It may be cheaper in the US because of the yearly subscription but there is no yearly subscription in the UK, you have to pay 12.99GBP per month making >150 GBP. Game pass is <100GBP.
PSnow in UK and EU has less games in the US too

In UK it is 12.99 GBP per month and they say 500+ games, so less the USA. And I can't find a yearly subscription price

There is a lot of crap on there but there is also a lot of good games, although they are all quite old. I never played any bioshock, so it was good to play all those before they got removed. A couple of Halo and Gears on there too. Sea of thieves and State of decay 2 may not be for everyone but they seem to be quite popular.
Also as a member you get a small discount to buy the game, 5 or 10%, I can't remember.

Anyway, they didn't "announce" it, Phil Spencer just said they are still designing it, specs are not final, it is not in production and there is no release date.
I think it was just a way of saying that Microsoft are not doing away with console generations just yet or that they are dropping out of the console space. Like some people would like to believe.
