And other than myself, I've only ever met a single person who's ever owned a PS3 or plans to buy one (though all my friends have PS2s).
It's not just the price that's keeping people away from the PS3 here, it's also games selection and competition. Yeah, MS has the big hardware failure issue (which is really bad), but most people can't name a single title on PS3 they're looking forward too except for the big Sony established franchises like MGS and FF.
So why buy...
When I read the title of this story I got scared! A week or two (if true) ain't too bad.
Also, who wants the 360 to be more like the PS3 anyways? Each console has strengths and weaknesses. I'd rather each played to its own strengths (does anyone actually want a $600 dollar Wii with HD graphics????)

But I ain't got the dough to drop on a Vista-enabled DX10 system right now, so I'll settle for the 'sloppy seconds' version of the game ;-) . The game looks absolutely amazing on the 360 regardless though; when I got out of the water and saw the flames at the beginning of the demo, I hadn't realized that the cutscene had stopped playing the darned thing was so gorgeous!
Virtua Fighter 5 will be out before that.
But if you know anything about multi-core programming, then you know that developer tools are still in their infancy. It's difficult enough to use the 360s three identical cores, but the PS3 has different speeds between cores, so juggling processor allocation is tough. Furthermore adding more cores becomes an exponentially more difficult problem.
So, depending on what you do, it could be more challenging to juggle the processors. Also, porting from 360 to PS3 is tough because ...
I love my DS. I think Nintendo understands what people want from a handheld. I'd rather play Halo on a console anyways.
Not only is the story excessive in length, but the obtuse wordy-ness makes it very difficult to follow. I have no desire to read through it to figure out what in the hell it's about.

I believe that in hindsight, my question was rather rhetorical. Obviously the PS3 is a huge investment (trust me, I know from experience). From the perspective of a lot of gamers, they've plopped down the cash and they just want the thing to succeed. I don't blame them, the PS2 was 'teh awesome'. Xbox 360 aside, why are you putting up with this kind of stuff? You're paying a premium price for an inferior experience! Write letters to EA asking them why they couldn't get it up to 60 fps, but don't forget to write letters to Sony asking why they didn't help out with development support. Finally, stop calling EA lazy; they've got nothing against the PS3, but they're not going to spend more time and money developing a game for hardware with a smaller install base. So it does happen. When I traded in my 60GB PS3 at EB here in Ontario, Canada the guy behind the counter told me that I wasn't the first and wouldn't likely be the last. I don't hate Sony, I just don't think that there's any reason to own a PS3 (except maybe blu-ray) right now. By the time the system is worth owning, it'll probably be cheaper anyways, and I'll pick one up again!
First of all, you have to look at the #s of consoles available for sale. A console that sold 5 units that went up to 20 is a 300% increase. If a console sold 100 and went up by 40, it's only a 40% increase. Amazon numbers are meaningless, wait for NPDs.
But now we get Forza 2 and some other games. Actually, last Christmas we had a bundle that included G.R.A.W, XBL Arcade: Unplugged, Ridge Racer 6, and Gears of War.

@aaquib2: Get your facts straight before you comment, especially given that MS has said that all games will run with all systems. Go back to all the great PS3 news you've been getting (I'm not being sarcastic here, there's been good PS3 news) and stop trolling for flame wars.
We're still more expensive up here, but at least it's more reasonable. 1 CDN dollar is now 0.9470 US dollars. So a $350 console in the US is ~$367 CDN.

And I'm a graduate student so I live in an apartment, not a basement ;-) But I never said people SHOULD buy a 360. Just wanted to point out what the sales numbers are indicating, PS3 sales are soft right now. Maybe when the heavy-hitters come out they'll pick up, who knows?
