i was like, who put survival horror in my FPS? lol
these kinds of decisions are difficult.
but i imagine they are even harder for the guy that DOESN'T have either.
i mean, look at it this way; consumer Joe walks into the store, looking to get in on all this HD hoopla. he's already bought the HDTV, so now he's looking for a console to show it off.
on one hand, you have the X Box 360.
it's top games are:
Bioshock
Gears of War
Halo 3
Mass Effect
Eternal Sona...
my thoughts so far?
Graphics: Good. not great. not phenomenal, but not god awful. there are infinitely worse games out there (ie, Turok, Conflict, etc). something i noticed: the entire game is anti-aliased. no jaggies anywhere. the jungles and beach levels are really nice looking. not Uncharted levels, but certainly not too shabby on my 40" 720p Samsung.
Controls: Great. smooth as silk. Free Radical is respected for quite a few things; two of which are rock soli...
(the first being Uncharted: Drake's Fortune), but i never finished the game on the 360.
since i don't own it on the 360 (i was playing my roommate's copy), i'll be picking it up on the PS3.
great game.
of your statement and avatar are not lost on me...
games Free Radical has made (Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Timesplitters 1-3, Second Sight), they make ONE GAME that is less than perfect, and suddenly it's "wtf happened to Free Radical??OMFG!"
i have a question: wtf happened to RARE?
sadly, i didn't get Haze today (guess it comes out tomorrow), but i have to say that i'm surprised at how many people think anything less than a 9 or 10 is a bad game.
these days, people think an 8.5 is a rental. what...
i have to say, i find it really, REALLY funny, that so many people on this site have taken it upon themselves to bash the reviewers about giving, say, GTAIV 10/10 after having played the game for themselves, and deeming the game not 10/10 material, but they are so quick to BELIEVE and trust those VERY SAME REVIEWERS when they give a game like Haze a 4-6/10, DESPITE HAVING NEVER TOUCHED THE GAME THEMSELVES!
it's hilarious. it really is.
my advice to those that were in...
have you played any of those games for longer than 5 minutes?
because I HAVE, and my conclusions:
Lair: great graphics, good story, hampered by forced motion controls which are good, but an analog option should have been the default. i'd give it a 7.5/10. add .5-1 points with analog control support.
Haze: i've only played the demo, and based off of that, i'd give it a 7.5/8 out of ten. the controls are silky smooth, as is the framerate (something Free Ra...
that f*cking MADE Goldeneye, right?
if anyone deserves to compare his prior work to his latest work, it's him.
as i'm at work, and haven't picked up the game yet, but i'll wait until i get my hands on the game MYSELF, instead of blindly following what ANOTHER PERSON says i should feel about the game.
i enjoyed the demo. me and my fiance had a great time playing it last night, and she's agreed to playing through the full game with me tonight.
considering that IGN has given harsh scores to games that i've personally enjoyed (ie, Lair, Heavenly Sword, etc), i'll play it for myse...
can't we ALL agree that that was a pretty poorly written review?
i mean, i could have put a review like that together based off of the articles i've read, and the demo i played.
it didn't go into ANYTHING significant about the game.
for example:
how were the controls?
how was the framerate?
were there any interesting characters or quirks?
how were the vehicular segments?
aside from the standard in damn near EVERY FPS ...
what the year one lineup for the Playstation 2 was?
i do, and it blew chunks.
at least with the Playstation 3's first year, we got:
Resistance: Fall of Man*
Motorstorm*
Virtua Fighter 5*
Ninja Gaiden Sigma**
The Darkness
Call of Duty 4
Warhawk*
Heavenly Sword*
Folklore*
Oblivion
Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction*
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune*
Unreal Tournament 3**
...
thank GOD you don't work in the gaming industry...
lol.
i kid, i kid.
but really, thank god...
that RPGs take a LONG time to develop.
not many AAA RPG titles are ever released during a system's first year.
hell, Final Fantasy X on the PS2 didn't appear until 2, 2+ years after the PS2 released.
i think people also forget that the Playstation 3 HAS NOT been out for as long as the 360.
it's still approaching it's second birthday.
long development period for RPGs, plus console only being 1.5 years old, and it equals: you won'...
Free Radical hasn't made a game that i haven't enjoyed yet.
i was just replaying Second Sight, and that game is so underrated it's unbelievable.
i loved the Timesplitters titles also.
i'll be picking up Haze tomorrow, now that i've made GTAIV my b*tch, and i'm looking for a nice in between game to take my mind off of the 4 weeks until i slip MGS4 into my PS3 (am i the only one who thought that last parted sounded dirty?)
also, am i the only ...
Mario Spin offs (excepting Smash Bros)
Tony Hawk (just needs to die already)
Medal of Honor (ironically enough, European Assault was pretty good, but the damage had already been done)
Madden (just go every other year, so the fans of football can get some REAL improvements to the franchise, instead of the tiny, yearly increments and hardly noticeable graphical upgrades)
Activision Marvel licensed games (seriously, can you imagine if companies like Insomniac, Bungie, Bio...
i played Crysis on moderate settings, because i was curious to see if the gameplay could stand minus the graphics.
i came to the conclusion that Crysis is a typical FPS with amazing graphics.
graphics ARE important, don't get me wrong. they are vital to setting the tone and atmosphere of a video game.
and it's not like Crysis' gameplay is terrible. just standard.
i don't think it deserved the hype it got, but it most certainly deserved the k...
is that these guys get to play these games EVERY. DAY.
i've been a game tester for over 4 years, and after playing a game for 8 hours a day, 5 to 6 days a week, for 4-6 months STRAIGHT, you tend to learn the game like the back of your hand.
how long has Killzone 2 been in development? 4 years?
how many times do you think this guy has gone through this particular level, in that 4 years?
for example, i tested Doom 3 on the X Box for a few mont...
i may have to take a trip over to where they're testing the game, just to give it a look see.
i'm a child of the 80's, so, naturally, i grew up wanting to be a Ghostbuster.
i've been waiting for this game for a long time, and while i'm not expecting it to do anything revolutionary, i'm just hoping it's a damn good Ghostbusters game. the fact that the fabulous foursome are all reprising their rolls has me even MORE stoked for it.
regardless of it's qualit...
popping up some popcorn and getting curled up in the blankets for this one!
hot damn i love Metal Gear!
i was doing pretty good in terms of keeping my excitement level, but as the day draws closer, i'm starting to feel the fever. i've been trying to pass the time with some of the games i've picked up, as well as replaying the original MGS series (i'm still playing MGS right now, then i'll move onto MGS2 this weekend, and finish MGS3 by the time 4 hits).
