Surprised there wasn't any mention of the backwards compatibility in the article. I almost never play any PSX or PS2 games anymore, but it's nice to be able to pop one in whenever I feel like playing them.
Official numbers would be nice; 2006 seems like such a long time ago...
A quick, sometimes accurate way, to determine who is winning over the minds of consumers is to listen to whatever video game company comes out of the mouths of politicians when they try to generalize the industry.
You get what you pay for when it comes to video game platforms. You want to over power consoles? It's getting cheaper to do so on PC, but then again, so are the consoles themselves.
When I said a long way, I meant 15-20 years. A certain percent of the population needs to meet a certain criteria for a huge investment in cloud gaming to be considered. The size and scope of games always increases and the infrastructure of many target regions, particularly the United States, needs to catch up. Knowing how slow my country is at overhauling infrastructure these days, I would say it is still going to be almost two decades before we see a widely successful cloud-based console. ...
Some people have a hard time looking past PR spin and ignore common sense.
Look at it this way, unless they go into another direction, the most feasible location for the first next gen GTA will be Vice City now.
I'm having a hard time agreeing or disagreeing with the article in its entirety. I believe developers need to be given more creative freedom, but the actual evolution of the industry will always be tied in with technological advances since it offers developers more to play with; even if they don't make full use of the advances.
We are still a long way from a cloud based console from one of the big three. Releasing such a thing too soon alienates a lot of potential customers who either do not have the speeds required, have an ISP who's network wouldn't be able to handle the additional stress of thousands of cloud based consoles, or simply just don't have the internet.
Same ship here, I've been using XBL for 10 years now, but with three separate accounts.
Abojooj wrote it that way it seems. It wasn't the original title of the article.
Am I really going to be the first person to ask what is up with using the Obama pic haha
Look up economies of scale and then you will realize how consoles are able to out-do the average gaming PC for the first 2 years of its life cycle.
Hell yes to Hitman
I have to say this game does look better the more I see of it. I was worried the stealth and atmosphere of the originals was being overshadowed in favor of a shoot 'em up.
Remember gaming before the internet and having to wait to ask your friend at school (who's mom bought him the strategy guide) how to get past certain areas?
Look up Bain Capital and you'll realize how ridiculous you sound. Both candidates have large press machines backing them.
Never realized this,but I don't think I've ever owned a redesign.
These companies would be able to sell a console on par with a >$2,000 rig for under $700 for one reason; economies of scale.
What costs an individual to make for $2,000 is not going to cost an international company nearly the same to make (when they produce thousands of them).
It's almost impossible to play the game for longer than 30 minutes without almost being blown to bits
