Thanks linux. People's ipods and powerbooks used to bust all the time. I used to work for apple at a call center. People would call in all the time with dead electronics, but our failure rate was still well within the norms. Just the way it is. Sometimes your lucky and it dies within your warranty, and sometimes it does not.

You guys saying just head over the PS3 forums and check out all the complaints etc about YLOD. Think about that. Millions and millions of consoles out there. What is it now, 34 million consoles sold? Gotta remember if only 1 percent of the consoles are failing, that's still 340,000 consoles. Even half a percent would be 170,000 consoles. You could have thousands of people saying their console is broken and still be well within the industry norms. Just saying. Think about it.

Here's the thing. It seems mostly only "some" ps3 consoles are being affected. In other words, it is a rare occurrence. But another thing, is that the consoles that are being affected (and it seems to be more recently that this rare issue has surfaced) are LAUNCH consoles. I mean to the date, these consoles will be 4 years old in November. So . . . if a small percentage of launch consoles , mainly 20 and 60gb, that are bordering on 4 years old are starting to die out—mainly from har...

about swapping disk. People like bluray not just because they don't have to swap disks, but because they like the convenience of only having one disk for their game. They don't have to worry about losing or scratching more than one disk. To them, it's sleek and compact to have one CD for their game. It's 2008. Swapping disks is not difficult or time consuming (that's not the argument), but people like that bluray is a technological advancement, and the perks associated with it.

are people so overly critical these days. If you were really serious about buying and playing MGS4 just for the simple fact that you like Metal Gear, you wouldn't care about some of the more minute details.

Stop complaining to complain.

Any real metal gear fan is buying this game, regardless of install times. I don't even think about install times; I couldn't care less.

Get off your high horse and review the damn game. It's your job, infinitesimal exceptions or not. I don't like the Iraq war, and all the millions of political infractions imposed on soldiers, but I am in the military nonetheless, and I do my job. Stop complaining. You’re not as important as you think, and either are install times, or metal gear-quality cut scenes.

the whole "it's about time thing." If I'm remembering correctly, the PS3 has been outselling the xbox360 in total console sales for months. Granted, that is in regards to WORLDWIDE sales, but a console sale is a console sale just like one dollar is 4 quarters.

I'm going to Iraq in 6 months, but either way, too many people believe this console war to be a big deal. I don't really understand it, but it's a highly disputed topic--you'd think it was more important the way people talk about it. I know many people who are more adamant about their games than the world's conflicts--than their personal conflicts even.

is a great series, but it is definitely NOT the only big release to come out this year. You can't conveniently leave out games like MGS4, Killzone 2, LBP, Final Fantasy, and Resistance 2 when you talk about releases that could decide the war. My opinion is that to say GTA's release could decide the war is a stretch--a rather large one. I do, however, think it's going to be a good indicator of how many of the current PS3 console owners go out and buy the big games. I am undecided which consol...

The PS3 outsold the xbox in '07 with a (lackluster at first) good, but not spectacular software lineup. In '08, the PS3 has a spectacular software lineup, cheaper price, and big new features like home being added within months. Couple that with that fact that blu-ray is doing so well, I really don't see how Xbox 360 is going to take 2008. I'm just being honest.

Who cares about this petty stuff? You people act like whiny kids. A hard drive comes standard in all PS3s, so the Devs utilize it. Get over it. As if an installation is going to ruin your gaming experience and bring the world to a screeching halt . . . talk about sweating the small stuff.

Old playstation 1 and 2 units, discontinued PS3 Skus, and supposed broken promises made by Sony (as if other game companies never had any). But all that really matters is that the Playstation 3 console is reliable, advanced, and now has a host of good games--not to mention some even better games coming out soon.

Actually, since launch most sites have said the ps3 is quieter than the 360, but I'm not going to argue. It's probably not quieter than a standalone blu-ray player though but who cares.

what sites say about the PS3 and I'm confused. I have a launch PS3 and I've never heard the fan over the sound of the game; hell, I barely ever hear the thing. From what I hear, the PS3 has one main 120mm fan, and this site said that fans starting kicking on, as if they could hear one by one fans getting louder. I don't know about all that.

I also think the upscaling abilities are just fine. Oh well...

This console competes with the PS3 when it comes to media features, but not on a games level in regards to high definition. The reason I say this is because PS3 games are coded on high def discs, as where xbox games won't ever (at least it's very doubtful) be coded on HD-DVD disks because it would offset their already established user base.

So really this thing is just a wanna be PS3, that takes more of the role of a media center--exactly the thing people used to believe the PS...

Seeing all of these arrogant console owners arguing over a game that some of them aren't even going to buy. They are only here to boost about their console's minute visual achievements, or complain about some lazy dev named John from EA. Give me a break . . .

Stop arguing over stupid sh*t. If you don't have an Xbox, and you don't want an Xbox, who gives a hell what score one of their games receives. That's good that Mass Effect is getting positive reviews, but why are opposing console fans getting angry about it or making excuses? If you are a Playstation 3 fan, then realize you have two great games that have been recently released: Ratchet and (soon) Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. Xbox is allowed to have great games as well. I don't see why it reall...
