actually sony's record label makes them loads of money, the mobile phones unit has plenty of success. Their cameras yes make them money but so does the film studio. PS3 backwards compatability via software is always going to be incredibly hard if not nigh impossible.

I think when you take off the cost of maintaining abd running the servers, the cost of paying 3rd party devs and publishers to have their content on there for periods of time, the cost of making 1st party games for it etc no it probably isn't profitable and I have no idea where you go the 300 million a month revenue figure from?

Um no one's going todo that because the ps3 servers are dead, you can still download content you own you just can't buy new content. Pretty sure MS discontinued xbox live support for the 360 awhile ago now and I know they did pretty early on for OG xbox games.
If you understand how the pa3 works you would understand why they haven't bothered with backwards compatibility compatibility only realistic way due to how it handled memory in particular is to put the pa3's Chipset in the ps4/5. they literally patched this issue a week after launch.... and the games causing issues also got patches resolving the matter. MY ps5 spends most of it's time in rest mode when not in use.
