Amen. Gamers should be thankful that we have not one, not two, but THREE good consoles this cycle, each with the ability to provide a unique gaming experience.
It's struggling, for sure. But it's WAAAAAAAY too early to lump it in with Dreamcast, 3DO, etc.

2 million is a LOT of games. But this is a popular franchise in Japan, and with the positive reviews, people starved for new PS3 games may snatch this up.
I remember renting this just to appease a friend...and enjoying the hell out of it. I'll download it, for sure.
1. Movie downloads instead of UMD. Why Sony, with all of their film assets, hasn't done this is beyond me.
2. Less ports, more original content. "We simply didn't buy a PSP to play second-rate versions of games we already own." Couldn't have said it better myself.
3. Better first-party support.
4. Better ad campaigns. The bad viral campaign, the racist billboards, the incoherent dust motes--who is this supposed to appeal to? DS has thrive...
I'm not particularly anti-Sony (or pro-MS) but that really summed up the arrogance and excessive hype Sony used when rolling put their new system. Perhaps Sony learns something from all the negative press, eats a little crow, and gains some humility. Then, next generation, maybe they'll remember that it's about the GAMES and the GAMERS, not Sony corporate interests.
Gotta love articles like this...gets the blood flowin.' Seriously, tho, he has a point...Sony's focus seems to have slipped from games to multimedia domination of your living room...which, ironically, what MS has been trying to do for years. To paraphrase an old political saying...it's the games, stupid. Everything else is gravy.

He's entitled to his opinion. Whether someone dislikes the Wii, PS3, or 360, that's their right. It's when they hate a system for irrational reasons that it devolves into fanboyism.

3. More balanced online play (less "trench warfare" and weapon whoring)

Sounds like Sam's Club or Costco in the US. They often sell systems below cost/or in wholesale bundles.
Confirmed rumor: The PS3 and 360 will both play games.
I've personally experienced quite a bit of it at gamestores. When I go in to a gamestore, I tend to listen to the sales clerks and see what they're telling customers. I wrote a few of them down; here are my favorites:
"The PS3 has a 50% failure rate."
"The 360 has full backwards compatibility"
"Microsoft has recalled all 360s made before June 2006" (overheard at an EB store by an overtly pro-Sony clerk).
