It's partly (mostly?) because the government have refused to give game developers tax breaks in the UK.

Luckily they have decided to budget them in for next year, subject to approval, but I fear it will be much too late.

I'm excited to see if Kinect 2 can actually produce a decent 'core' game. I see the potential in Kinect but it has failed to supply that 'je ne sais quoi' that makes a good core experience, in my humble opinion anyway.
If they can get it working 1:1(ish) with intricate finger tracking and running at a much higher res, I'm in.
Well, thanks for keeping it classy /s
I keep reading the same thing over and over but nobody has really explained why. If you read the article and my previous comments correctly you'd see that we're not making an argument against competition at all. More trying to point out the merits of a standard in hardware which would shift the competition to publishers and developers.
The only real problem with that (as hicken pointed out below) is companies wo...
Yup, that's the mantra alright but why? You used your one bubble to make the statement, you could have at least explained why you believe that. If you want to PM me with an answer I'll happily post it here for you.
I can understand things like battling for features, price points and such but when it comes to games I don't think the developers would have put any less effort in had they only one choice of console to work on. In fact, some multi-plat games may even...
I've thought about this a lot and I agree with the writer. While competition can breed excellence it can also choke a market, fracture game development and cause confusion.
If we look back at previous generations, there's always been one console that dominated the market but we never had a lack of quality games or paid DLC or insane DRM.
The developers and publishers are where the competition should lie, they can battle among themselves to make their...
"The Cell Broadband Engine that powered the PS3 cost $400m to develop; the main SoC for the incoming console is likely to be a 3D stack incorporating thru-silicon-via technology and could be the first $1bn hardware design project."

You always seem to interpret my comments as veiled contempt, I guess it's my fault really, I run in a few 'thick skinned' circles and can appear to the more sensitive eye as brash and cold. Given that our previous conversation is all the reference I have of interacting with you, I don't think I was entirely wrong to have the assumption of a repeat performance.
You are of course welcome to share your opinion on any part of this site but I only ask that you res...
Damn, I was hoping to avoid answering you, not because I don't have a valid response, it's just I didn't want to get drawn into a pointless, overly analytical debate that may spiral into tautologous inanity.
The truth is I didn't include Gunstringer for the simple fact that I personally never saw it as a core game and thus, never had any expectations of it. Turns out it was an OK game but hardly stands as proof that Kinect can deliver a full 'core' e...
I see where you're coming from but...
"My over all point is that if you are a gamer that doesnt have any aversion to kinect it has delivered plenty of great experiences even some that could be classified as 'core'"
...IS an opinion just like it is my opinion that Kinect has failed to deliver me a game that I would consider has the depth of gameplay to justify a 'core' tag. To you it HAS delivered but to others, like me, it may n...
OK N4G is still not working for me (come on, what are you lot doing?) so I'll just reply to everyone here.
@Seekdev I agree that devs should be starting with a clean slate when dreaming up Kinect titles but it's looking as though the limitations of the hardware have created an environment where any depth of gameplay must be sacrificed to allow for the simplicity and inaccuracy of input.
@silent OK, er, thanks for that.

I don't see why it can't appeal to shooter fans, you can use the argument that it's better on "big screens with fantastic audio setups" for most kind of games.
I can understand the the writers wish for more Vita specific niche genre games but, like most of the gaming press, they've jumped the gun where Vita is concerned. Four months after release and it's nearly had as many expectations thrown at it as the PS3 did.
We all know p...
Wonderbook is, understandably, taking some flak from the core crowd. However it's hard not to notice the attention it's getting from mainstream media, this could be the PS3 game that finally cracks the casual market for Sony.
This entire argument:
1. I make a sarky comment on the internet
2. You tell me off
3. I agree that it wasn't ideal but it had a point
4. You re-iterate, continue to 'tell me off'
5. I agree again and go into more depth
6. Again you hammer away
We could do this all day/night but as you pointed out, this is my last bubble.
In all honesty your whole argument reeks of personal distaste, not just...
"...your defense as to why you might be getting disagrees and acting as if your approach is without its own criticism."
Again assuming my intentions was to defend my disagree ratio as if I somehow feel I shouldn't have been disagreed with is a leap I can understand you making on THIS site but not all of us are like that, certainly not myself. I pride myself on being open minded and I won't have people questioning this so condescendingly.

"It's kind of pathetic to hide behind this as to why you might be getting disagrees"
Civil you say? Anyway this was not an excuse, just an observation.
Yes my comment was sarky but you can't advocate inflicting your beliefs onto innocent school children then expect not to have a heated debate about it.
Since Silent clearly stated he was only interested in slapping his opinion on this page and not discussing it, mildly mockin...

I hate it when schools try to "force" all these things on you as facts, I mean I never wanted to learn math or how to read and write. They spoon fed us all this 'evidence' and forced us to think critically, with reason and logic. I wish I'd just stuck to the first fairy tale I heard as a kid, I hear i...
Let me just post a pic that is not only relevant here but also in the British/American AC:3 controversy articles...

I cannot stress enough the need for a revolution in the psyche of every human being and such revolution cannot be brought about by any external entity, be it religious, political, or social.
SQUASH THE TOFFS!
January 22nd 2013, book holidays off work now!
Wait, if I didn't have a PS3 and I couldn't buy the game on Vita how the diddly would I buy a game that I couldn't download?
Am I missing something?
