That's correct. The Vita is region-free.
And as far back as I can remember, the Vita's release date was ALWAYS Q4 2011 for Japan, and Q1-Q2 2012 for NA/EU.
Most of my enthusiasm for the game comes from Ace Combat 5. I've been progressively more dissapointed with each subsequent game--Zero was a little worse, Six was a lot worse, and the two portable games were AWFUL.
Well, at the very least it'll be fun to fly around cities. The level of detail in the environments is... astonishing. I hope they raised the flight ceiling a bit, too.

Namco-Bandai is notorious for milking DLC. Selling small bits of DLC for way too much, staggering releases to obscene degrees. While that may not be the case for Dark Souls, it certainly has been for other games. Just look at Tales of Vesperia, Ace Combat 6, Project Diva 2nd, or any Dynasty Warriors game.
Namco-Bandai IS, in fact, crazy about DLC.
The actual technology behind the 3D screen means it can't get much bigger, meaning when it comes to physical screen size, the 3DS is certain to always be smaller than both versions of the DSi.
Then there are the other flaws--the pitifully weak battery, the limitations of the 3D screen (both of which make it a weaker portable device than the NDS)... those aren't things that will just be forgotten.

I have a feeling you're probably right, what with there being several big PSP franchises aching for the Vita upgrade--from Gundam and Macross to Project Diva and Legend of Heroes--but the thing is, that hasn't really happened yet... and people were saying the exact same thing about the 3DS last year.

Er... it's probably best to save sentiments like that for games that can ONLY be played on the Vita. Like the 3DS, many of the "top tier" Vita titles are ports of older games from other platforms, or portable versions of home console games.
And I'm pretty sure everyone knows what the Vita is, and are more familiar with the term Vita than NGP.

I gave up on 'em waaaay, waaay back with the Gamecube. Tried to give 'em another chance back in April of this year, and now I don't think I'll ever spend a nickel on any of their products ever again.

On a more serious note, why is it that when westerners go about to writing fantasy, they feel the need to screw around with spelling in the lamest ways possible? Aemi instead of Amy, in this case.
Or how when Japanese writers make up fantasy names, they look to German for inspiration.
No augments? Sounds cool. Should lead to even MORE emphasis on stealth, which is always a good thing. Particularly since there are moments in Human Revolution when it feels like the developers forgot they were making a stealth combat game.
Other than that, I just hope it's lengthy and has some nice, large, open areas.
I remember at one point (after the "poor" receptions of XI and XII), Square Enix saying that they were going to change the direction of Final Fantasy. Instead of making a small number of big-budget games, they'd focus on making more, lower-budget games where they could take more risks, and get better returns on their investments.

How many Vampire games are there? The few I know of were all pretty good. Vampire the Masquerade, Castlevania, and those old PC adventure games were all great.
Oh, and I can't forget the Legacy of Kain series, can I? Easily one of the best franchises of the PS1/2 era.
As for this Bloodrayne game... seems pretty generic (and unpolished) to me.

When it comes to the biggest gaming franchises of all time, you're definitely on track. Mario and Zelda are definitely there, along with Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. I'm sure plenty of us would like to add a few more titles to the those four, but the simple truth of the matter is that Final Fantasy...

Honestly, I don't really see myself buying any more games for any nintendo platform ever again. Oh, I'm sure they have plenty of loyal consumers left--but I ain't one of 'em.

They don't recognize international copyright law. That's why they (very, very frequently) rip-off the intellectual property of other nations (mostly the United States, United Kingdom, Korea and Japan's). Tiny gripes aside, it's easily the best JRPG on the Playstation 3, unless you count Valkyria (which isn't ~really~ an RPG because the player takes on a role "outside" the game's cast).
I do wonder about the sprites. There are the default sprites which are beautifully illustrated for higher resolution displays... but...
I'm ~almost~ sold on it. Honestly, I'm just waiting for a Macross game to be announced. The PSP Macross titles were easily the best action/flight games of the last generation... really hoping to see that on the Vita.
Though I suppose I might settle for a half-assed Gundam title if it goes up to V.
"closest?" No, 999 ~is~ a visual novel. As are the phoenix wright games. As is Ghost Trick. As are the Professor Layton games. The DS has plenty of visual novels, some good, some awful.
Thing is, most visual novels made in Japan are made on the PC first, so there's not a lot on consoles. The stuff that does make it out of Japan tends to be eroge garbage or medicore lovesims, which causes a lot of people to dismiss the genre out of hand.
