What about games that existed well before it like Shadow of the Colossus? There were no map markers there, only visual reference points in the distance and the light of your sword to help guide you. This is why people like myself think BotW gets more credit than it deserves. Everyone wants to talk about how influential it is but these concepts were around long before Nintendo decided to slap a Zelda skin on them.
BotW is not as revolutionary as you think and that exact notion is why people get so up in arms about this topic, myself included. Many of the open world design elements that BotW is praised for existed in games that came out long before it and acting like BotW invented these elements is just being ignorant.
@SurgicalMenace Why continue to defend a company that does nothing but try to sell to it's fans based on nostalgia alone instead of putting out actual decent games. They know all they need to do is slap FF or another one of their old ips that people are nostalgic about onto a new title and it'll at least sell enough for them to profit. You don't need to be a game developer to have solid criticism about a company that wants nothing but to take your money. Why do you think they have...
First of all, it's actually being co-developed/co-directed by Team Ninja and SE and SE is also publishing it too so don't pretend like SE has no say. Also never said Team Ninja makes bad games at all. I've been a huge fan of Ninja Gaiden since the NES era and while I enjoyed Nioh, that game was a blatant souls ripoff and imo wasn't nearly as immersive or well designed as any of the souls games. The combat consisted of way too many "one shot" mechanics making it feel ...
You do realize that each weapon type in the souls games does have it's own unique moveset right? Not to mention 2h, dual wielding, using a shield or having a casting tool in the off hand for spells. Oh and also special weapons with unique weapon arts/movesets and in ER specifically being able to swap the weapon arts. Square Enix can barely put together a decent game to begin with let alone one with a combat system half as complex and rewarding as that of a FromSoft game.
How did you mod it for 21:9? Are you still able to play online without being banned?
BotW is a dumpster fire in terms of performance and it didn't stop anyone from giving that 10s
Exactly what Hermit said. MS's own anti-theft/malware detector would falsely think PSO2 was a malicious app and would break it. Then when you would reinstall it would take the entire game and all the files and instead of deleting them just move them into a folder that you had to jump through hoops to gain access to. And for a while nobody knew what was happening so our hard drives were just getting maxed out and we had no answers from MS or Sega. It was a debacle for sure.
The windows store issues were abysmal. Way better on steam now for sure but the game is still severely lacking content.
Not having custom lobbies does change things but I feel like it could be cool. Kinda adds a different layer of social interaction where you have to shop your wares to people so to speak. I think it could make for some interesting trading experiences.
tell that to crimson heads
I get that 2.5d assets are probably much cheaper to do than traditional 2d assets but it literally never looks good. It sucks so much style out of what could be an awesome retro stylized 2d game.
Twilight Princess
Link to the Past
Majora's Mask
OoT
Skyward Sword
Who cares? This game looks like absolute garbage anyways.
I know you probably feel like you got enough Dark Souls but don't miss the first one. It's hands down the best of the Dark Souls games in terms of lore and vibe even with the slower paced combat. Only downside to it is the online is kinda dead now. Still worth going through tho for sure.
Just got through it for the first time a few days ago and it was rough. Makes Blighttown look like a walk in the park lol.
Lol you can't use games that are years away for an argument about the Switch's current library that's like more than half your list that doesn't count at all. And if you're a Wii U owner like myself there is zero reason to buy a Switch considering most of the games worth playing ARE ports. Until they can match Xbox/ps4 in terms of graphic power and start delivering well done games in 4k I just see no reason to own a switch if you own a Wii U
I think the silent protagonist can definitely work. I mean look at the souls games. You don't say a word and those games have some of the best lore and world building of all time. I'd love to see a LoZ game with deep lore like a souls game but with the puzzles and dungeons like a traditional Zelda title.
Square Enix never had a golden age. In fact, Square Enix is responsible for ending Squaresoft's golden age.
