Jokesonyou, from the sounds of it....the MS system was very restricted as well. Rumours of one hour time limits on the games being shared, only access to the single player portion of the game, not being able to play the same game at the same time as your single friend that they'd allow on at a time.

Their sharing idea was a poor substitute for giving up so much control in how you utilise the games that you pay for.

Thing is, they won't be abandoning it entirely. When games start requiring cloud access to function, that effectively acts as always online DRM....kind of like Sim City and Diablo 3 utilise.

It's all fine and dandy for a multiplayer game like Titanfall, that needs to be online in order to play it. Wait until single player games start utilising the cloud, and will have major problems if your connection drops out while playing...or you can't even play the game at ...

Streaming a compressed movie file is a little different to downloading 40gigs of data onto your console if your connection sucks.
Besides, what has being discless got to do with DRM, every Xbox One will still be available digitally anyway....so what exactly have you lost?

The 10 person sharing plan? I have news for you, that wasn't going to be the trip to Happy Land that you thought it would be. It would be very restrictive in it's own right. You really thi...

@Edonus, what makes you think the PS4 won't also have Netflix and other video on demand services (hint, it will), it will also play blu rays, it will also feature Skype and various other forms of social communication - both regular, and linked to games via the share button.
It also has cloud streaming, and the potential for cloud functions built into games...just like the Xbox One. The only thing that Xbox One does that PS4 doesn't, is the live TV pass through. For me, that ...

Coolbeans, I'm very much of the ilk that believes that News needs to get back to being neutral...just report the facts. Any time there is an editorial, both sides should get an equal chance to present their viewpoints without being shouted over or demeaned.
Unfortunately, ratings seems to be the focus for the news nowadays...so that means sensationalism and bias in most cases. Oh, and 24 hour news channels really need to go as well...so much filler and repetition, it leads to ba...

The product is "not all that bad"? WOW! Sign me up, I've truly never heard such a ringing endorsement of a product before!

"Buy an Xbox One...it's average really!"

If that's from a real employee, it actually shows that the family sharing idea was WORSE than I thought it was.
I already thought it was restrictive by only allowing 2 people to access the shared library at a time, and only allowing access to single player. To find out it was basically a timed demo actually stuns me. How pathetic a supposed "feature" that was.
I truly think some people had visions in their heads of playing Call of Duty with 10 people off a sing...

Great point. Sony and Nintendo have a track record of providing great first party exclusives on a level that Microsoft simply haven't matched. They coasted last gen on the fact that multi-platform titles tended to fare better on 360 than PS3, and that Call of Duty was more popular on their console than the PS3.
They say they've invested a billion dollars in exclusives, but so far it seems that's going towards buying timed exclusivity for games like Dead Rising 3 and Ryse...

Absolutely, and I think that's why they're OK with changing things at this point, because they can now push cloud function into more and more games and have THAT act as their DRM.
As we saw with Sim City and Diablo 3, that's a recipe for disaster and can lead to unsatisfied customers having paid full price for a game, but are unable to play it due to server problems they can't control.
The cloud is all marketing at this point. They've yet to show us what d...

Publishers and developers are making rods for their own backs due to their own incompetence. Used games and piracy have always been there, this is nothing new.
Publishers are losing money despite selling almost 3.5 million copies of a game (Tomb Raider) because they are budgeting poorly, marketing poorly, and using Metacritic as some sort of barometer for their sales projections. They want every game to sell like Call of Duty, and they think copying that formula and throwing money...

The sharing of games with 10 friends thing sounded better on paper than it actually was. Only two people could access the shared library at any one time, and no multiplayer of the same title could be played. The advantages were minimal, and potentially more hassle than simply loaning someone a disc.

Sony had to do a LOT of work to recover from their initial screw up....I'm not sure Microsoft are capable of doing what's necessary after this and Windows 8. Their decision making is far from great.

DSOGaming doesn't get it....the issue isn't about running on devkits, that's standard practice, and completely fine because those kits are spec equivelant to what the consumer will actually be getting.
The issue was due to the PC's in some Xbox One demo pods being so different from what will be the final hardware....and even the software was different, with Windows 7 being used rather than a version of Windows 8. It was embarrassing more than anything.

That they're only launching in 21 countries suggests they are having some issues....they've targetted their main markets to release in and everyone else has to wait.
No company will ever intentionally limit a launch in that way unless there is a reason. I don't expect MS executives to admit it publicly, but their launch plans would seem to indicate a necessity to limit the numbers of consoles available.

AI being utilized in the cloud is an awful idea...it's also a stealthy way of requiring an always online connection, rather like Sim City and it's fabled "server side calculations" that turned out to be a load of garbage.
Besides, we know the PS4 - well, any device with an internet connection really - is capable of cloud function if said connection is strong enough.

This "unlimited power of the cloud" nonsense is marketing gobbledegook to d...

I argue that they did....they did a fantastic job in that regard. They showed that they're giving indie devs a home by allowing them to self publish. They showed that the draconian restrictions MS are trying to dress up as a positive thing for gamers are actually not all that positive. There is a better, simpler approach that costs a hell of a lot less.
They went at MS because they knew how gamers were feeling after their conference and reveal....that's a good thing, it sho...

They want to be immune because they're no good at admitting mistakes. Games like Tomb Raider can sell over 3 million copies in a month, and apparently, that's considered a failure. Resident Evil 6 sold over 5 million (closer to 6), and Capcom were still complaining.
They're all chasing Call of Duty sales rather than budgeting for more sensible sales figures that won't put them in the red. In short, publishers are really damn stupid. They want to railroad customers ...

Yes, and consumers who don't want to connect - or can't - have the option of ignoring the games that use the cloud on PS4.
With Xbox One, there is NO option, you HAVE to be online at least once every 24 hours. See the difference yet?
Personally, I hope no game ever has cloud functions as standard, because the second your internet connection drops, your game is screwed. Funny how this so-called "future" that MS seem to be rushing towards has so many more poi...

Used games can still bring in money - DLC sales. A cheap used purchase of a game in a particular series can lead to new sales of a future sequel if the game is well liked.
The problem with a lot of game companies is they simply don't want to compete in the proper way. They don't want to have to create a game that people don't want to trade in, they just want to bash a product out as quickly as possible and make as much money as possible - because they feel they're en...
