Teh thing that will stop them is the lack of games.
Right now I'm playing Wii Sports more than anything. And that's true of 90% of the rest of Wii owners who aren't still working on Zelda.
....and from there, we're pretty much all waiting for Smash Bros. And that's about it. I loaned my Wii to a friend so he could play it- I basically don't have a use for it except for parties.
Halo 2 became the fastest-selling piece of media in history, and its success topping the charts on Xbox Live for YEARS after its release clearly proved it deserved its place.
...and Halo 2 was met with literally MILLIONS of whiners and complainers on the interwebs b***ing and whining about EVERY. TINY. ASPECT of the game.

Who the hell wants to collect 200 achievements that would only be worth ~5 points apiece? That sucks.
Gimme 20 points for finishing campain, and (bla). 40 is more than enough. And 50 is more than enough. 80? Insane.
There's one small diference, though...
-Halo came out of virtually nowhere, on a console no one expected to do well, and quickly rose to become one of the best-selling and most-respected franchises in history.
-The original Killzone was supposed to be a great, but the actual game sucked hardcore compared to expectation, and the whole thing went down as a massive example of overhyping a crap game trying to drive sales.

How many titles have tried to say: "Yeah, our demo at e3 '05 was totally unrealistic, set expectations too high, and wan't even running on anything remotely like PS3 h...
Rephrased: "Our game should look more like the best game ever, and less like budget-bin crap! Oh, if only we'd have thought of that sooner!"
I get the idea they're trying to convey, but c'mon. Every one knows the 3d MKs have just sucked. Oh wow,the new minigames for the next title include "Killer Krazy Killtacular Kblood Kbath Kmario Kart K64"? I can't wait!
Wow, selling more than a console that's basically not moving at all (by Sony fans' own views). Nice.
But 360 launched globally while original Xbox didn't launch in Japan OR europe in its first 13 months. Thus, a US-only comparison isn't remotely valid here. And yes, even if you don't believe Microsoft sold the full 10million, they got very close to it.
So Xbox 360 did actually destroy Xbox sales.

Gears of War looks better than any PS3 game, current or planned, that's actually been seen on REAL hardware and not just in the realm of Sony's "pretend" hardware that it keeps touting. (see: e3 '05 when Killzone was "real gameplay" running in "realtime")

Doing anything the 360 can do online? Not quite. There are the exclusive games like Halo 3, for starters. Then there's the truly unified online- if someone's online and playing Need for Speed, on 360 you can invite them to chat and tell them how to find me to link up for some fun in Gears. It's the little bits like this that continue to distinguish the systems.

Affordable dual format players will make the DVD war moot by Christmas. Beyond that, technologies like holographic discs, direct downloads, on-demand/direct cable and satellite, and totally new storage mediums hanging on the horizon are all promising to compete for slices of the pie in their own way.
Even if BluRay dominates this "war", the entire war will probably still be extinct in a year or two, if that.

The biggest factor is price-
Even if you want a PS3, you see a PS2 setting beside it for UNDER A THIRD of the price, and the PS2 has a library of games that make all other systems look pitiful.
It's a no-brainer.
Untrue. PS2's software attach rate and new game sales are still phenominal. Most gamers still play real games.
The real worry for Sony is that this may also turn PS3 into a BluRay copy kit, allowing the entire world to pirate BluRay movies in an instant. This is especially worrisome for the Asian markets, as there really ARE some territories there where pirated copies are (much) more prevalent than real ones.

Surprisingly rational post today, MART. But the Wii is continuing to dominate... for now. It's going to run severely dry on games and even dryer on third-party support this year though (rumor: only 70 games in development- period). Whether Wii can truly prove itself as more than a gimmicky system still remains to be seen in the larger console war.
But for now, Wii looks to outsell 360 by a wide margin. And DSLite... doesn't even make sense.
