A browser with its' own kernel is destined to fail. One more thing for someone to target and exploit and corrupt.
Not again. The iPod touch plays music and videos well and games like ass. The PSP does music and videos just as well but plays games VERY well minus a touch screen. The iPod Touch and iPhone have absolutely NO HOPE in their current iterations of ever supplanting the PSP or DS as a portable gaming device.
"If you want proof of a developer skills growing over time with a console take a look at Lost Planet 2.It looks better than Gears of War and Killzone 2 combined."
I have looked at all the "Official" hi-res screens and they are not even close to Gears 2 let alone Killzone 2. The lighting in the game is horrible and the only thing that looks half decent in any of the shots are the main char. and some of the larger creatures/bosses. The environment is flat and ...
Is your notion that none of us do developement on Cell based systems. I have been developing on the Cell now for quite a while for AT&T labs. Granted it's not as clear cut as writing code for a x86 or even a straight up PPC or IBM Power processor. The thing is once you learn how to properly develop for the Cell the performance gains over industry standard processors is absolutely AMAZING. Seeing as how the Xenon in the XBox 360 is nothing more than 3 PPC cores with SMT coding for it i...
A quick note to Shaun Himmerick.
RTFM you freakin' hammerhead.
OK all better now. You would think before someone dove headlong into a project they would have had at least a rudimentary understanding of the technologies and processes involved in it. Instead he goes about creating this craptastic game the same ole way with bloated code and then has an epiphany? Please any programmer or developer worth his/her salt gets a few good books on a new architecture as to be...
Run Linux, use WINE, Cedega or Crossover to run your necessary Windows apps if you have any and never worry about licensing again. There fixed.
This is why Microsoft will continue in its' downward spiral. Ballmer has been and always will be the "Dancing Monkey Boy" and slayer of office furniture and never anything else. The Mac and OS X have already punched a hole in the Windows installed base as has Linux and both are continuing to enjoy increased adoption. As for the iPhone being nothing but buzz someone might to tell Monkey Boy that the installed base of iPhones has suprassed that of Windows Mobile/PocketPC on smartph...
Yeah a PS3 without Blu-Ray.. LOL! Next on the list Microsoft to release a cheap XBox 360 without a DVD drive. Come on really. How can anyone in their right mind even bring themselves to question something so stupid? It should just be ignored and filed in the "Dee Dee DEE" section.
Come on it's Gamestop. My local Gamestop when asked if there was going to be a Killzone 2 midnight launch said, "No, we don't have enough pre-orders". So I send my wife in two days later and ask if she would be able to get a copy of Killzone 2 on launch day and the SAME GUY <-- tells her, "Sorry, you're going to have to pre-order Killzone 2 because the demand is too high and we cannot guarantee availability without a pre-order". Plain and simple Gamestop is full of ...
Oh that's rich. Kinda like McDonalds being responsible for obesity. Next people will start blaming their pencils for spelling mistakes.
This is how first party devs work together for Sony. Dev A has some awesome tools and tricks for lighting, Dev B some great stuff for AI, Dev C Physics, etc... Then they share their tools and tips with other first party devs to make their games better.
Actually one QS21 could probably do that in realtime with light sources and full camera manipulation. To give those with a graphics arts/3D modeling background an idea of how the Cell works here's a quick link.

Then there is this one which is really freakin cool
No I work for AT&T Labs. How is it because I work with Cell based units I have to be a Sony dev? The Cell is available in a wide range of Blade servers as well as plug-in expansion cards to be used as a computer on a card. kthxbye

That link shows the i7 performance overclocked at about 86 gigaFLOPS. The Cell B/E is capable of a sustained 198 gigaFLOPS with a peak of around 205 gigaFLOPS. Also the memory bandwith and throughput are higher on the Cell B/E than on the i7. As for the Cell performance benchmarks I have this link which is the most informative. <...
As a developer who has been working on PPC based systems since the Power2 in 1994 I can say that this article has been taken WAY out of context. The Xenon while not a slouch is nowhere near the performance of the Cell. The Xenon is a three core PPC based chip and each core capable of SMT. It is true that the Xenon cores are slightly modified versions of the Cell's PPE it is nowhere near capable of reaching the Cell's performance levels. The Cell which I am also very intimate with thanks t...
From the article "It's gameplay looks weak"
I am assuming from this statement that they didn't even play the game to review it. If that is in fact true then how in the hell could they even review the game?
Two PS3's and two more on their way in March. One will be going into the boys room while the 4th will become a PC first and play some games in the off time in my office. My wonderful boss is allowing me to get the fourth on the company's tab to use a desktop and dev station for working with the Cell. YAY! Now if I could only convince my wife that playing Killzone 2, UT3 and LBP I was working all would be right in the world.
Get your credit card ready because you will be buying a PS3.
If I can find a place where two hot chicks play a Wii and ignore me while having sex with them I am all for it. It's almost like being married except two chicks ignore you instead of one.
Well MS has finally gone off the deep end and opened Pandora's Box. The Free Software Foundation and the Open Invention Network will bury these poor bastards. The OIN was founded for just this reason and with members such as IBM, Sony, Philips, NEC, Novell and RedHat the patent pool far exceeds that of which MS is trying to leverage against Linux. You can be assured that MS violates more of IBM's patents than MS has patents and the full OIN portfolio will be brought to bear against MS if t...
