Spiderman was a deal that arose after marvel games approached Sony and asked them to make a marvel game promising them exclusivity rights if they did. They wanted a high quality game to help push the brand in the gaming space and concluded Sony was best placed to provide this. Sony went to insomniac and insomniac chose spiderman.

It couldn't be a reaction to activision because it was a deal in the work months 1/3rd of thet cost is apparently staff retention which means contracts for 4-5 years were negotiated and agreed with key staff members so the deal would have taken months to sort out.

Apparently 1/3rd of the money is for staff retention on a 4-5 year contract. So clearly part of this was they wanted the staff and their knowledge as much as the company and the games.

Possible but not at all set in stone. Polyphony digital are meticulous with their work and may not want another studio handling a pc port. If they have the resources to port gt7 to pc, continue to support gt7 with new content the way they have gt sport and start their next project is questionable.

They aren't exactly charging you for next gen upgrades above and beyond what you'd pay if you bought the next gen version. Ps4 version 60 dollars, ps5 version 70 dollars. If you buy pa4 version then want the pa5 one you pay the difference of 10bdollars. Think that is more reasonable isn't it than charging all those ps4 players with no ps5 and no plans to get one soon- an extra tenner making the upgrade 'free' but the inferior version of the game the same price as the supe...

Not true at all. If you have a disc copy of a game on PlayStation you do not have to play online. You could in theory buy a ps5 and never connect it to the Internet and it will still work. Unlike an xbox one. Individual games may require you to be online but that is down to the developer You can choose to go digital only on PlayStation but digital is not forced upon you.

Omg all this nonsense about Jim Ryan. Firstly he clearly does care about games. He's worked for playstationnsince before the ps1 launched and helped get that launch organised in Europe and helped acquire third and second party support for the ps1, ps2 and ps3. You don't work in gaming for that long and not care about games. Secondly he hasn't actually lied. The free upgrades I watched the show and with the initial exception of horizon all the titled that were listed as having free...

It's simple on xbox theybare either Trying to get games to subscribe to games pass or most of their titles have lower sales than a game like uncharted. So a free upgrade has greater capacity to drive new sales. With uncharted 4 that's no really an option so in order to recoup costs you have to charge. And yes you could argue it sold well so why bot just give it free as you made money anyway on the original. The response to this is simple really. It sold so well because of its quality ...

The other company you refer to is also basing its business model off a subscription service primarily so most people don't even own games on their platform anymore.

It depends in this instance they've also increased LoD noticeably, reworked the colour scheme and contrast, improved most textured it appear although the improvement isn't always too noticeable and ported the whole engine from ps4 to ps5 in order to have a native ps5 application that takes advantage of the SSD for loading it literally loads In instantly unlike the minute+ load times when you first startup on ps4 or switch level etc. Then they have also added haptic support and whilst ...

Erm horizon is like 4 years old and they gave it away for free during the pandemic... twice to anyone with a psn account.

Almost everyone that was going to buy these games already did there is almost no none to be made selling this full price. So to recoup fev costs on a game that was a bestselling title and sold really well you have no choicebut to charge an upgrade. Coukd be worse pretty sure the gtav remaster has no upgrade path just expects you to repurchase it again for 70 quid.

@orchard you paid the subscription fee for online primarily and secondly for the many titles they give away f...

It's rather simple. Metro:exodus sold OK, it having a free upgrade near beginning of this gen a year and a half ago now- made it more attractive to new console owners and perhaps boosted sales meaning it pays for itself. Meanwhile uncharted 4 and lost legacy both sold loads. Almost anyone who was going to buy it already has and then loads more have it via ps plus and played it through and aren't going to buy it just for an upgrade like this. Thus to make up for the cost of the dev tim...

"I had ps plus since before they gave away free games" hmm I've had ps plus literally since it originally launched and it's always given away free games... so that would be very hard.

Yes. As you could on the ps3.

The fact it sold less than uncharted 4 is what makes a free upgrade more viable as it will actually boost sales.

Probably because the last of us 2 launched less than 6 months before ps5 released. To remaster this they had to reopen code that was 4/5 years since it had been closed and put to bed. That's alot more work.
