How is Killzone not on this list? Campaign was a little odd in the story department but still very solid and showed great next-gen visuals. Multiplayer is right up there with any other shooter in quality.
I'm sure they'll never be usable. The whole reason for doing that is to improve yields. Some chips will have a bad sector disabled and still be put in a console. Can't exactly change that after launch without making a good portion of consoles crash during any game that uses it.
This may be the first time ever that IE is the best at anything.
Review hardware and launch lineup separately. Launch lineup is probably a 7/10. Hardware is 10/10.
That seems a bit low. At least for the initial period. Huge cost in tooling up to manufacture and ironing out the supply chains. But yeah I'd bet they're down to $300 by the end of next year.
Really makes you wonder what the hell MS and Nintendo are doing wrong. XBO is $100 more for no reason and comes in a big HTPC case with a giant ugly power brick (cheap design compared to the elegance of PS4). And I think the Wii U still loses money for Nintendo, despite it being ...
No. But that's what they should have done in 2010 to join the HD world. Wii U might have done decently if it had come out in time to get a load of 3rd party support. And technologically it easily could have come out then. Came out at an awkward time with no games and now the big consoles are releasing. Game over.
Exactly. It might have been fine if they hadn't released every single accessory as "Wii___".
If the Xbox and 360 are anything to go by they'll be done with meaningful exclusives in 2 years and just milk the cash cow of Halo. Meanwhile as with PS2/3 Sony first party continues to produce better and better first party exclusives until even after the next console launches.
And yet it still has an external power brick. Just shoddy compared to PS4's compact and elegant design.
Only problem is that no matter how powerful the portables get, the developers will still be making games for a lower common denominator of hardware. Same problem PC gaming faces with high end hardware going vastly underutilized. Meanwhile PS4/XBO will be pushed to absolute limits like PS3/360 have been. It's really quite amazing what they can pull out of hardware when developing to a certain specification.
Not to mention mobile games are just terrible in general.
Well they definitely failed to recognize that the Wii was an entirely gimmick based success. People got sick of it and moved on to PS3/360. There was no big fanbase or consumer goodwill earned with it. Sure there were the niche games the core fans loved and standard Mario/Zelda/Metroid. But everything else was kiddy shovelware. No big 3rd party multiplats or mainstream AAA games and the casuals lost interest. If anything the Wii probably left a bad taste in everyone's mouths.
I'm not even a big Nintendo fan and I bought one. I don't see the point in waiting on specific games to buy a system. You know the games are coming regardless. Might as well own one asap and get what it has to offer. Only concern is financial means and I doubt it's getting cheaper than the $300 bundle any time soon.
And BTW mine is collecting dust and I think it's a pretty terrible system. Just long term I know they'll be a few games here and there that m...
Well it's pretty obvious that neither system is going to be that spectacular until the next-gen designed games start hitting next year. Right now it's just cross-gen multiplats and a few decent exclusives. And I don't care because the games will come regardless. Might as well jump on the next gen bandwagon for a little bit of excitement.
What's more telling is the other games on that list. PS4 is far ahead overall.
Nintendo's actual core fanbase is probably in their late 20s-30s. I mean most kids today are moving to Call of Duty crap at 12 and leaving Nintendo in the dust. If anything Nintendo has failed to gain new long term fans by skewing so far towards hold your hand kiddy crap in games. They survive today on nostalgia for a bygone era where their games were actually challenging and cutting edge.
Dump Wii Sports and you've got a good list. That game is a gimmick demo disc. Halo:CE is my personal favorite launch title ever. That's pretty much all my Xbox ever played.
Didn't play Super Mario 64 until years later but I can understand that being the best launch title of all time. Still holds up today despite coming at the beginnings of the 3d era. Anything else from that era feels like a clunky mess.
Not going to with full console game downloads until the pricing is competitive. Digital downloads are always full MSRP long after you can buy a disc copy cheaper. Hell I've got 3 PS4 games coming that I paid a TOTAL of $110 for (Amazon 2 for 1 plus Newegg promo). Digital would be full $180+ tax and take up 1/4 of the HDD. And then can't ever resell or loan it of course.
Fully adopted Steam a long time ago because they made it significantly easier and cheaper to go dig...
Cool. I enjoyed the teardown video more though. Just awesome to see the elegant design in the guts.
Uh because he got to play it for 2 hours and made a video that will gain promotion for himself. Pretty clearly a mutually beneficial arrangement.
RPGs are still pretty popular. Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and The Witcher are huge series. Plenty of other good ones like Kingdoms of Amalur. JRPGs are aplenty on 3ds.
I think it has more to do with development time for RPGs. They just take longer that slapping a coat of paint on the latest CoD or NFL/NBA game.
