Good choice, I also wouldn't mind seeing the original Suffering on Xbox Originals, all the kick ass games Midway made in the 04 time period didn't sell very well, a second chance would be nice for games like The Suffering and Psi Ops.
The developer of The Suffering (Surreal) is currently working on This is Vegas, so either along side or after its development?
Wii has a bigger install base then the Xbox 360, so does PC yet they didn't do better then the Xbox 360 or PS3. Poor PC, beat out by movie royalties!!!!
The MK team worked hard on this project and its good to see it paid off, the tech to make a fighting game with the Unreal Engine 3 is already in place so here's for a kick ass MK 9!
Midway's Net Revenue in 2008 was somewhere near $110 million, they definitely did better than previous years and it's definitely a start on the long road to recovery.
Exactly, if Midway's previous owners focused on more quality then quantity they might be in a better position. Regardless new management is in and seem to have really enacted policies that greatly differ from the way the Redstone's ran things, hopefully Midway gets out of this and are able to prove naysayers wrong.
At this point, who wouldn't! Although the first game didn't even break a combined total of a million, so its pretty much in limbo.
I personally liked it and am happy to see it was a success for Midway, I hope MK 9 will really reinvent the series in the eyes of many and put MK back on the map for the masses.
I wonder if this will repeat this year, 2008's numbers for Midway completely obliterate anything that came before.
Longer console generations = a wider install base for developers and retailers to make money from, I agree!
I agree, considering the popularity of DC comics at the time it probably helped more people get into Mortal Kombat.
Microsoft has built brand recognition now with the Xbox 360, something they didn't have much of last generation. Now with all these new revenue streams they don't need to worry about releasing first, just within a probable schedule. The Wii (partially) proves people don't care much about graphics, they just want gameplay. It's debatable the power of both the PS3 and Xbox 360 especially when fanboys are around.
If it gives companies a way to make money and ensure jobs, I'm all f...
TNA iMPACT! 2 was mentioned by a few wrestling sites and wrestlers as being in development at Midway, Mortal Kombat 9 was mentioned by Ed Boon and a few PR reps as well. The Newcastle game was talked about by, well the people that work at Midway Newcastle! In the 10-K filing they only mention 1 unannounced title is being worked on yet it's already been proven 3 are already being worked on. Did that make sense?
I don't know if this number includes the Kollectors Edition since it wasn't include in previous numbers either. Gamestop even said the Kollector's edition was the better selling of the two "sku's". If that is the case then it would have sold well over 2 million and is the most successful Mortal Kombat game in a while.
TNA iMPACT! was a new series that could have gone either way, from what I recall it sold pretty well on both next gen platforms. Even Mortal Kombat vs. DC sold evenly across both platforms, I guess it just depends on the install base and the quality of the final game.
People were saying the 360 was maxed out with Gears 2 and the cry teck guys are running a engine capable of so much more on the console. Don't believe everything bedroom commentaters tell you, even if it's maxed out so what? The PS2 definitely wasn't the strongest console last generation and look at it now. If the install base and attach ratio is big why not make games for it?
I didn't know wifi was needed for longevity, I guess the wifi adapter in the PS3 is the reason Killzon...
For once, I agree with you! Even the original Xbox saw releases well into 2007, even 2008 had a few.
Just because a successor may come out doesn't mean games will stop being made for it. Look at the original Xbox, 2006 was a great year for it, 2007 had a few games come out, even 2008 saw the release of a small handful of games for the console.
MK vs. DC was not a bad game, especially considering the restrictions by both DC and the ESRB it was a pretty good game.
And FYI, this is worldwide,
So do I, The Force Unleashed is basically a tech demo screaming out to Midway "MAKE ME MIDWAY, MAKE ME!"
Brand recognition just in general, how many consumers would really buy "the new guy"? Next generation the Xbox will have more recognition among the masses much like the Playstation brand, in the long run that will really help you out.
Sure RROD is a pain when you get it, but in my day to day gaming I don't worry about it I would never go to buy a game but then reconsider the purchase because of something that might happen. It's like getting shot with a paint ball the ...
