I worked for EB/Gamestop back in the day and sometimes we'd get games that were refurbished (and a lot of systems), but most of the time we just took what came in, and if it looked good, we put it on the shelf. Occasionally some defective stuff came in and we'd send it away... or throw it out depending on the title (sports games, mostly).
Quiet goatface :P
Awesome to see Dead Space: Ultra Limited Edition on the list, because I've got one on my game shelf. It's a nice special edition.
Never heard of the guy. My first thought on seeing "has written for IGN, Gamasutra, and 16 other sites" was "what,in the comments?"
You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar... I think a bit of diplomacy on Mr. Fish's part would pay off in spades, both in terms of getting a bit of special treatment for a critically-acclaimed game, and in terms of die-hard gamers who don't appreciate acerbic personalities before the developer has become very firmly established (and even then it takes a special type to pull off arrogance and still be accepted).
Pretty good list, although as a child of the arcades, everyone my age played Primal Rage when it came out. The cabinet for it was huge and the graphics and sound, for the time, were really impressive... plus it was bloody.
1. No one begrudges companies that thrive on original ideas and quality productions; Zynga's leadership has openly stolen ideas and made terrible games. I can be angry at them for that.
2. Yes there are jobs on the line, and I think we all hope that the developers land on their feet if that were to happen. However, I believe the anger, like most anger, is directed at the unethical leadership of the company, not the average employee.
Good. They make horrible games & sell customer information.
I got a rock.
Games don't get me in the mood to do the killing, but CNN articles do.
Wow. You're a bag of shit... excellent troll, but still a steaming bag of shit.
It totally does for me. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will cement my write-in vote for a third Richard Nixon term.
Either Grand Theft Auto IV (despite being an amazing technical achievement, I couldn't stand the constant interruptions and penalties from my digital "friends") or Modern Warfare II (hated the ridiculous plot).
I got big into PC gaming over the past year and a half, and even though there are Steam achievements and the Games for Windows ones, I don't even look at them except when I get a notification, and then it's like "oh, ok."
When they were first out I thought they were just a pissing contest, then I got into collecting them, and now I just ignore them and play the game. It took about 7 years, but they don't really matter to me anymore.
Given I've missed some great preorders from them in the past and from other companies more recently (still weeping over Borderlands' loot chest), I think I'm gonna go get this while I can.
Took long enough... I'm looking forward to playing it through again, though. Definitely one of my favorite games this gen.
"because of greed or piracy concerns, no major publisher or developer is trying to change this."
Valve called.
That weird polygon head thing they used as a mascot for a while.
I worked at EB Games a few years ago and other than having to push a lot of services down people's throats (though our manager wasn't as nuts about it as other stores), it wasn't a bad place to work. We got lots of freebies and other than the usual holiday hell that any retail establishment faces, it was a pretty chill environment.
