First, a comment on the moron Forbes has doing these farticles(accidently hit the link during a search). This dude is a total moron. It's shows how low Forbes has sunk. Not that a financial magazine was ever that high anyway. He makes it clear how stupid he is by saying he always pays full price for Live. I don't believe this fool owns any consoles.

Jek,

It's not giving it up. It's moving the ball. They give up MP, but they use other things to...

I think all of the gaming companies are looking at it as one big market. Except for Nintendo. They seem to be unwilling to spend the money needed to participate in chasing the average hardcore gamers. They will always have their base. But will struggle to expand until they are willing to add true power to their machines. Their third party developer support reflects that.

But Sony and MS are chasing the same market with the same features. MS will bring original content. Somet...

That farticle said nothing. It is possible that MS will launch at a cheaper price than the PS4. It will have nothing to do with the current consoles launch histories. It will simply be because MS has gorged themselves this generation. The 360 has been sold at a profit for years and Live has made a ton of money also. MS may spend a billion a year in advertising Xbox, but they make a lot more from sales.

I'm sure some will believe MS is still losing money on Xbox. That idio...

Jek,

I think it's possible if they get something else that pulls people in. If they were to get the next big TV series or made the exclusives games available for free to Gold members. Maybe buy Netflix and make it a part of Live.MS is spending millions just getting the executives to run their TV division, they apparently have big plans for it. That they are in negotiations to bring Heroes back shows that they are thinking big.

I believe at some point, M...

It's probably not missing any of those things. We won't know if it is until Sony actually releases the thing.

Logic,

I would think it would be the opposite. Since you're working on one platform you cn optimize because you know the exact feature set of the machine and don't have to worry about differences in architecture. Plus I'm sure you would be getting more support from that console maker, if you want support in future projects you need to perform well. That could prove the difference between the ability to make a new project and not having the resources. Your rep is e...

There is no such thing as future proofing with technology. They should stop saying that. It's just a marketing trick.

$400 will be the price. Especially after hearing that so many believe it will be so much more. This is a PR groups dream. If your customer base already believes you love them to death, you give them a $400 price point and you make a profit day one and they believe they are getting the deal of the century.

JoeOrc mentioned that these are mobile chips with mobile GPUs. They are far cheaper chips. Add that they are SoCs. The GPU and CPU are one chip. They are also a lot smaller...

They have to do next gen. This generation has been too long. A major release on a 8 year old console is fine. I'm sure they will do a lot of new things. But there is so much more they can do on new hardware. It's time to see an entire building fall. Though I'm not sure about bigger cities. It took a long time to get the feel for Liberty City. Something three or four times bigger will be a lot to deal with.

The DS outsells the Vita because of it's legacy. It's a machine that has mass appeal. When the DS first launched and had games like Brain Training and Sudoku non-gamer adults started buying tons of them to use on mass transit. Now brand recognition still gets some of those sales and mainstream is a huge market. Gamers may hate to hear it but going mainstream equals survival as prices increase. As we move past PS3 power in a handheld we move toward multi-million dollar budgets. You nee...

A hug wouldn't help. Combine all of the SOny loses on the PS3 and they wipe out any gains from the PS1 and 2. Disagree but Sony financial statements can't be disagreed with. Except by Sony fanboys. Whole different world. Most developers have done poorly period. Including many exclusive to Sony. At least Japanese developers lost out on the 360 because Japanese won't buy the 360. Developers lost out with Sony because PS3 owners won't buy the games.

MS actually h...

It is a really good question. They have to do something. PS3 games won't be available in the beginning. Maybe they will give PSN+ users access to one or two Sony published titles until PS3 titles become available through Gaikai. PS4 games are going to be available digitally day one so that is an option. Or maybe they will re-do a few Sony PS3 titles to work on the PS4 day one as DD. Or new Arcade and Indie titles. One thing is sure, people aren't going to just accept a $50 fee without...

@griever137

You fed right into the idea of the fanboy's demands. You named a bunch of games that haven't even been released and assumed they are better because they are big budget games. Xof never mentioned any casual titles. He just said the AAA budget games, that doesn't automatically just leave $500,000 games. You can still have a 5-10 million budget. Maybe even 15 million. It has nothing to do with casual but your comment does ring of the mentality that is for...

@Rain

What's up Rain. We've had this debate before and we know we disagree. That said you are misrepresenting me a little. I'm not saying used games are what's killing off developers. I'm saying blocking used games will be a help to quality developers. Bad developers will go out of business no matter what. Not having data is not an argument. If you need data for everything you believe in you're in for a rough life. I don't assume every used sale is...

@whoyouwit04

So you think developers are just being greedy? So many of them are so greedy that they have gone out of business. You've been a gamer for 20+ years. How many companies have you watched go out of business. I've seen a lot in my 30+. Many never got beyond a hit or two. That's understandable. Gamers always talk about new IP, but if developers can't make enough profit they have to continue to use outside sources to fund games. Which means they can'...

People act like gaming is only important to the developers. Retailers need games and consoles too. There is a reason that games and movies line the shelve of the line ques. Games are probably the biggest item in most big box stores that drives traffic. They will not just dump games or consoles.

Also the retailers would be far more upset about Sony having digital games day and date with the physical releases. Something Sony hasn't hedged about. That goes a long way toward ...

Sony said that they wouldn't block used games. But they said they would leave it up to publishers. So Sony titles might not be blocked, but games from others might. There may be a situation where they are blocked for a certain period. Say for the first 3 months. But there was an interview where one of the Sony executives said that it would be left up to publishers. Maybe Sony has changed their stance because of blowback, but they did say it.

@nukeitall

Companies like Gamestop are leeches because they have no talent. They scavenge other peoples work for their gain. And they cheat the person that is selling them the game too. I can't understand how people see developer after developer go out of business and think that the developers are just trying to get more money. Going out of business doesn't make you more money. It all stops. Best Buy and Amazon are a little better on the customer side, but still don&#...
