The controllers are bluetooth, which means wireless. You can only charge two controllers at any given time though.

I did the same thing. I grabbed the 20 GB.

Main Question: would people rather have a cheaper model available without BC or no cheaper model at all? I don't think this site should be trying to spin it as a "good thing," but I think it's accurate to say the 40GB model is a good deal--backwards compatibility or not.

never crucified for the backwards compatibility thing. You guys live in hyperbole. Yeah, some people were annoyed, but people don't even care anymore.

You guys act like companies can't ever change their business strategy. What was said in 2005, or by some PR exec 6 months ago has to be forever law. Whatever...

I try not to mention the RROD thing because the issue speaks for itself. It's almost immature to be a d*ck about it, but if microsoft can get away with a t...

having backwards compatibility on the 40GB model has been exhausted.

It will be a big one in Japan.

It will do well in the US too, but I think it will find its stride the most in Japan. The game has a very novel concept.

If Sony would have removed the wireless card and other features, but kept BC, there would have been complaints that PS3 is ruining next gen, and are more worried about their ps2. Complaints will come no matter what. My suggestion: if you do not like the PS3, you really shouldn't worry about its features or lack thereof.

Maybe they will just stop manufacturing the console with a power supply; instead, you will just use a hand crack. Then Sony can market the PS3 as a forearm and bicep developer. Sorta like Wii fit, but just shinier. I am just jesting, I am playstation fan myself.

A lot of Xbox fans say the PS3 is dead anyway, so I'm not sure why they even bother arguing about its features.

Sounds like we are on the same sheet of music (expression).

Sony didn't decide all on its own to discontinue backwards compatibility. If you read, you would realize that Sony issued thousands of surveys regarding the subject of backwards compatibility (and other features), and most PS3 users concluded that it was not an important feature of the PS3. Therefore, when it came to cut costs for the 40 GB model, they had to decide what features would be cut (for obvious fiscal reasons). In a nutshell, the cuts came from user feedback and sheer circumstance....

2. Lack of Killer Apps
"Now even though I’m writing this, I beg to differ. I still think graphically, titles like Heavenly Sword and even Lair are killer apps. These games however, didn’t move the units or set the world on fire like Halo 3 did. Most of the heavily anticipated PS3 games don’t come out until next year…after the holidays."

I still cannot understand why some people underestimate games like Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, and Haze. I am pretty sure (a...

note this: Split-Screen is only enabled if the host allowed it and if you’re in an unranked game. Once you join a server with enabled split-screen, grab your second SIXAXIS controller and press the "PS" button, and then "Start". Second player should join in the matter of seconds.

I don't really have a particular loyalty. Nonetheless, a lot of people make comments because they like to, not because they are pathetic and have no life. I have a life, but like to make comments now and then. Hence, the reason forums were invented: people like to do it.

You sell games for a living? Where at?

Yeah, you are right, customers will be confused, but no more than any other (non techy) customer is buying high-tech gear. You ever go to a store and watch novices buying high-tech gear? lol...they are all confused. Just go to circuit city and listen to the customers asking questions about High-Definition TVs.
High-tech gear is confusing, but if they want a PS3, they will sift through the jargon and buy a PS3. If they want an Xbox,...

The type of person who would be confused by this wouldn't care about every feature anyway (after all, every model plays PS3 games and movies). Tech savvy people know better, and those are the people who usually care about the minute details. If a mom of some kid goes to the store before christmas and buys her kid a PS3, the guy at the store can help her out, and not only that, she's probably going to just buy the cheapest PS3 model anyway.

Actually, the 20 GB is probably more expensive to manufacture than the 40 GB. The 20 GB has FULL Backwards Compatibility and 4 USB slots. The only thing the 40 GB has that the 20 doesn't is 20 gigs.

cheaper SKU, that's why. Also, some people aren't happy about the loss of BC, so what you said isn't really true. You're generalizing.

You're one smart cookie when it comes to gaming. Your foresight and logic seems sound.

I understand your issue with the new model, but if it concerns you that much, you do have the option to buy the more expensive model that contains the BC feature. There is a clear aim with this new model, and if that doesn't coincide with your wants, then there are other options for you, i.e. the 80gb or the 60gb.

You need to be realistic. Sony wants to compete (from a pricing standpoint) with the other consoles. The only way they could fiscally do that is by cutting some featu...
