Yeah, they totally were begging for it, and now they're wondering why everyone is bitching to them. They're the ones who picked their market strategy, and so they only have themselves to blame for the response they're receiving.

Ugh. Just ugh.

@Mini Mario
Maybe it's a good thing that they wanted a console that would remain relevant for more than five years. Maybe the fact that Nintendo is entering the same console generation twice indicates that they lacked the foresight that the competition had. Maybe any blunder that Nintendo makes can be spun to look like a smart move.

I'm sorry, but when games are coming on 3-4 discs, the fact of the matter is that developers are under technical constraints when it comes to the structure of their games. Can you imagine a GTA game so packed with content that it wouldn't fit on a single DVD, yet since it's an open world game, would require disc swapping to visit different areas on the map? It wouldn't happen, and so there is a limitation there.

And the logic you're using is flawed to begi...

What all the next gen consoles need is sufficient storage capacity, it doesn't matter what the format is. From what I understand, WiiU is running a disc that holds 25G, and while that isn't exactly what I'd call "future-proof" at this point in time, it should be sufficient.

It's always cool to have a console do as many things as possible, but if it's keeping console production costs down (vs blu-ray), or keeping investors happy knowing that pira...

constructive criticism on the way:

Titles like "This is why _____ will be awesome" or "Why _____ is going to suck" scream out "Lazy blog from an excited fanboy and/or hater on the way!" It's like starting an essay with "There are many poems that reach us, but one in particular stood out to me... blah blah" It bores people before they properly get a chance to read and assess their feelings on the writing. It's too vague, and indi...

Not that I necessarily disagree with the point made in the article, but I agree (with you). I don't think a Playstation or Xbox site has the right to go around trying to write objective looking articles about how Nintendo's ______ sucks, and vice versa.

@Louis_Guzman
If you measure the success of a system by whether or not it was profitable, then sure. As a gamer, I measure success in how much use I get out of it. The N64 and Gamecube had horribly disappointing libraries aside from the 1st party software, while the competition offered gamers a huge array of titles to choose from. I was forced to finally buy a Playstation for lack of anything to play on my N64, and stayed with Sony the next generation, though I did eventually pick up ...

I think Riccitiello needs to stop holding back, and start telling us how he really feels.

"The CIA site is still down at the moment and I just can’t wait for the reaction to it. Perhaps lulzsec will be taken down by the US government or the alternate option (aka the way I want to see this go down): US government get angry and tries to take down lulzsec, lulzsec gets pissed off that the US can’t take a joke and decided to fuck with the status quo even more, resulting in more Lulz"

Nice, very mature of you.

Picked this up a few days ago, seems pretty solid so far. Definitely not worth the full price, but at half price it's definitely worth it. Supports in-game XMB custom soundtracks too.

Maybe the fact that it seems like the device was created to be cool primarily, and its practical uses for gaming are a total afterthought. Maybe the fact that we already learned that the body alone doesn't cut it 7 (or so) years ago with the EyeToy. Or the fact that despite not having proved useful at all, people continue to sing its praises, while it's sales do the same thing that Wii sales did for Nintendo; Give them the wrong idea about what gamers want, ensuring a future where nei...

Anyway, you're arguing that since hackers think out of the box and so do game developers, that they are similar enough that independent game developing can be considered hacking? Quite a stretch, but even taken as you present it, there is still a clear distinction between the two.

“No,” Tretton said, “there’s a real misnomer there, we embrace independent game development; if you call that hacking, then we embrace that.

When has independent game development with the given tools ever been considered hacking?
