- The map pack is region locked.
- You have to pay for the map pack on consoles.
- The multiplayer lobby system.
Hopefully they'll address some if not all the above for future releases.
...has had a hard time in japan but I wonder if things would have been slightly better if not for the RROD issue.
...was great for some but was nothing but a made for teen flick that had about as much depth as a spoonful of water.
...the intentional handicap for new players is plain rediculous. Especially when there are nowhere near enough games being hosted to cater for lower skilled players.
MGO will not stand the test of time and will only be played by hardcore MGS fans. COD4 will still have a strong following in 12 months.
They are completely different on-line games. One of my gripes with MGO however is that you needed to download a patch before you can even start playing. Maybe if the game was a few months old but I thought they would have sorted out all the bugs during the beta period and released the final product with MGS4.
By the way...MGO = 6/10 in my books. MGO is simply not my type of multiplayer game as its more about stealth and sniping than action. I much prefer Gears of War for TP...
Speculating over the quality of the final product based on 20 seconds of CGI would be a waste of time. I for one hope they pull it off as I personally love WWII games when they are done well.
...in game images but what is shown does not look any worse or better than COD4 from a cut-scene point of view. You have to keep in mind the different settings, buildingarchitectures, etc.
I think its worth waiting to see how the final game ends up.
...How did the lobby system differ from that in the demo? The demo featured yet another inept next-gen lobby system where you could not even see what your connection was like in relation to who was hosting.
In my opinion Halo 3 has set the benchmark for what a console lobby system should be like. Yet we keep getting games that are all about on-line play featuring underpowered lobby systems. COD4 is a good example of this. Great game yet you have no idea what your connection...
...that a New Zealand gaming site has not covered the lobby system of what is essentially an on-line game in a bit more detail.
I hate only having an auto matching lobby. I also want to be able search for games and pick which one I wish to join - especially given connection issues when joining games hosted outside of New Zealand.
...I was in gaming heaven with MGS4...now I could not give a toss about it. Why? well, I was half way through Act 4 and suddenly the game would not let me out of the item menu (i.e. L2). The controller was fully charged and I could move around the item menu but I could not exit and return to the game. Furthermore, although I could hit the PS button to list the "Quit Game" option I could not actually select 'X' to quite...grrrr. After several minutes of frustration and trying ev...
...but Metal Gear Online is a poor attempt at taking the franchise on-line. I have tried playing it and if its not lag that contributes to your downfall then its some guy who has already mastered the control scheme and is able to wipe you out with a headshot before you have even fired your first round. Sure, I'll admit I am not all that good at the game but the difficulty level and the quirks of MGO don't inspire me to want to go back for more. I mean, what is with:
- The se...
...wow. I almost reached for the heater as the feeling of being in the cold was so incredible.
I never played MGS1 so am completely envious of anyone who experiences the full sentimentality of returning to where the game began.
MGS4 is a game that surpasses the hype. My only regret is that I am appraching the game's end and that MGO does nothing for me...
...tell me why MGO is considered good? I am struggling to see its relevance.
...if MGS story line is as shallow as your suggesting then most other games must feature no plot or back story at all.
By all means bag the MGS story but can you come up with some examples as to why you think it is so shallow.
...I think MGS4 is a standout game on the PS3 and one of the best games I have played in a long while. However, Metal Gear Online is uninspired and if it were sold as a stand alone game would not be worth the asking price.
Movement feel sluggish, the hit model is way off and the controls make the game more challenging than it should be. Sure there are some who will love MGO but its not a game for the masses or anything that will be played by many for long.
COD4...
...so, what made it such a standout game for you? You say it was creative and I don't deny that but what about the gameplay made it so original and different from any other FPS?
...I'm going back to playing MGS4 and so should everyone else.
...as I lost interest in it. It had nothing really new in terms of the FPS genre. Sure the setting and atmosphere were fantastic but other than that it was a stock standard FPS game.
Oh, the only other other thing that was supposed to be inventive was earning credits from harvesting small girls. No matter how you feel about this aspect of the game it was still nothing more than getting credits to buy upgrades.
Oh yes, worst part of the game has to be hacking...
...MGS4 has set an extremely high bar in terms of quality and that if future PS3 releases are going to raise it even further then we have not seen anything yet.
...I stopped playing Gears of War on-line was because of the lag. Mind you, its still one hell of a great multiplayer TPS.
