I've recently studied this topic during university, and it pretty much books down to violent media can have a slight negative effect on people with violent tendencies, not solely games.
Its because games are fairly new into mainstream media. Movies and whatnot went through similar debate when initially released.
Why do people always focus on the negative, when there are so many positives in gaming.
Well I know people got Beta keys for buying MOH Warfighter, and I'm pretty sure it's meant to be this year.
I think for some people, when they see advertising or whatever for a real world product, it breaks the realism or connection with the game world, if you get what I mean.
People are reminded about real life, realising they are playing a game, reducing immersion.
But I understand where you are coming from.
If they wanted to keep the whole light combat mechanic, they could mix up the types of light.
Say some enemies can only be damaged by natural light, artificial, UV, or a combination of light and other objects.
Would keep it interesting.
I thought the atmosphere and narrative were top-notch, but fighting enemies got old by the end of the game.
AW2 needs to either add in a more diverse enemy range, or overhaul the combat focus.
Always excited for more Dead Space.
One of the great new IPs to come from EA.
This is the first time I've actually been excited for a new Tomb Raider game.
Really like the look and vibe of the new reboot.
I too am excited for Metro.
I thought the sword techniques were awesome in Revengeance from what I played at the EB Expo, but might get old after a while.
Both two different games IMO and I'll reserve judgement until I play both.
I never even played RE 6.
Lost the interest in the series after playing RE5.
I loved what the originals were all about, not being converted into another action shooter.
The day after my birthday. Guess I know what I'm gonna ask for.
I really think that if FC3 was released a bit earlier, and didn't get snagged by a delay, could well have been GOTY in many more gamer's eyes.
It's an interesting choice, but worthy nonetheless.
Best Stealth Game of the year IMO.
Any chance to shoot zombies in real life sounds cool to me.
I think this will be the start of a new craze, having narrative-based laser shooters.
This still doesn't convince me that the series has changed enough to warrant a purchase when there are so many other great games out at the moment.
Dishonored is by far one of, if not the best new IP of the year, but GOTY? I'm not so sure...
Good on them for being so upbeat, nobody should be put through a farce like this.
You talk about the genre being stale, but you only provide examples from Halo and CoD?
You didn't enjoy Halo as you felt the difficulty was to hard?
You didn't like Halo because you couldn't go off exploring?
Nobody expects to in Halo. You knew what you were getting yourself in for. 343 weren't all of a sudden going to turn the next Halo installment into and adventure/RPG.
Just because it doesn't, doesn...
I see what you're saying here. I personally love Armored Kill, love the massive vehicle battles.
