Hm. Well that's why I love the option for Jap voice/eng sub.
However I've found that in recent games, the voice acting has been pretty great. Though there are times, such as with Tales of Zesteria, where I'm going back and forth, trying to decide if I want that emotional impact through the voice, or, the ability to watch everything unfold without having to read.
So if the voice's annoy me in Nier: Automata, I'll just switch it up.
Could use some work (more things to do, less fetch quests) but the actual gameplay is fantastic. The dialogue, movement, so forth.
Tales is a nice, consistent, experience.

I don't understand why this matters? Isn't it up to the game to let you know how the character comes off as? Otherwise its moot? As in. It's shown/explained/hinted at strongly in the actual game.

As someone who loved the game, I agree with you on the criticism of its flaws. The story is what suffers the most, painfully, and impossible to ignore.
Although they plan to add in additional cutscenes, I just don't see them delivering the final product that many of us expected on release day. And I agree, I'm sort of past needing more "bro" time. I love the dynamic between them, but it seems very, cut-out-paste-in for the 3 "episodes" featuring...
Oh. Believe me. I noticed. I've spent more $ on RPGs in the ps4's life span so far than I did during the entire PS3 lifespan. Easily.
And I'm not complaining one bit *smiles* it's nice to get lost in all these worlds, both western style and Japanese influenced.
