...I think you're missing something fundamental. Mass Effect 2 took less than two years to develop. Dragon Age: Origins took the better part of a decade. Rather than put as MUCH time and effort, better they put in as LITTLE effort.

I did plenty of research before buying my PS3. One year after launch, it had more to offer me than any other console. From then 'till now, my opinion of it has only increased--whereas my opinion of the Wii has remained constant (ambivalence: I ain't gonna buy it) and my opinion of my 360 has decreased (in spite of the fact I've NEVER had any hardware trouble).

I find the PS3 to be, hands down, imminently superior to the competition.

That said, the...

Seems to me SMT is the singly-most loved RPG franchise out there. People love it. People can't shut up about it. Every single game, it seems, is loved. The worst insults it gets are the occasional moronic "weaboo" charge levied at either of the more recent Personas, but even then, such inane insults fail to stick.

And, really, who can compete with SMT? In the past five years, we've seen more Shin Megami Tensei games than any other RPG franchise. More than Fi...

...simply because DAO was so lacking in so many areas. But I'm willing to chalk that up to difficulties with production while the game was in development--any game in production for 10-odd years is bound to have problems.

The main thing DA2 needs is variety, in every respect. More varied enemies. Let's not make the final boss a re-texture this time! Let's have a more varied narrative structure! Honestly, I hadn't seen a "collect 4 magic jewels to kill the...

There are a finite number of consumers, and with each new console purchase, the pool of possible consumers shrink. The more people who have bought an item, the less people there will be to buy it.

It's a common sense thing. But, I dunno, maybe Americans just don't get it. I can't see any other reason to justify this huge 3DTV marketing blitz to sell more TVs. Obviously, HDTVs will stop selling like hot cakes once a lot of people own them. It's common sense!

About time for the parade of inane arguments justifying the loss of backwards compatibility. Because less is more! It's very feng shui!

...That's your own fault. Of course the story won't advance if you spend all of your time doing OPTIONAL stuff. What did you expect? At the very least play to the point where Kaine joins the party. That's a pretty damn epic boss fight. And the boss fight at the end of part 1 is God-of-War-epic. Moreso, I'd say. And part 2... it's incredible.

tl;dr don't complain about the game's story if you haven't actually played through more than an hour of ...

Nier gets ridiculously epic. One of the best RPGs this gen, if you can forgive the shoddy jumping animation.

@pippoppow: Of course they don't. How many western developers do you see translating their games into Japanese as they develop? It'd be a foolish thing to do... because until a game is released, no one knows how well it will sell, and if your game sells poorly, you don't want to have already wasted money translating it.

Alchemist of Arland 1 is Atelier Rorona, right? Kind of confusing. Then again, the relation of all the atelier games has always escaped me.

Ah, well. Nothing like a good, light-hearted JRPG with a good combat system, good music, and quirky humor. Shame Rorona was delayed. At this rate, it'll be two years before we see Atelier Totori--hell, we may just see Final Fantasy Versus XIII and a Persona 5 before then.

Too glowy. Like the characters are light bulbs. I really wish they'd go for the hand-drawn cel-shading style of Budokai 3. On the PS3/360 hardware, that would look insane.

I mean, what would this be... Yakuza 5? It's about time for Kiryu to get a happy ending. I can't speak for 4, but in Yakuza 3 he's already in his forties and has been drawn into a gang war twice already... give him a happy ending already.

The fact that your character would change as you leveled up. I feel like Molyneux is in the same situation as George Lucas: he's surrounded by people who are completely unwilling to let him know when he has a stupid idea.

Customizing your character is a BIG part of RPGs. Molyneux is right in that respect. This idea of leveling up changing what your character looks like and what your equipment looks like, too, is a good idea. What's a BAD idea is making it all automati...

The merits of Trinity Universe aside, I'm going to have to call Gaming Union out for using "that" word. A translation is in order.

What was written: "However, as JRPGs begin to leave a less than pleasant taste in the mouth of gamers due to the lack of innovation..."

What was meant: "However, as JRPGs begin to leave a less than pleasant taste in the mouth of gamers to to the lack of being made in North America or Europe...." ...

W/ DQIX's customization and DQVIII's cel-shading. Would be fantastic. Of course, anything but the Wii would be good for me. Though I don't really like playing long RPGs on handhelds (I mean, doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose?) I'd rather deal with a small screen than have to gesticulate wildly to play.

A generic football game and a PSP port? Eh... okay.

Only must-buys on my list are Dragon Quest IX and Starcraft II. Maybe Dragon Quest VI, depending on when it's released... thought it was supposed to be this summer.

I kinda wish they'd stop mentioning JttW in the preview material though. I guess they're trying to make the game seem "hip" or "cool" by linking it to one of the four great Chinese classics, that I think we can safely say 99.999999% of their target audience has never even heard of, let alone read. I mean, it's not like their premise has much of anything to do with JttW's story at all--basically, they just used Monkey as "inspiration" for their stu...

...but I imagine it'll be text-heavy and I can't read Japanese....

Here's hoping the wait isn't so long as the one we're having for Ar Tonelico 3 and Atelier Rorona. (Though why in Gods name we get crap like Cross Edge, Agarest Senki and Trinity Universe so quickly I'll never know).

Gundam's not an anime. It's a franchise. Know the difference. Also: games don't ruin source material. That's not how it works.

It's not like the DS was ever a graphics powerhouse to begin with. Personally, I don't think the game looks bad at all. Sure, it's not DQIX--but what is?

But, damn, I have too many unfinished DS games. I can't even think about getting any more.

Don't really care about gundam versus gundam titles (used to love the versus series, too. Really don't care for the emphasis on supers its got now) but I'm crazy-excited for ACE:R.

I mean, VF-25s? The Arbalest? Bloody awesome.
