Never heard of this game but see it's getting a lot of coverage lately. As I was reading the article, as soon as it said it's a turn based combat, I closed the article. No interest.
While you are right in a sense, I think you have to realise there are a lot more people who do care about the issue than you think.
I do like online gaming and I also don't care much about cross-play for various reasons, some of which you stated, it doesn't matter who you play with, you probably won't know the difference, the games that offer it right now don't interest me etc.
@TGSJustin Didn't realise it was the remaster, I just googled heavy rain, it said 2010. I couldn't care less if Gears remaster was given the original release date. All are worthless to me.

I can play all the GWG games on my Xbox, but can't play all the PS+ games on my PS4. I don't own a 360, PS3 or PS Vita.
Also Heavy Rain is a PS3 game really. Released in 2010.
The article says Heavy Rain release date is 2016. I thought that game came out in 2010.
At least offering the yearly subscription option in other regions (UK) that USA gets, I think it's $99 in USA for one year whereas it's only available at about $17 per month in UK. Although US is $20 per month, it's clear it's trying to get you to get the longer subscriptions.

I've heard these exclusives mentioned but I've never heard of them. Me and all my friends on Xbox never even knew these games existed. Maybe the marketing was non-existent in the UK.

Neither me or any of my friends cares for cross-play, although I would deny it if it was offered. We have plenty to play and plenty to play with.
I did invest in a PS4 pro, I play some Sony exclusives and found my new favourite game series, Yakuza, but I still play my One X 90% of the time.
I don't even play Microsoft exclusives except Forza a bit and I have gamepass which has Gears and Halo on there.
About the Cross-play, I couldn't care less. I do think locking a free-to-play game behind Xbox Live Gold is ridiculous though.
I agree about not needing more player, especially on the more popular games. I've never had an issue on Xbox.
The bigger player pool would benefit developers of smaller games, or extend the life of online games.

I suspect that if Microsoft had said OK, Sony would have said no anyway.. of course that is just pure speculation on my part.
@shinoff2183 I don't see in that article that Sony asked Microsoft for cross-play. Although it does say that Defiance developers said Microsoft won't allow it and microsoft did reply to the question from the author of the article with
"Because we can't guarantee this level of quality, or control the player experience on other consoles or gaming networks, we currently do not open our network to games that allow this cross-over capability."

I don't know how much it would help the competition. If you say because of larger player base, I say games like COD, Battlefield, FIFA have more than enough on Xbox and don't need more players from PS4.
I think it could hurt Xbox though, if I could play Battlefield with my friends on Xbox with a PS4 maybe I don't need to buy an Xbox and buy a PS4 for the exclusives.

I agree with you that no one should be against cross play and there are compelling reason why a gamer should want cross play, like you stated. But cross play is not essential, there are enough people to play with on either console.

I've been here, although retro gaming is not my thing, it was funny that there were absolutely no Xbox one games in the stor but it had some OG Xbox games. Of course there were tons of Playstation game from one to 4, as well as retro gaming at quire affordable prices
Wow, I only played 2 of those games and I only played Monster Hunter for a few hours. Far Cry 5 got a bit repetitive after a shile. Yakuza 6 was better than those 2 games by far. I'll try God of War soon but my back log is calling. If this is the 10 best games of 2018 so far, it's not been a good 6 months for games in my opinion
