I think that everyone should just buy an HDTV, as you really aren't getting your full money's-worth out of your 360 unless you do, I also feel that a game company shouldn't play favorites with its consumers. Although HDTV's are increasingly found in homes, now, SDTV's are still the majority. Point is, other games don't screw the SDTV owners, so why should Capcom's.
Japan as a market share for consoles has dropped off. Europe is twice the size and N. America is over 4 times the size. I agree that ignoring Japan is not smart for business, but Japan is no longer integral for gaining the wordwide lead in market share for consoles.
If a company were to have a significant lead in both Europe and N. America, it would be enough for the overall lead. Also, don't forget about markets like Australia, Korea, etc. These smaller markets could add up.

for you concerning your opinion that the PS2 was flawless.

The other issue that skews the PS2 attach rate numbers is that the PS2 has been out for a long time. Long enough that many of its fanbase have had their PS2s crap out on them after their warranty expired. Therefore they buy a new PS2 (especially since it's cheap now), but already have the games. This skews the attach rate because Sony classifies these new PS2 purchases as new owners to inflate their 'total number of PS2 users' number. This inadvertently makes it look like PS2 owners don't rea...
it could mean that there are some quality games on the 360 that people want to buy. I find it hard to believe that the fact that many games are being purchased for the 360 is a bad thing. This article doesn't make much sense to me. The first adopters of all consoles (or anything for that matter) are usually the hardcore. Casuals wait for price drops, are just slower to adopt, adopt once many of their friends do, wait until they have extra money, etc. 'Casual' consumers will also go for the ch...
You're talking about Resistance as the 16 gig game. So you're saying it has taken advantage of the space?! Explain to me, then, why it has scored lower than 360 games such as Gears, COD2, GRAW, and Oblivion, all of which came out on one DVD (gamerankings.com). The expansion pack for Oblivion was not exluded from the 360 disc for lack of space, as Oblivion took up just more than half of a DVD9. It comes as a download for 360 owners because it was made after the retail version shipped. They cou...
a PS3 News site will make a fanboy comment like "quite a dissappointing substitute". An Xbox site would probably make the same comment. It's a knee-jerk reaction to more bad news for Sony. As someone brought up, only PS3 fanboys and those wanting to sell it on Ebay will wait in line. Most of those won't take the 360 deal. However, if even 1 out of 50 fanboys do take the deal, that's a huge plus for MS. Most of those on the fence (ie. not a fanboy for either system) will buy a 360 th...
It's obvious from your comments that you have no frickin' idea what you're talking about. I play games on a harder difficulty because I'm very good at them. I bet you're the type to play a sports game on the easiest difficulty and then brag to your friends about how you 'go undefeated'. You can play games online with the Core unit. Even the easiest setting of Gears takes at least eight hours for skilled players according to many sources, longer for those unskilled. I don't play any games on e...
who claim to have played Gears, but haven't, you are all full of it. To Bhai....the game doesn't take 6 hours. I'm playing 'Hardcore' and I've already put over 6 hours into it and I haven't even finished act 3. Since you have never played it, I'll fill you in. There are 5 acts, so I'm about half way. Double that and you get at least 12 hours. Since the game is getting harder as I go, I doubt I will finish the second half as quickly as the first. A dozen hours or so is typical for the vast maj...
about fanboys like Weapon X is that they will miss out on so many great things. He talks about how Gears sucks but it's blatantly obvious that he has never played it and won't because he's so close minded. That's sad. Nearly everyone that has played it, including the reviewers which are very harsh (overly so in a lot of cases) on games have said it's the game of the year, best game ever played, etc, etc.
I play it and it is definately the Game of the Year. There are no games th...
religious zealots were bad, but fanboys have become the most close minded people on earth. The fact that someone (ehemm....Bhai) can actually spew something like MS is abandoning its consumers by offering HD downloadable content is simply awe inspiring. The core can be upgraded. Movies can be streamed to the 360 using a PC. PC HDDs can be used for extra 360 storage. If someone wanted more of a multimedia device, they would have bought the premium, not the core. Plus, the core can be upgraded ...
the retail price of the PS3 version of Oblivion?
You get the award for stupidest post I've read in awhile. So let me get this straight. You regret buying the 360 because there are 360 fanboys?! What do fanboys have to do with you using an electronic device in your own home?! I hate to be the guy to break it to you, slappy, but there are fanboys for every game system, every sports team, every political party, every religion, etc. Your best bet, I guess, is to go live in a cave by yourself, with no contact with the outside world.
(14 people) and I know 2 people that have bought a 360 in the past 2 weeks (one 3 days ago) and neither have had a problem. I agree, the bullshit slinging wars seem to be gearing up.
This doesn't mean the PS3 is doomed, but its definately an advantage for the 360. MS is also no slouch when it comes to marketing. They are already taking advantage of the situation and will continue to do so, with bundles, advertising, and specific marketplace attractions.
Nothing comes even close to this game and I just want to play it already. So, I'm done looking at videos until the 8th, when I will have this game snuggly spinning in my 360.
100 million PS2 sold (half of which are replacements) means nothing if the PS3 only sells 20 million. Just because a team wins the superbowl or world cup one year, doesn't mean they'll do it the next. Things change. The PS3 is an entirely different system than the PS2. The PS2 was cheap and was marketed for the masses, the PS3 is expensive and is marketed for a more wealthy audience that happen to be movie buffs. This alone will cause the PS3 to sell less than the PS2. You could go to an inne...
they just have to wait a bit. No big deal. You need to chill out a little, I think. There is no big conspiracy.
MS's 'worldwide' launch covered all three significant markets and then later spread to other smaller markets, like Australia, S. Africa, India, etc. Sony can barely even do 2 of the 3 significant markets. Do you even really consider 100,000 units for the 3rd largest video game market even a launch? What about Europe? They get a sorry goose-egg.
Your chart only shows the first 10 months of the 360's life cycle in the U.S., it's far from over. For a console not made by Sony to have s...
reason why this was funny at the time was due to Sony's arrogance. They continually dismissed the competition as a minor annoyance and this was their first real opportunity to show if the PS3 was as impressive as they said it was. The result, however, was that Sony's press conference was by far the worst in video game history. It was so completely lackluster, yet both MS and Nintendo put on very impressive shows. In the middle of Sony's pathetic, flailing attempt to promote the PS3, you had t...
