How do you get to see that? I really miss dislikes/likes on YouTube vids.
I think we've definitely hit a point where consoles being released will not be the landmark they once were and we'll just get constant iterations to comparatively little fanfare. If they could get PCs to become a bit more 'living room friendly' Sony could actually have competition.
This time might be even worse because now even the whiff of competition is all but dead. Xbox was always a threat when they announced PS3.... I'm not even sure what 'could' serve as competition now.
I guess the proof of the pudding is in the sales numbers here...but I am scratching my head thinking who the hell will actually be buying this? Personally, I do not feel as though the games being put out this gen are sufficiently 'dragged down' by the original console enough. The PS4 Pro comparatively came out when the PS4 was ABSOLUTELY hitting its upper ceiling in performance with several games simply hitting a ceiling.
The best thing that could happen to videogames is a big fat crash
I always thought the GTA games did a terrific job of bringing forgotten classics to the masses, in a way that for example the Spotify or YouTube Music algorithm simply cannot. One that randomly springs to mind is The Alan Parsons Project 'I Wouldn't Want To Be Like You' , a great song but before GTA V would not generally be known by the younger audience.
I must admit this is far lower than I would expect -- however, I am actually surprised they must get the art...
That is exactly it, investor-led game creation. Perfect way to phrase it.
Gamers are pretty brain-dead but only to a certain level (I mean, they clearly buy into GaaS, mtx etc) but you would have to had been INSANE to think this game would be successful.
That's not true. Fans of a medium like quality and innovation
....big surprise.
Because it represents the soulless, cynical process of videogame creation nowadays, especially those backed by the "live service" model. They are conceived by businesspeople who don't have one bone in their body, and could not care less about videogames as an art form or medium.
And for those who say "welcome to the business world"... Look at Sony and SEGA in the 90s. Ok maybe they were run by business folk but their entire philosophy was based aroun...
It is a cliche to say things look "AI made" but this really does look like it was made by an AI that was fed images/concepts of modern shooters and the forced diversity weirdness that media loves shoving down people's throats
lol!
Where does the "x"-Fall title trope actually come from? I don't know what it means but it seems to be very popular for naming media.
Redfall
Atlas Fall
Babylon's Fall
Daggerfall
Greedfall
Godfall
Titanfall
Skyfall (movie, but still)
Atamfall
You might think I'm being pedantic, but next time you see it... remember this comment!
The apparatus is no longer there. Online service provision and hyper-level data analysis is causing an game companies to chase "market patterns" to an insane level so that they can smooth out earning expectations rather than taking big gambles on really innovative ideas.
The ironic thing is you are so correct. If someone gave enough budget to people wanting to do something really creative I have no doubt people would flock to it as you say.
A game ordered by brainless execs with ZERO insight or creative talent. Just paint by numbers crap, the most cynical I think I've seen.
I remember when the PS1 and Dreamcast were getting big and it was like gaming companies were just firing heaps of money at creative folk and just letting them run wild. It was amazing.
This will go the way of Lawbreakers. It's just a generic grab bag of hero shooter tropes with ZERO original creative flair.
It was probably the apex of "traditional" videogames, before they became a service-based model.
The last "great" console gen imo.
Personally, this gen has not come even close to delivering the goods to even have me moderately interested in a Pro console. To each their own I guess.
Put it this way, I 'would' buy something like a PS5 Pro console, as in I have sufficient disposable income and like videogames enough that I would....
But I am watching this thinking 'why'? My biggest problems with videogames right now has far more to do with an industry bereft of innovation, design and vision. Graphics and all that stuff are absolutely fine. Sony are completely focussing on the wrong things. This is especially disappointing to see at a time...
