Granted Japan hasn't impacted numbers that much amongst the HD consoles this gen BUT there is the Final Fantasy factor. There are three games that the Japanese love. Anything to do with Monster Hunter, anything to do with big robots and anything to do with Final Fantasy. Don't be surprised if the PS3 moves 250k+ units in Japan in the first couple of weeks of the Final Fantasy release. Granted it isn't 1 million a month but is certainly a HUGE step up from the 15k-20k sales it has been see...
Not really optimistic as much as I am realistic. With FF XIII being released exclusively in Japan on the PS3 that will drive up hardware sales. Then in the states and europe there is Killzone 2, InFamous, Heavy Rain, GT5 and GoW 3 amongst others. I do see sales spikes for Killzone 2, GT5 and GoW 3 in particular though due to the popularity of the franchises. There is also going to be a pricecut we just don't know when. If they time the pricecut along the lines of one of the big franchise...
That Actiblizzard is wrong here. I think that the PS3 will outsell the XBox 360 this year by a significant margin due to the exclusives lined up for the PS3 as well as the eventual price drop. Don't be surprised if the PS3 outsells the XBox 360 by 2 million or so units throughout 2009.
The company has absolutely no info about the new engine that is useful or relevant. Personally I would like to think WOW AWESOME! but until I see something using it it gets the same reaction as the RTE1080 engine in WarDevil. Show me something tangible please.
Maybe if they made something worth playing on the PSP things would be different. On the DS it is no surprise as anything that is half decent in the world of DS shovelware usually sells well.
Let's see.
NO cost = $50 licensing savings on OEM systems (Dell as an example)
FREE Office Suite (Open Office) = $400 savings over Office 2k7 Pro
NO need for AV software (Linux is inherently immune) = $50 savings
NO need for Media Creation Software (K3B, Video Editing software) = $100 savings
NO need for Photoshop (GIMP) = $600 savings
So just off the top of my head $1,200 USD saved.
So yes Linux is in fact cheaper, faster, mo...
Innovate no, refine yes. As has been mentioned by others Killswitch on the PS2 was the first to use this.
Yeah I thought about geting it but there that whole language barrier thing. I hope they release it for the NA/EU markets soon. I know a lot of people wanting this feature.
Is freakin' phenominal. I haven't purchased a sports game since Madden 2001 on the PS2 and this one changed my mind. The game plays excellent, controls excellent and looks absolutely stunning in 1080p. Truly an excellent title.
Active X is about as similar to Java as oranges are to cow turds. Active X allows write outs to sensitive areas of the file system. Java runs in its' own sandbox and doesn't touch any of the file system. Though they may appear to operate in a similar manner Java is inherently far more secure and reliable than Active X.
For a game that is supposed to release this year there are NO in game screen shots, alpha in game footage to oogle over, nothing at all. I can only hope it is as good as they say BUT something deep down inside says to be cautiously optimistic.
ROFLMAO!!! Funniest damned thing I have read in a while.
I never EVER thought I would say this about another human being but... I hope this man dies a terrible, lingering and painful death due to cancer metastasizing through his body. He is a bane to society and humanity and does not deserve to enjoy the gift of life.
Well the midnight launches for GTA, Halo and Gears was not only due to hype but also due to the ungodly amount of advertising dollars put into them. Plain and simple when you advertise the hell out of a game regardless of the hype created sales outlets are almost obligated to have these launches due to the money pumped into them by the advertisers.
When piracy like this becomes rampant not only do the devs suffer but so do the console owners. Put simply the XBox 360 has only been out for 3 years and has been pirated for at least one year if not slightly longer. Big name titles like Gears or Halo won't suffer from too much of a loss in profit due to the shear volume of sales. But when games like SF IV which will undoubtedly sell 1-2 million gets pirated and loses 50-100k sales at $50 - $60 a pop that is a big deal. It not only gives ...
Microsoft misleading customers!? NO way!

Actually. Sanyo has developed a 100 Gig Blu-Ray, TDK has developed a 200 Gig Blu-Ray and Pioneer has developed a 400 Gig Blu-Ray. All these discs can be read on existing Blu-Ray players including the PS3 so it is a very real possibilty.
EDIT: Normally I wouldn't comment on a disagree BUT. How in the hell can someone disagree with facts? Sanyo, TDK and Pioneer do have these discs available and working NOW. I guess denial causes people to do stupid things?
AvP was one of my favorite games on the PC. Would love an updated version for consoles.
A multi-disc set would defeat the purpose. The idea is to have the movie AND game on one disc. If that means a 100 GB Blu-Ray so be it. Think of it as BD-Live on steroids. The main menu of the movie will have your standard selections, BD-Live section and a "Play Game" option that would launch right into the game.
Step 1. Backup data to USB HD or CD
Step 2. Insert Ubuntu, Fedora, SuSE, Mandriva, Linux Mint or PCLinuxOS CD
Step 3. Install Linux and configure
Step 4. Restore Data
Step 5. Run a fast, secure, stable and feature rich OS that will not corrupt, fragment its' filesystem or be vulnerable to viruses or malware.
Step 6. SMILE!!!
