This helps them reduce the cost of the console. Reduce the shipping and the manufacturing costs means you can sell them cheaper.
These console races are won by those who can produce them the cheapest and move the most units -- based on elementary economics.

Frontlines: Fuel of War -- 50 player MP battles -- TODAY.
Huxley -- 120 player MP battles -- 2009.
Resistance is a cheap knock off of Gears of War -- it isnt even comparable. And, just chucking "big MP battles" into the MP isnt even relevant.
Want big Multiplayer? Get Frontlines, it is *very* good. Or, pay attention to the Huxley development, the MMOFPS ideas they have going is very compelling.
Oh, you're right. MS just doesnt have any more japanese-centric games in the pipe-line *at all*.
MS has the luxury of being first in World-wide sales with core-gamers; that means that Japanese-centric titles can still make a profit by selling elsewhere (because japan-only sales arent enough) -- but it **DOES** enable them to keep dropping the Japanese-centric titles in Japan.
That is a *very* big deal.

There is *zero* chance that the PS3 will remotely approach the PS2 in sales.
Why? Because (generally) the Market for Video Game Consoles is fixed.
There are X number of *total* houses/people that buy Consoles. Yes, each generation, this gets greater.
But, as of right now, the Wii is 35M, Xbox 360 25M and PS3 15M. That is 75M Total -- sold, this generation, right now.
So, last generation the PS2 sold 120, DreamCast 60M, GC 20M and ...
Yeah. How lame.
Who would want to have more campaign gameplay from the best selling, universally praised and heavily awarded Halo 3.

DLC new campaign and expansion material is great, it ends up being more gameplay for a discounted price -- DLC material like this is good value.
