Kreate I'm not a fan of third party exclusives period. But it's a business and doing deals for exclusivity helps. More than third party exclusive hate for me are the bs excuses from developers for why a game is exclusive in the first place.

Financial support is the best reason. If the install base for a console is low that is an acceptable reason. But bull like"console A just feels like home for our game" just sounds stupid. Just say you got paid. That kind...

AMD isn't in a position to do all of the things you want. They are spending their money on advancing their technology right now. Once they start getting more design wins they will be better able to assist developers and OEMs. But as their custom business builds developers will become more familiar with their designs. Controlling the console market will be a big help. Mantle pushing API design was a help. I don't think Mantle was meant to be an ongoing project. I believe it was a catal...

Oookay. So they are moving to 10. But haven't reports been coming out that they are only seeing a ten percent gain on their new chips. AMD will get more than that just by going to 14. Add the rumors that Zen itself is a big upgrade and there's a very good chance they will compete well against Intel. Plus if VISC is really what has been claimed AMD moves ahead because they are one of the main investors in the company the developed that architecture.

Actually Canada that is no longer true. Next year AMD drops down to 14nm. They signed a deal with Samsung for the tech. So they will be on even footing with Intel on that. Unless Intel pushes to 12 or 10. But the die shrink and new architecture should make for a brand new game.

Gilgamesh I disagree with anyone going with NVIDIA. Especially for a console. It seems NVIDIA's plan for the future is paying people off to code to their architecture and against the competition's. They are overpriced. And they are falling behind in innovation. The R390 is estimated to be faster than Titan X but cost as much as $450 less. More than likely it will be $200-300 less. But it will have HBM. A huge jump in GPU architecture. It should have twice the bandwidth of Titan X. AMD...

If that, like Star Wars, is what these games end up looking like EA is making a big statement. It would also throw the idea that it will take two more generations to reach real-time CGI quality out of the window.

People keep complaining about the hardware but if people watched the video from GDC and BUILD they would have a better idea of why they made the choices they made. Xbox One was designed with games in the forefront. They believe in cloud computing to increase the power of gaming. Whether you you do or not is up to you but they plan to prove it.

They've talked about their designs ability for faster clock speeds as having more advantages than additional GPU cores and closing...

I think when he talks about Windows 10 coming to Xbox One in this case he is referring to PC type features like creating documents and acting as a media center. Streaming Xbox games should happen much sooner.

Halo 5 will be dx12. DX12 spec is finished and should be released to developers in mass soon. The updates Xbox One has been getting over the last few months were most likely background OS additions. Microsoft demoed a video from a Chinese developer that updated a dx11 game to dx12 with just two guys in less than six weeks. I'm sure Microsoft is as good with dx12 so I seriously doubt that they wouldn't take advantage of it on their biggest system selling title. Especially given they ha...

Nintendo wouldn't really be cutting huge loses. They had a couple of down years but they haven't been bad enough for anyone to panic. But the belief is Nintendo would be looking at 2017 as a launch year which falls right in line with their typical launch schedule. GameCube, Wii and Wii U launched five years apart. It would also give them a couple of years having far superior hardware. Given the advances of the next year with the previous two will see Nintendo launch a machine with sev...

You can compare movies and games because game budgets have gotten huge. Look at a game like GTA V. I bet they spent 100 million. The rumors are they did. Even with high priced actors most movies don't spend that. That doesn't compete with the blockbusters, but on average I bet movies and games are pretty close. Looking at the typical wide release theatrical movie the budget is probably around the 30-40 million dollar range. The average AA or AAA game probably has a 20-25 million dolla...

Godmars because the design of the Xbox One OS should make BC easier. The Xbox 360 CPU was simply a general purpose part with a basic GPU. The only difference being it used a RISC based CPU. PC games have worked fine with IBM chips so it should be pretty simple to add a 360 OS to the One hypervisor.

I read on Anandtech that the AMD DX12 drivers were very good. I don't think drivers will hurt AMD going forward. But NVIDIA paying off people to purposely gimp AMD's architecture probably won't change until NVIDIA loses too much market share and can no longer afford to pay people off.

I don't think it will take two generations for 4k on consoles. If you look at things remaining the status quo then sure. But in a few weeks we will see a sea change when the R390 drops. There are several things different. IIRC it will be on the same die size with a billion more transistors, but uses less power than the previous AMD flagship. And AMD is moving to 20nm and 16 or 14 soon after. That means more transistors and less power and heat. AMD is really pushing using less power now. T...

People that say you can't make fixed hardware better seem to be under the impression that these consoles are 100% efficient. They aren't. They also seem to forget every generation has games get better as developers learn the custom parts. I've read that GPUs are only around 70% efficient. DX12, Vulken and the new PS4 API are a move towards 100% efficiency. Which makes fixed hardware better.

I don't believe Sony and Microsoft ever had plans to wait. Definitely not Microsoft. The current generation consoles broke even or made a profit day one. That was by design. Microsoft has been working on dx12 for years despite what some may think. They knew the distance dx12 would put between consoles and PC. So the idea of ten years lifespans was laughable. They may support it, but they will launch another console in the five or six year window.

Like you mentioned HBM, ...

Five I don't think the marketing team has anything to do with it. Microsoft doesn't have to pretend their console is better than it has been because it is. It was designed around dx12 and that was just completed a month ago. Microsoft is still learning the ends and outs of the new API even though they are better than everyone else with it. There is a lot more to Xbox One than has been shown. It will prove to be a very capable machine.

Lildude you're ignoring the complete picture. This isn't the days when you lost money for a couple of years on hardware. This generation launched breaking even or making a small profit on every console sold. The value of die shrinks is decreasing especially since you can't upgrade your specs because of alienating the early adopters.

Technology has zoomed past these machines in some ways. PC has always looked better and that was before Mantle. Now the new APIs wil...

Okay Conzul. They should unbrick his console. But then file a suit. He'll need to sell the console for lawyer fees and the judgment against him. I'm pretty sure the lawyers for Microsoft had enough sense to adjust the NDA for the country he lives in. And I'm betting they didn't include anything illegal in it like slavery. Why the hell would anyone even think that? He should stick with the temporarily bricked console. The suit would go against him. And I'm sure a thousand o...

Brilliant? That's a reach. If he was brilliant he would have already known people are pretty --itty to each other when given the chance. There is a reason they say absolute power corrupts absolutely. We have a few thousand years of history to show us we are not very different from what we came from.

Look at the experiment where people thought they were shocking someone for wrong answers. Just because the authority figure said so. Sheep. That study along with the prison s...
