What's the point of truly taking advantage of BR when developers are simply copying duplicate data over to decrease seek times? Sure the disc exceeds 9GB, but not in the way we gamers benefit from with the long sought: "bigger and longer games". Sony should have just released the PS3 with a 4x Drive. Mandatory installs exist because most 3rd Party developers can't grasp the 2x BR Drive. Not everyone can be like Naughty Dog except the truly-dedicated like Guerrilla Games. And well......
Bubbles for the Youtube Link. Very informative!!
SHUT THE FRONT DOOR! *grins*
Square-Enix is starting to notice that they can't get away with shovelware forever. Or maybe they're also starting to realize that they're just not cut out for making jRPGs anymore. IMO FFX was the last great FF.
lol man. +bubbles.
10. I don't think a girl is hot just from looking at her avatar. I think that's actually a dumb thing and really short-sighted of the Avatar system.
9. I don't use the CAPS LOCK button at all. And I rarely capitalize my WORDS to get a point across. I feel that if my words are strong, then I've no need to aesthetically do anything else other than proper punctuation and grammar.
8. I couldn't care less if anyone messes up the NA-System or JP-System of the FF Numbering ...
Yup, pretty much. The only thing that applies to me on there is using the word "fanboy" -mind you I use it VERY occasionally, if not at all. My comments history proves this.
What the bloody ****?! I thought the 21 min install for Gears 1 was long but 2 HOURS?!?!
Goddamn...
Who does SETI@Home anymore? Folding@Home is allz the RAGE!
But I kid. I bet a day with these machines would cost a small fortune in electricity. I would love to have one of these babies transcode some security feeds for me on-the-fly, so that I don't have to spend time archiving it myself. I can automate the whole process!!!
*and then the supercomputer became self-aware".
I do admit that I would've been pissed if Kojima admitted MGS4 on 360 because I feared that the DVD-9 storage would've hampered the overall experience. A terrible loss for MGS fans everywhere. A friend of mines who only owns a 360 also wanted MGS4 to stay PS3-Exclusive for this very reason.
However, the Act-Installs aren't any better IMO. Bottlenecks exist for both sides. 9GB Game space for 360, Slow 2x BR Drive and Mandatory Installs for PS3. Don't get me wrong, Idiot911: I agre...
Ahh yes, 100% agreed. The way Lost Odyssey was packaged was simply unacceptable. Still, having 4 discs for a game does look good in my CD-wallet.
+bubbles for being above fanboyism.
You know, there are games that are already exceeding the DVD-9 Limit: I posted this in another article...humm...
Ninja Gaiden Sigma - 11.34GB
Enchanted Arms - 15.02GB
Blazing Angels 2 Secret Missions of WWII - 12.82GB
Lair - 22.9GB
Resistance: Fall of Man - 15.45GB
The Darkness - 18.88GB
Metal Gear Solid 4 - 31.6GB
Motorstorm - 14.4GB
The Elder Scrolls' IV: Oblivion - 14.4GB
-Whether or not BR is needed is up for debate...
Do you have proof that PS3 development is significantly cheaper than 360 development? If I recall, most devs have agreed that PS3 development is significantly more challenging: hence the sloppy ports and delayed MP games. The most I heard from Sony central is that Playstation Edge seeks to help ease developer pains. SO far: it's looking good since more recent MP games are starting to shape up like the 360 version neck-to-neck, which is great for us gamers that prefer Mirror's Edge on the PS3....
Exactly. People are so caught up in this console war, they can't sit back and appreciate things for what it is. SO3 comes out on 3 DVDs, so what? Doesn't mean we can't play em. And the minor inconvenience is only 7-20 seconds and a small risk of permanently damaging a DVD. The same can be said about PS3 and Mandatory Installs. A small inconvenience of waiting 7-20 min for the benefit of having only one game per disc.
If improvements can be made, then so be it. But I advise everyo...
Most likely because the average "gamer" has evolved to the point that video games aren't the only requirements for a worthy console/handheld. This gen, we are starting to embrace media entertainment just as much as gaming since the two come pretty close together when objectively comes to the point of "entertainment". As a straight up gamer, I'd pick the DS anyday. However the PSP: you can do so much more with it and that really warrants price of the handheld. I'm guessing ...
Agreed, Can you imagine what life would be like now if Firefox never existed and brought forth to the mainstream the good-ness that is "open-source"?
I probably hate the Wii more than you(being a former owner), but please keep those comments out of the Gamer Zone.
In these hard times, as consumers: all we can do is take advantage of those deals.
Some good PS3 games are using BR (somewhat), although not in the way I'd expect it of bigger "more content": just simply "Bigger" - probably to accompany the bigger space in audio or whatever.
If you take Linux and look at the contents of the disc: you'll see the following games exceed the 8-9GB space. I wouldn't say that it puts DVD-9 out of existence, but it's clear that BR's space is being used somewhat and indeed warrants its own existence.

Yah, apparently people don't know how to read, nor do some homework. If it was me, I'd hope for a Crash Bandicoot costume in R2 sometime in the future. How cool would that be?
