that's alright i guess, it's to be expected that each gen promises more than the last. and graphics is usually what devs cross out first on their list.
if japanese gamers don't like the other important things about gaming (like AI and sound) as much, maybe it's because they don't see as much improvement as is easy to see with graphics. it's easy to increase detail and special effects with each new hardware generation since that's what it's for.

mediocre to crappy equals 70 to anything lower than 50. i agree that se is having some issues this gen. blue dragon and lost odyssey are WAY beyond that. so buy mystwalker rpgs if you want to see better.

seriously, i think condemned should rank better. it was pretty gritty, if not for the cheesy cat and mouse game you play with the badguy and a few typical moments.
you can judge the CINEMAS and the GAMEPLAY as being two different things. most cinemas are cliche. i agree with silent hill though, it really pushed some horrific scenes AND gameplay. this is my list:
1: silent hill
2: condemned
3: FEAR
i remember those faceplates that you could buy and i still have the blue one. a navy blue console would look nice with that faceplate, but gears's theme is red. i think halo3's theme was blue, but the halo3 edition console is green and orange/gold.
anyway, at least halo3 got a special 360!
mass effect...it's good that they finally get to recognize that game! it's got an amazing sci-fi story and some impressive gameplay. hopefully they get 2 a little bit sooner than 1.5 years after we get it...we might already be in the next gen by then!
it's the fanboys, the people who are just sore seeing ps3 in 3rd place. they don't want to yield even an inch to microsoft's very commendable showing this gen. it took guts to come back after xbox's failure to actually BEAT sony at its own game. and it wasn't dirty tricks, a disc format, or fancy named hardware that did it. it was 1st rate online gaming and being very well priced.

given that the library is smaller and most of those better rated games took a while to develop it shows that quality must always win over quantity but it won't always sell as well.
now let's talk about a console that isn't hard to develop for and still produces quality games while still being majorly profitable.
