXIII, Ratchet and Clank Futur...
dual analog setup, no rumble, USB connection.
worked perfectly fine. i could even browse the cross-media bar. the only downside, was after i was done testing it out, i had to manually eject the disc to go back to the main menu. ahh, it was like the good old days, when you had to get off the couch every once in a while.
god bless that "Home" button.
i used my PC pad to test it out, and it works really well, unfortunately, there are a lot of gameplay mechanics that require you to yank the controller around. the only real plus, is that the dragon will immediately turn left or right with the analog sticks.
i've gotten used to the motion controls, and they aren't as @sstacular as people have made it out to be. i'm liking the game so far, though it hasn't changed from that 6.5-7 rating i gave it in another post.
...
is averaging a "C" at worst.
remember, 50% is considered average. Lair is at the, roughly 60% mark, so it's a "C".
on topic: how many positive reviews does this game need to get in order to convince some of you haters that it's a *GOOD FRICKING GAME??
i mean, jesus, there are been, like two or 3 reviews that fall into the 6-7 category, but at least 10 reviews that have fallen in to the 8-9 category.
some of you pe...
i went on this tirade here on news for gamers a few weeks ago about Level 5 not getting the credit it deserves, but i refrained from making any Square-Enix comparisons.
i actually *AGREE with the title of this story, and think Level 5 is a *GREAT developers of rpgs. so far, what i've played from them (the two Dark Clouds and Rogue Galaxy; ogling the DQ8 graphics), and from what i've *SEEN of them (haven't gotten hands on Jeanne D' Arc yet, and White Knight Story looks *GREAT),...
based off of the scores of 9 reviews, from, what i can gather, respected sources.
Play - 100/100
GamePro - 90/100
Game Informer - 88/100
Cheat Code Central - 84/100
Game Revolution - 83/100
EGM - 83/100
1up - 80/100
Game Daily - 80/100
ign - 70/100
i'm sorry, i'm just not seeing the "HUGE NUMBER of 7's, 6's and what not that some of you haters are speaking of.
if the little fan sites that...
but here are my impressions of the game so far.
Graphics and Presentation: 9/10 - i'm playing the game on my Samsung 40" 720p LCD, and the game is drop dead gorgeous. It took a few minutes for me to realize that the opening cinematic was *INGAME and not CGI. there were some framerate issues during an air combat training segment, but so far, no other issues with the framerate. the voice-acting is average, at best, and laughably bad at worst. the rest of the sound is pretty ...
according to one of the posters, they gave Resistance a 7/10.
i'm sorry, it just seems like me and those in the UK just *AREN'T on the same page when it comes to what makes a game an 8/10-9/10 and what makes a game a 7/10.
i mean, they gave *SINGSTAR a *NINE/TEN!!
different strokes for different folks.
Warhawk, is universally fun. you'd have to not have a pulse to find that game fun.
Lair, has always struck me as a 7/1...
the PS3 is indeed a monster...
no, i really mean it. i think there's some kind of organic, living being, resistant to extreme heat and cold that lives inside of the gigantic chasis.
it explains why it tried to bite me when i put in the Warhawk disc the other day...
unfortunately, it doesn't have a resistance to thermometers.
good to know.
me, a self-professed *HATER of online gaming, loves this game.
me and my roommate both played the f*ck out of it today, and we're taking a break now.
hands down, this is probably the most fun i've had playing a game online.
i'm not big into games like Halo and Resistance, because the first person perspective gives me a headache (which sucks, because i *LOVE Resistance otherwise).
we're actually going to put a limit to *WHEN we play W...
all you fanboys ever do is *B*TCH! about *EVERYTHING!
does it honestly, truly tear you to shreds to learn that developers are using the technology offered with the PS3 to it's benefit.
if the 360 was using Blu Ray also, not a single one of you dissenters would be batting an eye at this information.
yes, Heavenly Sword, at it's current state, would *NOT be possible on a DVD9. that is simply a fact.
or are you able to put 10gigs of unc...
there was no "game" there, just a bunch of images designed to give off a tone, or feeling, of what the final game is supposed to invoke in the player. "mysticism," "enlightenment," etc.
when i worked at Obsidian Entertainment, there was a project that they were trying to sell to a publisher (i won't say what, or who, as the game hasn't been announced yet), so they put together this cool mock-up, featuring footage from all sorts of movies and what n...
i agree. they expect too much.
hopefully, some of these PS3 owners will try the game out for themselves (the demo is short, but i played it a few times yesterday, and i actually took the time to learn some of the combos, and had a ball, though i decimated everyone so quickly; i actually had to hold back a bit), and see if it's their thing.
my take on it, is that if you like God of War, this is a nice stop-gap to God of War 3, which won't be out for at least anoth...
this game is becoming less like Marmite, and more like "bitter fanboys that have a bone to pick with Sony, and are taking it out on a promising title instead."
there were, what, *TWO reviews in the 6's and 7's, and, so far, *FIVE or *SIX in the 8's and 9's?
now, i'm not one to put too much stock in reviews in general, but i'm beginning to think that some of the reviewers (such as Edge), are just a little too hoity toity and angry.
yes, So...
i haven't seen a release date, just the four or five interviews Phil Harrison has done since the game was revealed back in March, where he states, repeatedly, that there will be a fall, PSN release of the title, and a spring 2008, Blu Ray release.
i think even one of the developers in one of the walkthrough vids talks about the PSN release this fall being a "demo/game," where all the elements are there (level editing, platforming, enemies, etc), so the community can b...
i am *SO there.
i can't wait for November.
it's a shame how this game has fallen off of so many people's radar, despite impressive presentations like this one. just another example of how the media can blow something so far out of proportion that it will negatively impact what is otherwise a promising-looking product.
i really, *REALLY like this game, though a part of me knows i shouldn't.
the game isn't Spider-Man 3 on PS3 ( a 5/10 game), and it certainly isn't up there with a Resistance or Heavenly Sword (8/10-9/10), but it's fun.
i'm glad i bought it, actually.
the story is cool, even if the voice acting isn't very good, and flying around on the dragon is actually enjoyable, especially once you get the hang of how it moves, and learn to compensate.
