they've said Xbox One owners will be able to access games on a profile. What I want to know is does that mean they can play multiplayer from the same game or play single player on one machine and MP on the other.

They don't make the whole $80. Other things come into play. Those estimates are usually what's called a BOM(Bill of Materials). They don't include packaging, assembly construction of the console. Some do, some don't. Add advertising and shipping. If there are shortages sometimes you have to rush the shipments and that can be expensive. MS had to have 360's flown into the US at launch and that cost them a ton of money. Consoles are usually brought over on boats in huge numb...

I know the article mentions the design but that has little to do with the lower cost. The most expensive parts of a console are the CPU and the GPU. In these console those two chips are one chip. In addition, the size of the chip matters. Last generation had two chips and both were 90nm. Now it one chip and 28nm. When that fabricate chips they use a wafer. The wafer are the same size, but if you have a smaller chip you can make more chips from that wafer. But the cost to make "print&quo...

This is the PS4 exclusive that got my attention.

Knack? I'm not ten anymore.

Architecture counts in cost too. Just because it cost more in the past doesn't mean that will always be the case. One of the developers even admitted as much awhile back. Simple economics also dictate that volume brings cost down. There are far more x86 coders out there which keeps wages lower. Wages are a companies biggest expense. That alone brings down cost. The architecture of the Cell caused many problems and extra work, that is gone and that was a huge expense. All gone now. High de...

Brazz you're wrong on everything but the Blu-ray player. The main cost is the APU and Sony doesn't have a fab to produce their own APUs. They don't make RAM. The other parts are older parts that anyone can get cheap in bulk. It's not cutting edge materials. And considering Sony has such a bad credit rating they pay far more for the huge loans they possess. MS has no long term debt save the loans they made when credit was so low it saved them money to borrow because of tax brea...

It's also a Disney product and they do okay here. Will sell fine. No reference to the above comment. But there are some really sad comments on this thread. People are really silly enough to believe that a business is going to support their selfish stance on how to run a company? Just eat your soup and grilled cheese and wait to grow up to comment on things.

MS stated before E3 they had things lined up for Gamescom. And they also always have their own conference.

I don't think development cost has anything to do with it. I would bet it's cheaper to develop for PS4 than it was for PS3. PS3 developers had to be trained and there were few of them. That means good ones were probably paid well. x86 developers are a dime a dozen. There are tons of those out there. It helps to have the really good ones but I would bet there are a ton of really good ones that need work. I'm sure somewhere there is a x86 coder saying"We're back baby"...

@cleft5

That may have been the case in the past. But these are two machines with the same basic architecture. There should be no delays in developing the game. Especially since it's the best known CPU architecture in the world.

People can keep pretending this is different from Microsoft's policy. They are exactly the same. MS doesn't force anything but the check-in. But they said used games would be up to the publisher. And I would bet the check-in will change. Sony fans make themselves look stupid reaching for an advantage.

MS is being a little greedy. APUs are cheap to make. And DDR3 is much cheaper than GDDR5. Kinect does cost extra, but not that much. It's no more than $100 of cost. Probably closer to $75. The APU is less than $100, RAM less than or around $100 and other parts are around $100. Additional cost are probably around $50. So One would have been sold for a slight loss at $400. Kinect wasn't needed so it should have been at a profit. I do understand that Kinect could be a bonus if developers...

Sony is actually doing nothing MS isn't doing. If you watch the Jack Trenton interview on Gametrailers he was asked what would happen if a publisher asked to block used games. His reply was that Sony wouldn't interfere with the way a publisher wanted to present their product to the public. So PS4 still might have blocked games. Both consoles have the same policy. That makes all of this celebration lap running odd and out of place.

It's okay for me given I haven't purchased a football game since 2k released that All-pro version of 2k5. I refuse to buy Madden. Though I had stopped buying Madden back when it got bad in the 90's. There is a bias toward the NFC and old NFL built into Madden. You'll see it in the games and even in the screenshots released. Look at the screenshots released over the years for Madden. It's all NFC. The only AFC teams that get any attention are the Colts, Steelers and Raiders...

EA is crazy if they actually listen to the views of a bunch of uneducated clowns about their image. EA has problems. They have done things I disagree with. But they aren't close to being one of the worse companies in the world let alone the worst. Idiots currently being slowly killed by some companies don't really matter if they think you're that bad.

But do drop the micro-transactions and stop taking money from the NFL. Madden players still look like they are ro...

All of this talk of Sony won is so silly. Actually it's plain stupid. Sony fans have always defended the higher price points so price is a non-issue really. You don't get to brag about things you thought were unimportant in the past. It also makes you look stupid to do so. While I disagree with Kinect shouldn't be forced on people, in the long run I believe it will be a factor in gaming over time. MS needs to push innovative ways to use it and give them to all developers.

No, no, no. No understanding. Paying for the rest of the game is criminal. Start a campaign against it. It cost them nothing.

Don't fool yourself. If MS realizes that the restriction are hurting sales they will quickly drop them. I actually don't think it will take that long because now that it's clear publishers aren't pushing them, MS will drop them. They won't stay on that limp alone.

I guess you believe One is inferior because you read it on the Internet. Did you hear that from the same people that told you that One games wouldn't 60fps. So far they all seem to be. The pr...

You're no longer Bubble. Look at that.

What non-core games did MS show? Hicken you're still incapable of honesty, huh. Sony fans whined non stop about media features and even when Sony states they're number one at media features you pretend it didn't happen. Yes, MS has problems with blocking games and that should change now that publishers are apparently no longer pushing it. It would be stupid for MS to try to force it on their own.

Strange ...
